Topic: The Quest for the Best Quote
Changed the forum quote. I know that it is different because it's a book quote, but let's make it more unique. The show deserves it. And it's a really fine dialogue.
“Lord Petyr,” Ned called after him. “I . . . am grateful for your help. Perhaps I was wrong to distrust you.” Littlefinger fingered his small pointed beard. “You are slow to learn, Lord Eddard. Distrusting me was the wisest thing you’ve done since you climbed down off your horse.”

Re: The Quest for the Best Quote
Hmm - the dialog in the series is a bit shorter:
Lord Eddard: "Perhaps I was wrong to distrust you." Lord Petyr: "Distrusting me was the wisest thing you've done since you climbed off your horse.
and the one right before is much better IMHO. It goes like this:
Lord Petyr: "Is there someone in your service whom you trust completely?" Lord Eddard: "Yes!" Lord Petyr: "The wiser answer was 'no' my lord."
But my original quote was still way better IMHO and sets the expectations of the series just right: "What do you know about fear? Fear is for the winter when the snows fall a hundred feet deep. Fear is for the long night, when the white walkers move through the woods. When the sun hides for years, and children are born and live and die all in darkness. That is the time for fear my lord!" -- winter is coming --
Let's go for a hunt for the best quote in here

That's why I used the book quote. Looks different, but better. Martin is a dialogue genius, let's respect that.

That's why I say it should stay in the book and not on the forum index

top three badass Stannis quotes: 3) "It is not a question of wanting. The throne is mine, as Robert's heir. That is law. After me, it must pass to my daughter, unless Selyse should finally give me a son. I am king. Wants do not enter into it. I have a duty to my daughter. To the realm. Even to Robert. He loved me but little, I know, yet he was my brother. The Lannister woman gave him horns and made a motley fool of him. She may have murdered him as well, as she murdered Jon Arryn and Ned Stark. For such crimes there must be justice. Starting with Cersei and her abominations. But only starting. I mean to scour that court clean. As Robert should have done after the Trident." 2) "I stopped believing in gods the day I saw the Windproud break up across the bay. Any gods so monstrous as to drown my mother and father would never have my worship, I vowed. In King’s Landing, the High Septon would prattle at me of how all justice and goodness flowed from the Seven, but all I ever saw of either was made by men." 1) "Lord Seaworth is a man of humble birth, but he reminded me of my duty, when all I could think of was my rights. I had the cart before the horse, Davos said. I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne.”

Oh boy, thinking about Taena of Myr I remembered the most awkwardly "sexy" description in all the books. From A Feast for Crows:
▼Spoiler There was no pleasure in it, not for her. For Taena, yes…. The queen slid a finger into that Myrish swamp, then another, moving them in and out…. She wanted to see if it would be as easy with a woman as it had always been with Robert…, she thought, slipping a third finger into Myr. She gasped some words in a foreign tongue, then shuddered again and arched her back and screamed.

Amen to that, sibling! It's like Brans pony, who changed gender between two books, and we should be supportive of equine trans rights, as we are with humans. To quote The Killers: "Are we human, or are we Dancer?" They knew, and they approve.

Re: The Quest for the Best Quote
top three quotes by Eddison "Dolorous Edd" Tollett: 3. “There’s always a bear,” declared Dolorous Edd in his usual tone of gloomy resignation. “One killed my brother when I was young. Afterward it wore his teeth around its neck on a leather thong. And they were good teeth too, better than mine. I’ve had nothing but trouble with my teeth.” 2. "Once they figure a way to work a dead horse, we'll be next. Likely I'll be the first too. 'Edd,' they'll say, 'dying's no excuse for laying down no more, so get on up and take this spear, you've got first watch tonight.' Well, I shouldn't be so gloomy. Might be I'll die before they work it out." 1. "I never win anything," Dolorous Edd complained. "The gods always smiled on Watt, though. When the wildlings knocked him off the Bridge of Skulls, somehow he landed in a nice deep pool of water. How lucky was that, missing all those rocks?" "Was it a long fall?" Grenn wanted to know. "Did landing in the pool of water save his life?" "No," said Dolorous Edd. "He was dead already, from that axe in his head. Still, it was pretty lucky, missing the rocks."

Re: The Quest for the Best Quote
▼Spoiler Please tell me he somehow didnt die? My fav in got by far spoiler / theory
▼Spoiler He didn't die. Read the chapter about the Gravedigger on the Quiet Isle again Some clues: - The Elder Brother of the monastery, while speaking to Brienne, seems to know an awful lot about the mind and soul of Sandor Clegane. Perhaps too much for having only briefly spoken to him as he died. - The gravedigger at the monastery is a large man, bigger than Brienne. - The gravedigger, along with all the other novices, wears a scarf which covers his face. This would have made it impossible for Brienne to have seen the distinctive burns attributed to Sandor. - The gravedigger has a healing injury similar to the one that Sandor received at the Inn at the Crossroads. - Brienne notices the gravedigger bend down to pet a dog, which many readers believe is a hint left by GRRM. - The Elder Brother is very vague while speaking of the death of The Hound. It is possible that he is speaking metaphorically and that he believes the violent and angry version of Sandor has died and now the new Sandor lives on. This is supported by the fact that the Elder Brother mentions that he 'died' on the Trident when he used to be a warrior. In reality his 'death' only consisted of a major life change (as he believes Sandor has taken). - The presence of Sandor's black horse Stranger (now named Driftwood) on the Quiet Isle is another clue. It has been previously stated that only Sandor could lead or ride Stranger as the horse is exceptionally hard to handle. And honestly, can you imagine anything more awesome than him getting chosen as the Faiths champion in the upcoming trial? Against Ser Strong, undead people tend to not like fire. So Sandor need to use fire to kill his long time nemesis. This is just a theory though. We want to believe. anyways here's a complete analysis: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/to … -analysis/

Re: The Quest for the Best Quote
Spare me your empty little compliments, girl . . . and your ser’s. I am no knight. I spit on them and their vows. My brother is a knight.
He's an interesting character for sure. I think a general theme of asoiaf is about identity and what happens when we lose what we hold most dear. Sansa lost her admiration of the world of knights and queens and went from being a "little bird", to what she is now, a woman with at least some agency. Bran wanted nothing more than to be a knight and lost the use of his legs, which was difficult for him to come to terms with. Aemon lost his family and had to decide between doing his duty in the Nights Watch or going back to Kings Landing as a Targaryen. Jaime, the great swordsman who lived for his sisters love, lost his right hand and his Cersei too. It's a different Jaime that kills Neds guards, than gives Oathkeeper to Brienne. Etc. The Hound was almost completely defined by his hatred for Gregor and all that he stood for. When Beric Dondarrion rode on Neds orders to fetch Gregor to execute him, the Hound was furious; the Mountain was his to kill. So what happens to him when he is no longer surrounded by them phony knights? He flunked the hell out of that lousy Kings Landing and tried to find his own way in this world, which, sadly, seem to be strictly for the birds. Without Old Gregor, what is there to do? His struggle to find himself makes him depressed as hell, and in the end it's more like he's standing on the edge of a cliff, and there are children in danger for chrissake, and he must protect them from falling over the edge. edit: http://i.imgur.com/YLcZSdK.jpg
