About the legendary lawman of the wild West, Bass Reeves, the first Black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River.

My worst complaint is that after the first 3 episodes I've had to stop and wait until episode 4 airs.  I don't like waiting.  Otherwise, I've enjoyed.

Awesome! Did not think I would like it, as I am not a big fan of the "Western" setting in general. But well produced, great acting with believable and likable (or respectively unlikable) characters, great story... what's not to like?

Just excellent. Very much to my surprise. Which is a good thing, as I hated most of highly appraised shows this year....

Yeah, it is very much likeable.  I don't like the trailer, it's stupid and doesn't represent the show at all (not one bit) but the show itself has substance and character.

Looks promising, I love westerns big_smile

Is this series "very losely based upon" his life is is it more "historically correct"?

I couldn't tell you as I have regarded it as fiction.

As far as I can tell, they tell the story quite close to what also other sources say about his life. Of course with a good bit of dramatization.

He arrested some 3000 "outlaws" so there should be plenty material big_smile

Re: Lawmen: Bass Reeves

'Hanging' Judge Parker is also a fascinating historical person as well. I visited the historical courthouse he served in, in Ft. Smith. I was a really small child and I recall being absolutely terrified when with a button press you hear a gruff voice call out 'Hang em boys!' (or something to that effect. been like 30yrs). then the nooses drop with the trap door.

Re: Lawmen: Bass Reeves

I watched the last episode last night. Although the series has been a little bit of a sleeper so far, at least it seemed to more or less track with the actual history of this real person. The final episode was about as historically accurate as Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer.
