This is good too, but doesn't add much after having watched the trailer:

Definitely tipping the eerie scale.  Just finished episode 1 and moving on to 2.

Watched 1x1. The first 60% or so - great! I liked the rest a bit less, but will continue watching for sure.

Love the retro computer/ user interface, I want to learn more about his work. smile

Watched 1x3. What a unique show!

Want to move into those sad-looking townhouses next to the cemetery? You can buy one here: https://www.realestatehudsonvalleyny.co … -gate-way/ cool

The office building is Bell Labs Holmdel Complex - what an interesting design when viewed from the air! The road to/ from the building alone shows you it was built in a different time (where land was cheap). smile

Re: Severance (2022) (Adam Scott, Chr. Walken, Patricia Arquette)

Finally had time for this, and what a great show!  wink  The mockery and satire of corporate slavery, is a point well taken with me, love it!  The episodes are so long, full hour, I saw Adam Scott and instinctively thought 22 minute sitcom, no sir, not in this, but everything is so well done and so well filmed, time flies while watching.  Casting John Turturro and Christopher Walken together in scenes has got to be the benchmark for making an odd idea perfectly odd.  I can see moments of Ben Stiller coming out of the actors all over the place, like taking pictures, mannerisms in speech, he's done a great job with this.  Intelligent show.

Looking forward to 105 this Friday.

@Lighton, the architecture, like Bell labs, and the late 1960's modernist look that I know well, is a character that really adds to the nihilistic annihilation of the self they're portraying in this, as everything is so compartmentalized in those buildings.  Thanks for the link. wink

Re: Severance (2022) (Adam Scott, Chr. Walken, Patricia Arquette)

Indeed, time flies while watching - while not that much happens. But it happens in a sophisticated way. cool

I finally found the time to watch Severance 1x4 yesterday, learning a bit more about Lumon - only to read this today:

Lumen, a leading American Internet provider to Russia, announced Tuesday that it was severing business relations in the country

Couldn't help but smile. Hopefully Putin will end the war he started soon.

Re: Severance (2022) (Adam Scott, Chr. Walken, Patricia Arquette)

This was a breath of fresh air! Love the setting, I somehow get a "counterpart" vibe from the show, which is a good thing. Cant wait to see how it unwraps.

Ya, great call, definite "Counterpart" vibe, it might be the science and conspiracy behind the founders of Lumen in Severance and founders of parallel universes in Counterpart that's creating that similar vibe.  Whatever it is, I'm super addicted to this show, it's so well done, and such a fresh premise.

108 was phenomenal television!  Wow.  This is so well done.  So well written.  Edge of my seat entertaining.  Amazing.

Re: Severance (2022) (Adam Scott, Chr. Walken, Patricia Arquette)

Wow, this show is just getting better and better. So good. Ep 8 was some massively inriguing squeaky-bum time. Damnit I want episode 9 right nowwwwwwwwwwww

Guessing now the "work" is all fake and its some huge Truman Show social experiment. Bit of Twin Peaks in it too?

One facet I dont get (or missed the explanation for); they lose their memories in the elevator ride but what about emotions? If they're suicidally frantic when they clock off and get in the elevator surely they'll still be suicidally frantic when they get out of the elevator? They'll just have forgotten why they're in such a state?

No, I presume those emotions just get shut off along with the memories, but their physical status remains similar, so if they're tired when they get to work, they are tired at work, they made fun of Mark in an episode for it.  But ya, total social experiment to see how the chip in the head works....

Spoiler

Mark and his wife working together, gosh, Mark thinks his wife is dead, so where has she been living and how has she been kept from him?  Is he what the test is all about, and is that why Selvig was checking in on him?  Can't wait to see how the innies will react as outties in 109!!!  That's going to be epic.

Emotions without memories are just physical sensations, no? So they'd not be "suicidally frantic", they'd just be "Work must have been really weird today, I feel sweaty and I have a high pulse. I'll enjoy a beer back home."

Yes! smile

Did you guys pay attention to the other Severance 'modes' (shortly before he used the switches) besides OVERTIME?

BEEHIVE
BRANCH TRANSFER
CLEAN SLATE
ELEPHANT
FREEZE FRAME
GLASGOW
GOLDFISH
LULLABY
OPEN HOUSE

We probably won't get more details, but I would love to know more! big_smile (CLEAN SLATE sounds like an innie reset)

Ya, I saw all those settings, totally nucking futs.  Not a subtle point they're making about company control.  108 was some of the best suspense you'll find on TV.

Those masks were like a nightmare, who would willingly want that?  So funny how he snuck out of there! lol  I like that Dillon wasn't caught, and how a good plan came together.  But were they allowed to pull off the plan?  Given the control by the board, did they know all along what they were up to and allow it?

Yes, funny. big_smile

And yeah, given that there are cameras everywhere, it's somewhat unlikely the board doesn't know about it... But who knows! Can't wait to learn more in the next episode! smile

Spoiler

Yup, Burt's outtie also mentioned feeling extremely tired and fulfilled during his retirement video. I was surprised to hear that he's been with the company for only seven years; don't recall hearing it mentioned prior to that. I had double-digits sitting there, ready to roll off the tongue as his outtie was speaking lol. I love watching Adam Scott physically trying to make his eyes kind. lol

I didn't start watching Severance until this past Monday. I decided to watch a couple of episodes a day, and time it perfectly to lead me into 109. I'll check that one out later today, but I have a funny feeling that after watching the finale, it will leave me with the sensation of wanting more as soon as the credits roll.

Regarding 107:

Spoiler

"The Music Dance Experience is officially canceled." lol

Waffle Party: hold my waffles

Re: Severance (2022) (Adam Scott, Chr. Walken, Patricia Arquette)

Don't know, I really want to like the show.... but it is just too slow for me. I get the whole concept and find it interesting. But nothing is really happening which keeps me engaged and the whole minimalism in the office (white rooms, long open floors, huge unused open space) and greyish outside world grinds me down... And yes, I see that it is part of the "game". But doesn't create an enjoyable evening entertainment for me.

Arrived at 01x05 and seriously wondering if I should keep going.

Absolutely. The finale was just gripping. The 40 minutes it took seemed like about 15.

Spoiler

Relieved main dude got to see the photo of his wife at the end. Is she kept in a Lumin dungeon overnights or something?

So many questions.

Why is Arquette still so maniacally murderously gung ho for the company that just fired her?

Once the 4 "reset" what will they remember?

Damnit I cannot wait another year for season 2, someone do something.
