Re: The Shield
True story:
I started watching season 2 today. I watched 2 episodes and the got sidetracked. I browsed the internet for a bit and came across this old TV-show called Wiseguy. It brought up alot of childhood memories and I started thinking of all the shows I used to watch as a kid (The Commish was one of them ) and I remembered this show which in finnish was called "Kovat Piipussa". I started wondering what the show was called in english, because I remembered it had some cool kung fu stuff in it. Google told me that the series was called Street Justice in english, starring Carl Weathers. I watched the opening theme on youtube and decided to get back to The Shield season 2 episode 3. And who was the guest star? None other than Carl Weathers of Street Justice fame!
Re: The Shield
BOOM.
Its weird when stuff like this happens, eh?
Re: The Shield
Finished season 6 too. Mind Blowing! Only 1 season to go and then I have to watch The Wire and see which is better.
You'd be surprised (it's actually The Wire, I thougt the shield was the greatest cop show ever when I saw it, then I watched the wire ).

Will get to The Wire after I finish Buffy/Angel
Re: The Shield
My internet connection went out for 3 days so I've had nothing else to watch than this. 3 episodes in season 3. Some thoughts:
1. Still don't like Julian's storyline, religious people make my head hurt.
2. They haven't build Ronnie's character enough. Doesn't have enough personality compared to Lem and Shane.
3. I like how some crimes don't get solved in 1 episode but they aren't full season storylines either. Adds a nice flow.
All in all a very nice show, not the best evah, but really good none the less. Usually I don't like cop shows as they tend to be too black and white (good guys vs bad guys). I don't think I'll be having any difficulties making through all the seasons before the end of the month. (As long as my internet connection is working )
Re: The Shield
So I just finished season 5...
Other notes from the series:
1. When ever they bring a new woman into the series Vic screws her. I know they try to build him as the alpha male but the booty he's been tapping is a bit over the top IMO.
2. After a few seasons the opening theme starts to get on my nerves and it's even too short to skip.
3. Julian is the most annoying character in the whole series and IMO the series would be better without him.
4. The procedural cases have started to bore me, I don't know if they've gotten more boring or the main action just picked up and thus makes the procedurals look more boring.
5. Season 4 and 5 had a big name actor come in on the series, I hope they manage to wrap things up without another Hollywood wash up.

1. Agreed
2. For me this was the opposite. The more I saw of the opening, the more I liked it.
3. Totally agree. The whole charecter is a bit boring.
But man, do I love that show!
Re: The Shield
I'm halfway through season 1 (thank you Netflix Denmark) and it's pretty fucking great. The acting is great and the writing is like a weird mix of realistic dramas (especially the cinematography and overall presentation) and hollywood cop thrillers (they can solve a case in 40 minutes). The Wire Lite is what I like to call it. I also enjoy the nice shades of gray. Like, Vic is a corrupted cop and a murderer, yes, but also he does a lot of good work and is not afraid to go all the way for a case. And the captain is trying to be all 'by-the-book', but he was okay with Vic going to town with a pedophile, not to mention trying to expose Vic just for his own personal gain.
Good show, good show.

It's only gonna get better. Enjoy the ride.
Re: The Shield
One of very few shows where each next eason is better then the prevoius one and the finale is mind blowing.

Agreed a great series that has some great story lines.
Re: The Shield
It was one of those long series that generally got better as it went along and had a decent (many say outstanding) finale.
Re: The Shield
Oh so I envy you Orlando
Re: The Shield
If you are smart enough to enjoy The Shield , I strongly recommend checking out Utopia UK TV show, simply brilliant.
Re: The Shield
Except for a few bumps here and there Shield just kept getting better and better IMO, so you're in for a REAL treat Orlando!

Re: The Shield
Tried Utopia, didn't care about it at all.
Try again. You wont be sorry.
It took me 3 attempts to get into The Wire , twice was wandering what the hype is about but finally third time got it.
There are shows you get exited about in a first minute of a pilot and those more then often disappoint on a way , Utopia takes very real global problem and shows a radical solution (I don't agree with) , cleverly written , excessively violent , one could say over the top in showing government/agency manipulation and surveillance but after Snowden not really. Makes you think in the end.
And where is Jessica Hyde is not an issue after all.
Re: The Shield
I understand, but Utopia is simply something I don't enjoy. We all have a critical darling, that everyone else loves, but for you it's "bleh".
I watched half of the first series of Utopia and I felt as if I was watching a pretty painting dry. I did not care about anything that happens, at all. Everyone of those people could've been shot in the head and my best reaction would be 'meh'.
As for Shield, I'm finishing season 3.
Re: The Shield
Heh, that character, like so many others on the show, will remain disturbing and fascinating for quite some time and in often unexpected ways.
