Sadly, YouTube hides dislike counts these days, but WTF @ comments! Is that a campaign from hardcore fans (who don't want the series)? cool

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

You can get that counter back with the extension which uses Youtube api to query that counter. Fans want series, just are upset about certain aspects, this time ironically also Twitter joined in big_smile

Comments are the same text in different languages:
“Evil is not able to create anything new, it can only distort and destroy what has been invented or made by the forces of good” - J.R.R. Tolkien

Don't care at all about LOTR, but the gist is that this is one more butchered story big_smile

Amazon Prime Spends $465 million on First Season of Its 'Lord of the Rings' Series/ "The first season of Amazon's show will be the most expensive season of television ever produced"/ The combined budget for all three films [of the Peter Jackson trilogy] was $281 million.

Jackson saved money not hiring an editor tongue

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Minus inflation, so the movies were probably still more expensive than this but nontheless it's pretty high. But Amazon spend $250 million alone for the rights to the produce the show, so there is atleast one reason why it's so high.

smile Not bad...

Spoiler

...I just wish they gave the cast something like a drone to focus on, to avoid small mistakes like at 0:30 (people looking in different directions when a single object crosses the sky). But maybe I'm the only one noticing this. big_smile

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

So long as there's lembas bread at elevenses somewhere I'll be happy with this show.  "Tea? Or maybe something a bit stronger?  I've got a few bottles of the old winyard left.  1296.  Very good year.  Almost as old as I am.  It was laid down by my father.  What say we open one, eh?"

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I’ve read pretty much all of Tolkien’s books and am a big fan of the middle Earth mythology, but this trailer was absolutely awful.

I have read nothing, tell me more. smile

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I liked the first episode, it might help that it's been years since I read the books.

18

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I tried. My buddy said it was good so I kept going much longer than I wanted but I just couldn't cope with the hobbits and tapped out at the 29 minute mark.

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Amazing.  Watched the first two episodes twice.  I got all my maps out, to remember where everything is again.  I might need to re-read the Silmarillion as well, as this show deep dives into the lore.

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Watched 1x1. A promising start!

Okay, it doesn't seem to be a 10/10 show, but I don't understand the 27% 1/10 hate ratings. 27%!

divide  10 rating  by the obscene cost?

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I was captivated by it. Felt like it captured the feeling of the original LotR trilogy very well and doing its own thing even though it's got the very obvious female Frodo and Sam as crutches.
Overall I'm excited to watch more of this and love the fact that it could draw me into its world.
Having watched both this and House of the Dragon (more like "House of the Drag On", am I right? big_smile) I'm struggling to understand how this is at 6.5 while House of the Dragon's got an 8.9 rating on IMDb; albeit the latter has twice as many reviews, so maybe it's just a matter of time. My theory is that the GoT fans are far more mainstream and the franchise is more fresh in their minds, having been a slow burn over 8 years.

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Did more for me than House of the dragon too.
But tbh these two are not comparable...
The dwarves cool

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

eps 1: pretty twaddle. I was never a fan of the Lord of the Rings stuff proper but this leaves me dead cold.

Spoiler

"Go into the light Galadriel" clearly they get burnt up to a crisp a form of population control to get rid of people. She has the sense? to jump ship into the ocean and swim to where in fact? seems like certain death of a different kind to me.

This show ( so far ) is for the worshipers and true believers only. I will continue to watch it as nothing else and who know it may get better and stop pretending to be High Art with its old fashioned intense Lawrence Olivier stares you find in old 1940/50s melodramas films ( give me The Outpost any day)

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Premise is completely lost on you apparently, its completely different to what you know.
To enjoy you have to be open-minded sure...
Sense was not there imo, a feeling of purpose. As said in the show.
