Topic: The Killing
The Killing
Lead homicide detective Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and ex-narc cop Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) investigate the death of Rosie Larsen in AMC's newest original series, The Killing, premiering with a two-hour episode on Sunday, April 3 at 9PM/ET Based on the successful Danish television series “Forbrydelsen” ,“The Killing” weaves together three distinct stories around a single murder, including the detectives assigned to the case and their suspects, the victim’s grieving family, and the local politicians connected to the case. As “The Killing” unfolds, it becomes clear that there are no accidents; everyone has a secret, and while the characters think they have moved on, their past still lingers.

The original is really great, so yes you really should watch that. But as i have understood it the american version is slightly different, its shorter (13 vs 20 eps) and they have also changed who the killer is. That can be a good thing, because then both of them can be equally entertaining on their own. If they just had copied it scene by scene, it would have been worse i think. Also there are another danish serie of 10 eps, "forbrydelsen II" which i also have seen and it was also good, maybe not quite as good as the first one but still good. And, they are making a third one, that will also be 10 eps afaik. *EDIT* Also as we know an american hour is about 42-44 minutes. Danish hours on the other hand is 60 minutes. So with my astonishing math skills that should make the remake even closer to half as long as the original, even if 13 is not the exact half of 20.

Man I love these forums! I didn't have anything new to watch this weekend, and now I've just downloaded Forbrydelsen. That's my weekend planned.

me too! with hardcoded english subs i have a really hard time understanding danish.. i wish they would articulate more, or maybe that's not it? but they have a tendency to sound like, idk, the village drunk in some irish movie or something. speaking of danish, have you seen a movie called blinkende lygter? dont know why i thought of it, but it's a good one, with mads mikkelsen (hm, mads mikkelsen - michael madsen, sounds similar) but anyhoo... yes. time for forbrydelsen
How close is Danish to Swedish? If they did articulate more would you be able to understand most of it? I haven't heard of that movie. I can't say I've watched much Danish cinema. But Mads Mikkelsen's brother is in Forbrydelsen. Maybe that's why you thought of it.

I have seen this a long time ago. Great movie - sometimes it really pays off using subs with foreign films

Re: The Killing
Yeah, if it was just a few seconds of ads then it wouldn't matter, but it looks like smn tried to upscale a XviD version to 720p. But don't worry, just a matter of hours for a proper.

Re: The Killing
Watched part one. Excellent TV, glad that they released two episodes at once. Now it will go either like Mad Men/Breaking Bad or Rubicon (ratings).

Re: The Killing
Sarah: Got anything in the school locker? Stephen: Yeah, books, notebooks, algebra books. I hate algebra. Sarah's son: Me too. Stephen: Yeah? So, like, check this. Uh, a biker goes... Blah, blah distance at 8 Miles per hour. And then the same fool, he bikes back at 10 Miles per hour. So what's the average round-trip rate? Sarah's son: I don't know. Stephen: And I don't give a shit.
I love him already.

Re: The Killing
I think I'm going to wait until I have all the episodes before I start watching it. That way I can just make a weekend of it and I don't have to wait to find out who the killer is. I also want to wait until I've finished Forbrydelsen. Good to know it's off to a good start though.

Re: The Killing
I never really understood the waiting for a whole season to watch it in one go. I find the watching week-by-week as an advantage, you can enjoy the show for a longer time and talk/think about it more. But that's just me.

Not just you But I tend to wait for cliffhanger episodes until I have all two (or three) available. Then I watch them in one go. IMHO alot of suspense is lost when you have to wait for a whole week for the conclusion of one scene/story.

Re: The Killing
I rarely watch entire series/season in one go! As Orlando says, I enjoy it a lot more and get to ponder my ass of inbetween episodes If I do see whole seasons, it's because I don't have anything else to do, or it is an old series with whole seasons finished. And btw, I rarely understand Danish although I'm Norwegian. Some I understand, but I had to watch I Kina Spiser de Hunder with subtitles. Didn't stand a chance without!
Not just the Spanish maine my love. The entire ocean. The entire world!
