Re: Previews
I'm only 10,5h into the audiobook. Still about 23,5h left and the show starts in a few days. Better pick up the pace.

Yeah, I still need a few hours of sleep. Not much good at work without them. but I will be going to Leeds this weekend and that gives me about 3,5h of flight time per direction.

Re: Previews
Toidol, how hard is the book to follow as an audio book? I read it in the dead-tree edition and I was lost the first few pages (too many characters introduced too quickly) until I found the appendix where GRRM listed all the noble houses with everyone who was connected to them. Then for the first half of the book every time he mentioned somebody by name or somebody entered the scene I flipped back and figured who they were and how they fit into the family hierarchies. I imagine since this isn't possible with an audio book one could get easily lost with all the characters coming and going and how they relate to each other. I have a friend who prefers audio books to reading and I recommended the book to him, but I told him I was worried he'd be lost two seconds in. So how bad is it really? Does whoever is reading the audio book do different voices or accents for the different characters? Does the audio book help you distinguish who is who and how they relate to each other somehow? Or am I the only one who was perusing the appendix heavily while reading?

I got lost almost immediately and am only now getting the hang of the main characters. This really shouldn't be listened to, but read with a massive appendix by you side. I've listened to audiobooks for a few years now, about an hour a day, and this is the first time I'm honestly a bit lost with a book. I wouldn't recommend this, at least not for the first time round. The second time I imagine it would be quite good, since you'd already know the characters. The reader is one man and he's a really good voice actor. One of the best readers I come across. He has different voices, accents and even speech impediments for different characters, and that helps quite a bit.

Re: Previews
marco and toidol. just to let you into a little spoiler. ▼Spoiler don't get attached to any characters too much. or go into them too much. quite a lot of them get killed off quite fast. i have read first 2 books and i remember it was a bit hard for me for the first time to remember the characters, but then i found out that's its easier for yourself to not remember them. there are actually not that many main characters (at least in the first 2 books) to remember.

Re: Previews
I downloaded the Game Begins trailers, made subtitles for it and I'm sending it to some friends who wanted it. Just my way of waiting for the series premiere.

Yeah, I hear you godzionu. ▼Spoiler The ending to the first book was a rude awakening for me. I heard that GRRM likes to kill of characters, but nothing could prepare me for the really mean way he likes to do it. I am actually about 1/4 of the way through the second book and still lovin' it.
