Topic: My Adventures with Superman

https://next-episode.net/my-adventures-with-superman

https://static.next-episode.net/tv-shows-images/huge/my-adventures-with-superman.jpg

Follows Clark Kent as he builds his secret Superman identity and embraces his role as the hero of Metropolis - and perhaps the world. Lois, now growing into a star investigative journalist, takes aspiring photographer Jimmy Olsen under her wing. All the while, Clark and Lois are falling in love, sharing adventures, taking down bad guys, stumbling over secrets, and discovering what it means to be Superman and Lois Lane.

Cute show.

Not sure where they are going with it, but it was a fun start if you like this kind of genre.

They have slightly changed the origin story which isnt terrible and it seems they have made

Spoiler

Jimmy Olsen gay (spoiler tag because i think some people might consider this a spoiler)

and I am not sure why since it doesnt add to the story but since it doesnt detract, i dont care either way.

Some fun Easter eggs for DC fans.

Ill keep it for now.

much better than i was expecting. i was thinking it'd skew super young. really hope they don't play up the newskid legion though as they and all the jack kirby stuff in superman tend to be really painful.

Re: My Adventures with Superman

Been a huge Superman fan my whole life and have the comic collection to prove it.

I watched Smallville in it's entirety as well as Supergirl, and judging it next to the Lana gets kidnapped / ice cream on a couch tropes over those garbage shows... this is pleasantly surprising in the quality of writing department. Lois figuring out he was supes this early is a quality choice, and overall the ongoing plot, what's up with Waller, and I'm assuming the fat soldier is General Lane is interesting.

I think it's hilarious that Jimmy is the token Black and gay guy, because it's required to have both in a show and you couldn't knock it out better with him, from a comic perspective. For the record, I'm pro-LGBTQ and am anti-racist, I'm more commenting on the fact that Jimmy was always a kind of token character, as like some kind of proof Clark has friends or something, but is largely just a bumbling side character for supes to save. This makes him like.... extra token. I'm really sorry if that's not a PC observation or whatever, truly I want all races to be represented and everyone to feel represented, but, I can't help but notice we didn't go as far as making Lois black lol.

Okay anyways onto safer topics. The show is definitely anime without being overly so. Anime lends itself to some interesting action scenes, and let's face it, we've all come to see superman rock some shit. So far so good there imo. It's been cartoony, but has captured the budding romance between Lois and Clark pretty well so far, actually surprisingly well for something obviously geared more towards kids or young adults given the romance.

Complaints. I can't not hear Jack Quaid's voice, and get a mental image of him from The Boys. He does have a good superman/clark voice, but ultimately it's his voice and damn it's messing with me. I'm curious as to where they're going with the link of his powers to the fortress.... which is in Kansas, or appears to be for some reason. Idk looking forward to that reveal, but not a huge fan of supes powers implied as being given by the alien tech. Also. This is a weak, weak version of superman, with the damage he's taking.

You're selling media short if you disregard everything animated IMO. I'd recommend checking a few more out before you write things off entirely

Avatar: The Last Airbender: A Nickelodeon show that can be VERY childish at times. However, if you look past that, and see the story that's being told, and listen to the messages and wisdom that are being passed off in that show, it's a 10/10 show. One of my favorite quotes is from Uncle Iroh, who's an elderly wise man in the show. "If you look for the light you can often find it, but if you look for the dark that is all you will ever see." Seeing how he developed from a War Lord, to losing his kid and becoming the man he is today by being a father to his nephew is some deep, deep character development for a cartoon.

Gravity Falls: A Disney show that is super, super cartoony. The first season is definitely hard to get through cause it's very much so a kids show at that point with some adult references. However, season 2 really was something else, Bill is pure nightmare fuel and I can't believe they showed some of the things they did in a show targeted to kids. If you're into Rick and Morty, this is what Justin Roiland was doing just before Rick and Morty started.

Archer: Great show, especially the first 3-5 seasons, even I admit though that this show has been off the rails for easily 6 seasons now and only recently got back on them. I think the creator of the show was salty that ISIS stole his name (They were ISIS before ISIS existed lol).

Invincible: If you're into The Boys, or are into parody, or anti-hero comic book stuff, definitely worth a watch.

Solar Opposites: If you like Rick and Morty, this is another show that's... basically in the same art and style, also done by the same people.

South Park: Admittedly hit or miss especially lately. People do NOT give them enough credit for how on the nose the political and social commentary of South Park is or can be. The recent episodes where Randy sells weed in China with Mickey mouse was a commentary on the brutal regime of China, how American companies are censoring art and media to cater to the Chinese, and was a commentary on how stupid weed laws are. On top of that we get to see Winny the Pooh garroted, and Randy fucked a Pengalin.

I'll stop there. I love animated series sometimes because you can do things in animation that would be nearly impossible with live action, and you can do it far, far cheaper without endangering stunt doubles.

Re: My Adventures with Superman

Couldn't get into it... felt more like a Supergirl series with Superman than what I tuned in for... but that's okay.
I'm glad it's popular, just mean more opportunity for more DC animation which take chances.

No problem! If I can get you to watch Avatar, I think you'll have the same epiphany I did. I'm only 4 years younger than you are. I was really, really bored and had been recommended Avatar a few times, but was like "I'm in my 30s, I'm not watching a damn Nickelodeon show". Curiosity finally won in the end, and I was forced to question what else I may be missing.

My full list of animated shows.
Avatar
Adventure Time
American Dad
Archer
Bob's Burgers
Futurama
Gravity Falls
King of the Hill
Lucy, Daughter of the Devil
One Punch Man
Rick and Morty
Solar Opposites
South Park
The Tick (both live action series are awesome as well)
The Venture Bros

I also like the DC animated movies. DC live action has mostly whiffed it, but there are some amazing, truly amazing animated ones like Justice League : Dark and Apocalypse. Honestly a few of them have been so good that I really wonder why Marvel won't just expand to animated more often. I've been a comic book nerd since I was a kid though, so I doubt that'll go away... ever at this point.
