Topic: Barry

https://next-episode.net/barry

Barry centers on an ex-Marine who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest. Lonely and dissatisfied in his life he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting in a group of eager hopefuls within the L.A. theater scene.

1st 2 seasons were goddamn other-world brilliant. The bar is high.

Re: Barry

Huzzah! That's the best news I've had today. Barry is actually a lot better than you'd think.

Re: Barry

Barry is one of the best shows ever made.  Rumors of a season 3 release date still rumble through the internets.

This article has a production update about season 3 and 4.  Can't wait though, it's sorely missed.

Spoiler

That girl who climbs up the tree and then onto the roof, and their reaction in the car, was hilarious.  lol

Ya, this is a 9.5/10 or 9.75/10 maybe even a 10/10, I dunno, it's like Breaking Bad good, and it might be the best dramedy ever made.  The tone walks that fine line between drama and comedy so well I can't fault it.

Bill Hader always wins best actor at the Emmy's when a season comes out, so....

Fun fact for your acting friends, Bill Hader went to watch student actors to prep for the role, because he never did any student acting or theatre training and needed material to draw from, as he just did stand up and worked in production for years.

I assume everyone here is all caught up, and if you're not, do it, you won't regret it.

Well pointed out... and yes, I can hear Nelson from here tongue but tip of the hat Stephen Root (Fuches), I've been a fan for years and this is one of his best performances.

It's the sort of show that makes you realise how terrible and laborious so many shows are in comparison. Somehow I seem to end up watching episodes of this back-to-back with Ozark as that thing limps in towards the finish line. The difference between the two in terms of creativeness at this point is as stark as it is incongruous.

Ozark seems to be limping along with 15 minutes of actual plot milked and stretched out to a chore-like 62 minutes. Meanwhile, Barry is 25 minutes of bristling, absurd mentalness where everything is on point.

What went in to creating the motorcycle chase scene.

Hey Deke, thanks for that link, fantastic behind the scenes.  Bill Hader is such a great director and producer, I like the detail and mood he's going for in each scene, and how he talked about avoiding things would take him out of the fiction, like...

Spoiler

...focusing on time of day for the motorbike on top of Kleintop's Used Cars to be at twilight, which helps to set the mood and progression of time, and then to have the owner shoot the biker, all while Barry is still holding the bag of beignet's, hilarious.  lol  So fun!  Also, the unnerving feeling of having a motorbike speed between stopped traffic, and having experienced that myself, I could absolutely sense that was Bill's idea while watching that scene, as he tends to pull ideas from real life that nobody ever shows on screen.  (ie. Stefon on SNL, cop with glasses in Superbad, etc)  So well done.

107 was another great episode, they weave events together so well, and this one was so plot heavy for a 30 minute show it felt longer, such incredible editing and pacing, there was no wasted time.  Gene Cousineau and Sally Reed's stories are starting to feel somewhat tangent at this point, so I am wondering how they're going to reconnect some of those plot points.

This is pretty good, but watch season 3 first before you watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRmwuwK … Foundation

Nice, thanks for that, I'll watch it on my lunch break.

Going back to the bike chase scene, I've watched it countless times, one of the weirdest parts of it is near the end after the guy shoots the motorcyclst on the roof, you see the crowd part and there stands Barry and he walks off.
I've rewound it so many times but can't see the point where he comes out of the showroom and joins them.
I can only guess that the crowd was told to all stand so close that we can't see him come out of the building for those few seconds.
Really interesting scene, love it.

After season 2, the show was postponed due to covid, so Bill and Alec went ahead and wrote both season 3 and some of season 4, and season 4 was green lit back in March.

It's in this youtube video, which is pretty funny, enjoy wink https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWsMvAMoV6k

My favorite character in this show is that Chechen guy, a pure masterpiece

Re: Barry

I must be the odd man out, I just couldn't get into it. Yes, it had some hilarious moments but way too much boredom in between.
