Topic: Kings
Kings
Just finished watching the 2 hour premiere of the series Kings and I have to say I LOVED IT!! I think NBC has a hit on their hands if they manage to keep the great production values and good writing. The acting, the adaption, the editing everything was dead on. I vaguely remember the story of David from the Bible, but I like the way they adapted it to the present. I just hope it doesn't turn cheesy down the line. So far I have to say this is the BEST new show I've seen this year and I highly suggest everyone gives it a try. I don't want to give anything away, just watch it and tell me what you think.

Re: Kings
I just caught this and was completely blown away - it really is a rare event to see TV this good originate on American television. Not that there are no good television from the States; there is plenty good here. But lets face it, most of that is on cable; not network. Kings is on a whole other level that most American television rarely ever gets to. When I initially read the premise of the show, I thought that it was something from the BBC or ITV or even HBO or something. After all, what American network would even touch this subject manner, much less re-invent it in such a novel approach? Takes a lot of balls to even suggest an idea like this in Los Angeles. Takes a whole lot more balls, not to mention lots of blunt force instruments, to actually get it on the air. And as of right now, NBC has got to be the ballsiest network on American TV. King features a premise that you would only ever expect to see in the international markets or on paid TV, and features the production values of a high end mini-series . . . not to mention, one kick ass story that really draws you in and never lets go. If the two-hour pilot is anything to go by, this series is going to be - wait for it - legendary. "Must see TV," indeed.

Re: Kings
Well "unfettered one" truer words have never been spoken. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I'm very glad I caught this show. I've been seeing posters all around town, but since I watch all my shows online I never really knew what it was about, because I didn't see any commercials for it. Then by chance I saw some kind of ad on a website the day it was going on the air and checked a clip for the show... to make the story shorter, the clip had nothing to do with the premise of the story but it was so simple, yet so beautiful, subtle and powerful that I knew I had to watch (it was the part when he played the piano during the banquet and the princess walks in.) I hope I'm not over-hyping the show. Welcome back "Must see TV".

I liked it too. Hopefully they will not be to afraid to take liberties altering the story (but I guess the ending is going to be obvious) and that they are not too worried about the opinion of christians not liking what they see. Ian McShane is really cool and I have missed him ever since Al Swearengen threw fists and shouted "c**ks****r". I was surprised to see metacritic giving the show a score of 58, in my opinion it deserves a lot better.

And this is half the problem with entertainment today. We rely waaaay too much on so-called professionals to tell us what it is exactly, we are suppose to like or dislike. For those of you who remember me, you probably also remember that I am a big videogamer. For a while over the past year, gaming was becoming something that was really getting me down - which is ironic, considering that entertainment is supposed to have the opposite effect. I'll tell you what, the moment I stopped going to places like Metacritic (and all the other review sites that Metacritic aggregates is data from), stopped relying on the opinions of the "pros" to tell me what I should be playing, and started to rely on the tried and trusted tools of a good demo, a rental and word of mouth from people I can personally vouch for, gaming started getting a lot more fun as a hobby than it had been for a very long time. Today, I actually enjoy gaming more than I have in almost a decade. And it has nothing to do with games suddenly getting better. And everything to do with me deciding to trust my own judgment concerning the things I liked to do with my free time. Not trying to get on a soapbox and preach to anyone, and not trying to insinuate that any trusts Metacritic exclusively. Just saying that the recent explosion of so-called professionals all across the net over the last decade, who tell us all what we are supposedly supposed to like, is probably doing more damage to entertainment and the relationship between entertainers and their audience, than help. These so-called pros, are always telling me how some of the most fun games to play, suck. So it comes as little surprise to me, that the same "pros" are saying what they have about Kings. I think the more telling meta-data at Metacritic, is the disparity between the very low score aggregated from the "pro" reviews, and the much higher score aggregated from the user reviews. Like with a considerable number of aggregate scores on Metacritic, it increasingly points towards a "professional" review community who is out of touch with the people.

So, is this show really good than? Is it comparable to any other shows?

This is the type of show that is good and in a class by itself. Comparing to any other show doesn't do it justice. The closest description I read somewhere was that this show is a mix between the bible story of David and a Shakespearian drama. If you are not into any of those references I mentioned (like me) you will still enjoy it. I watch between 25 and 35 or more different shows (some canceled, some still airing, some good, some ok, some not that good but entertaining) and I have a hard time finding what to compare it with. In the end like unfettered one said, stop listening to the professional "critics" and try it. I'm glad I did.

Re: Kings
Just finished it, was expecting it to be better after reading in here how good it was - it seemed passable to me - good for when you have a week off and are injured and cannot move around - and you have already watched everything else. Other than that i would pass on it. Retelling of bible stories i have just discovered bores me to tears. Not that Kings was bad, more just plain uninteresting, bland, bland, bland. Nothing draws you in to it - it is not compelling in any way - for me. Although the Kings daughter was pretty damn hot, and her Mother. Better rewatching Deadwood if you want to see Ian McShane, it has some character and charm about it. Must See TV - not a chance. my prediction is Kings will not last the season, it should be lucky to get to episode 5.

I think that this might be one of those shows that you just want to see all at once... Perhaps I shouldn't have started to watch it until it is all finished..

Claudia was really fine! I haven't been able to find any information on who the actress is, but she sure looks a lot like Margarita Levieva.. the girl from Vanished and from the movie The Invisible..

Damn this show is great. I have removed so many shows from my watch list, and this is one of very few new shows to have been added lately

That's probably because it is her. I recognized her immediately Oh and Christopher Egan (David) was also in Vanished.

He was? I don't remember that... And by the way, I think that Margarita Levieva just moved, from being on my top ten, to my top two... or perhaps even one Damn, she is just unbelievably beautiful!

Re: Kings
Really good show so far I like the world they've created (especially that every woman in it is smoking hot) When I saw that it was based on the book of David I was worried that it would be all christiany but they used the cool god from the old testament. He'll give you stuff, but if you step out of line he'll bankrupt you and start killing your family. Low ratings so far... hopefully it lasts a whole season
