Topic: Fear the Walking Dead
What did the world look like as it was transforming into the horrifying apocalypse depicted in "The Walking Dead"? This spin-off set in Los Angeles, following new characters as they face the beginning of the end of the world, will answer that question. Click here ---> Fear the Walking Dead
Only 23 days to go before we get to see this - who else is going to be watching this, and do you hope for focus on zombies and gore, or more focus on societal collapse and what happens when everything that keeps people under control is cut loose.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
I hope for better (cooler) characters with more backbone, more interaction with other groups, less emphasis on morale and more focus on the survival game. A more gritty and darker world would be more than welcome. And god please don't have damn kids and babies near the main cast.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
Agree - kids and babies (and any parents foolish enough to keep trying to protect them) should theoretically be among the first to die when this sort of thing goes down. What are the odds we'll see at least one Shopping Mall Community somewhere along the line? Any bets?

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
Yeah I just made a thread for the actual show, seeing as it's a show and not just a topic about The Walking Dead. It's a whole new show. I reported the thread anyway just in case I wasn't allowed to make a thread for this show.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
Thread is still here, must be okay to give the show its own thread. Let's carry on Anyway, really looking forward to this, hope it doesn't become one of those huge letdown moments. I expect this will have a fair bit of action and drama, and possibly not so much gore. Just hope it doesn't become too family-friendly - I'd like to see really difficult situations tackled and not have the worst parts of a breaking down world avoided because of the family appeal thing. I remember an old TV show back in the 70s called "Survivors", which I suppose is the true originator for showing on TV this sort of post-apoc world in the very early stages, and even back then, that show wasn't afraid to show pretty bad things happening, so we better not be limited now. It basically just dealt with the many small and tricky interactions you'd have when there is no longer any law, and people try to take it for themselves and so on. 22 days now, I'll bump this up after we've had the chance to see it for the first time and we can talk about it then.

Well if you've seen The Walking Dead you've got a good measure of how far they can go. I'll give this a shot even though I've dropped the original show. Maybe they'll do better this time with new story and new characters not based on the comics.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
Just got the season one plot breakdown in: Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark and English teacher Travis Manawa have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.
And info on first two episodes: 1x01 - Pilot A highly dysfunctional blended family is forced together when they realize a reported virus is actually the onset of the undead apocalypse. 1x02 - Close, Yet So Far While Madison struggles to keep Nick from crippling withdrawal, Travis ventures out to find his son before the city of Los Angeles falls. So definitely wrapping around a family and its struggles so far. I truly hope it goes way beyond that though, just placing a regular family drama into a zombie outbreak setting, and concentrating on just the one family and how they deal with Sally's first date, Tom's infidelity, or Chad's acting-out behaviours, with zombies meanwhile casually scratching at the doors, might get a bit silly. Oh well - I expect there'll at least be tons of action scenes. Also they have already ordered a second season. Here's the latest trailer: Latest "Fear the Walking Dead" Trailer on YouTube (sorry, not sure how to post a youtube video in a post in this forum).

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
Yeah looks like they're going to milk this one. Season 1 - first signs of an outbreak Season 2 - a few people get bitten Season 3 - more people get bitten Season 4 - people are sent to quarantine zones Season 5 - quarantine zones get overrun ... Season 20 - apocalypse begins!

Haha...yep the suits are all up on this one. Hopefully the writers rebel and at least attempt to give us some decent zombie vs people vs people chaos :3

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
While I'm really hopeful for this, I deep down think its going to be way too family drama focused. They will probably throw in some good gore in the first episode to sucker people in, then hanker down to 20 episodes of long drawn out drama, teen angst, you weren't there for my science project etc etc...I mean the two lead characters are school teachers/guidance counsellors ffs. The absolutely crazy thing is, they know that people want to see action/gore etc (look how well the last ship rated last season!, thats what people want to watch) but some suit will have decided drama is cheaper and the masses will watch it because its a walking dead spin off regardless.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
A few hours ago, AMC shared a video of the first three minutes of Fear the Walking Dead’s first episode on the show’s Facebook page, introducing us to Nick Clark, a dropout who is battling a drug problem (and apparently a zombie infestation).
The atmosphere is really spooky and well done, definitely go watch the video to get a feel for what they have planned for us with this show. Link here (watch video) ---> click Just a few more days and we can lay down our opinions on this show. From what I read the zombies are fresh and pretty much look like humans still...bearing that in mind, if nobody really knew what was going down at the time - remember many people might be thinking they were looking at sick people who just had rabies or something similar (like they were out of their minds temporarily, but still salvageable given the proper help)...so lads - would you be able to kill this...?
^PATIENT ZERO Apparently the girl above is "Patient Zero" for this entire outbreak, but looks like we're never going to get the backstory on this :'( ComicBook has revealed Lexi Johnson will play Patient Zero on the show. Johnson’s zombie (Gloria) has seen better days. She’s been stabbed and she’s lost her shoes. But that knife wound now looks like it happened post-zombification as her pristine white tank dress isn’t soaked through. Did Gloria escaped from a hospital? A secret government lab? Something even more sinister? We’ll never know. Despite her title of “Patient Zero,” Johnson’s zombie gets no backstory. “FtWD” showrunner Dave Erickson has said before there are no plans to solve the mystery of the zombie plague.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
Well - I sat through the first hour of this, pretty slow start to the show but it'll pick up. Not worried at this point, right now we're meeting the cast, who did a fine job. Nick the junkie son is a total mess, but possesses magical survival skills, this should keep him alive for a bit. He'll be fun to watch when he starts going through withdrawals, I expect they'll make a few episodes of him robbing chemists and whatnot in search of some gear. Looks like the daughter Alicia has already ▼Spoiler lost her bf to the outbreak, bet she's going to regret texting this - ^the irony is not lost on us
Meanwhile Mom and stepPop trundled around town dutifully ▼Spoiler protecting their son from taking any guilt from the two murders he seems to have participated in. Such loyalty! <3 This harmless looking piece of tinfoil just might be what started the zombiocalypse, Mom casually flicked it away not realising this might be the only clue as to what caused this whole mess (and possibly even a path to a cure). Now we'll never know :'( This is all on you, Madison. ^go on, try some
Also be aware fresh zombies are like tanks - they just keep on going. Won't be anywhere near as easy running a blade through their solid heads like it is in The Walking Dead.

Well we already knew Nick was a junkie, waking up to a slaughter. And the stuff on the tinfoil is just me making a joke, not actually part of the plot.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
Looks interesting, but... I haven't quite recovered from the demise of the Walking Dead itself; I quit somewhere in season 4. So unless it's very good, I won't even bother watching this.

▼Spoiler Nerd brings a pocket knife to school because he's afraid of an outbreak I'm rolling my eyes already and it's only been 15 minutes. OK, back to watching the pilot.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
This one is a slow burner, so far all they've done is introduce us to the characters, who all do their bit well. Let this build up, then see if it's got anything. For all we know it could be an epic explosion of awesome after the slow buildup.

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
The rest of the pilot wasn't that bad, but imo things are progressing too slow ▼Spoiler the infection rate, I mean... there must be hundreds of people dying in LA each day for various reasons (and death=turning) so you'd think that there were more zombie encounters and new infections

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
I haven't watched the episode yet, but I think that ▼Spoiler the virus wasn't distributed by air (with a plane for example), so that everyone dead would start being a zombie in the span of a day. People are probably just not infected. Yet.

Well, the pilot shows ▼Spoiler two unrelated people turning into zombies after they died so either it didn't spread airborne across the entire city or they're holding back on the zombie apocalypse. ;p I also don't buy the explanation about the Patient Zero since ▼Spoiler there are mentionings of "unrest" in other US states. So it's more likely there are quite a few Patient Zeroes. I'm still on board but I'll be looking closely at where the show goes and if it's held back intentionally to save budget. ;p

Well then maybe I'm wrong. I guess they didn't think that thing through (suprise).

Re: Fear the Walking Dead
They said they're never going to tell us anyway, so speculate away. 1) Accidentally or deliberately placed in the flu shots. 2) Deliberately placed in the drugs. 3) Somehow something infected a batch of needles, so that both 1) and 2) are inadvertently correct. 4) In your breakfast cereal. 5) In the water supply. Regardless, only some people get sick though whenever anything happens, while some are always immune.

But in the original show everyone is infected and they all turn after they die. So imo the only logical explanation is the airborne spread (maybe water supply infection if it was intentional)... question is how long it takes to cover the entire planet. But yeah, we won't find out since the show ain't about that. ;p
