Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
I quite enjoyed this episode. It's a shame it's been canceled.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies

Well , I don't blame them...
We see it most of the time , shows get picked up , off to a boring start , loose ratings and demo , rumored to get canceled, go on a break , return with great episode.
shows' creators and producers should skip all the parts before the break and make kickass episodes all the time.....
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
true. 1st season was very crappy when compared with season 2.

Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Loved how Greer follows his colonel. No hesitation at all, he step forward right away.
- TELFORD : I've got a good mind to try to take you all back by force.
- GREER : Good luck with that!
I like Greer so much. He's a real bad ass motherfucker. Jamil Walker Smith is doing a great job!
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Nobody cares about the theory that future and present self can't be at the same place at the same time... Or did I miss something?
Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves.

Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
As you say, that's a theory. Nothing is proven (yet, let's stay in sci-fi mood) so including that fact or not doesn't change anything for me. Who knows, maybe you actually can be at the same place and same time than your past/future self.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Loved that this episode had som old school SG humor, i have missed it so much.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
I didnt quite follow. Did Telford randomly use the stones to switch bodies with himself on earth so that when Telford died it was actually the Telford who made it back to earth who died.
And now Telford from the current time line is on earth in the wrong body?
I assume they will adress that in the next episode just felt a bit confusing with what they said in this episode.

Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
As much as I enjoyed this episode for me it proves why Stargate Universe falls short of being great sci-fi.
First is a pet peeve of mine: What I expect from great sci-fi (and even plain old good writing) is for smart characters to actually act intelligently. Roush is supposed to be a genius and I would expect him to take Young aside before Roush II comes aboard and say something along these lines:
"A different, yet physically identical version of me is about to board this ship. I will make a physical mark (cut, scrape, whatever) somewhere inconspicuous on my body, but I want you to be the only one who knows about it. That way if you are ever forced to tell us apart you will have a simple, reliable way to do so."
Luckily the episode didn't go for this particular doppelgaenger cliche, but it is a logical and smart precaution and I expected it (or something similar) to be implemented by the supposed geniuses on board ... I understand that from a screen-writing stand point there is no need for a scene like that because Roush II had that burn on his face and the script didn't deal with identification issues, but it would still make for a good scene making the world more complete and believable, the characters more real and bad-ass.
Second is the whole "two of somebody" idea and the need of the show to reset itself to more-or-less status quo. I am always amazed at the ability of "traveling" shows, i.e. shows depicting crews on ships who are stranded and trying to get somewhere (Stargate Universe, Star Trek: Voyager), which by the very nature of their premise are serialized and do not lend themselves to the "reset button at the end of each episode" paradigm, to do just that - reset themselves each and every episode. Stargate Universe was doing a pretty good job of being serialized and changing things from episode to episode, yet the way they killed off Talbert II and Roush II felt rushed and forced.
It made me think back very fondly on how this was solved by a proper sci-fi show - Farscape. With two Crichtons being integral parts of the stories for 11 episodes (episodes 6 to 17, i.e. half of season three!) and the death of one of them having a major impact on the overall story and the characters. Everybody else is just too damn eager to press the rest button ...
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
I was also annoyed that they had to kill off both doubles... it makes me feel like that the writers are cowards... but that can't be right, since what do they have to lose?

When they wrote this episode they didn't yet know they were cancelled. I would assume, if we're lucky, the word of the cancellation reached them as they were writing the second to last or last episode of this season. So maybe they had time to give us a satisfying finale ... maybe
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Okay, question! I didn't get that it was Telford II who died, or is it still questionable?
If he really died, shouldn't that mean that Telford I on the earth side of the stones also died? Or maybe there is an exception when dealing with two identical persons...
Also, I'm a little confused on the whole matter of Telford II being in our world. If I am not mistaken (which I most certainly can be), doesn't the SG-universe operate with parallell universes when dealing with time travel. So Telford II shouldn't be in our "universe". I am not really sure on this matter..I easily get confused. Glad I am rewatching the SG-1 series, being able to pick up bits and pieces I didn't really know I wondered about.
As for the predictable "reset" of the episode, I don't like that they had to get Rush II out of the way. It would've been way cooler for there to be two of them. Although, we really do not know if Rush II actually died.
Anywho, hope the series will get a satisfactory ending.. the cancellation really sucks.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Telford didn't use the stones to get back to earth. They tried the jump back to earth while recharging in a sun as planned, but Telford was the only one that made it back to earth.
There was a time jump caused by a solar flare while the connection to earth was established inside the sun. Traveling through a wormhole that passes through a sun has been known to affect the time lines in SG-1 and in Atlantis.
Now Vana, i think you got confused at the part after the accident with the solar flare occurred where Roush-I used the stones to find out how many people made it back to earth and switched with Telford-I, who saw just how much damage Destiny took. By the time Roush was in the shuttle to meet up with Destiny-II, the communication stones were no longer in use.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
I'm having trouble remembering the SG-universe's principles about time travel and/vs. parallell universes, that's where the confusion mainly lies
As for the stones, I see people mentioning here that it may have been Telford II who got killed in the body of Telford I. Which would mean that they both would've been killed, since we've previously experienced that death when using the stones inflict both parties. If this is true (that Telford II got killed by Rush), then that would mean that Telford I also should've died. But if I am not mistaken, we had word from Telford I after Telford II's death.
When that is said, there was a big insinuation that the whole thing was planned by Rush II all along just to be able to get spare parts. It may not have been planned all along, but at least improvised as he may have discovered the solar flare during the escape. Though, the loss of all but Telford II was probably a big error in the plan. That would explain why he looked kinda sad and with a very bad conscience, escpecially when questioned with what really happened.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Telford I didnt get a chance to use the stones yet, he was already on the 2nd Destiny by the time they contacted Telford II. So they hadnt switched yet.
To the Rush planned the alternate universe thing. I hadnt even thought of that but, i doubt Rush planned that, he would have known that there would have been 2 sets of the crew which would cause alot of problems.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Yeah, I thought about that. But he has a quick mind, so that after Telford went through he discovered the solar flare he may himself have caused the wormhole instability. Hell, for all we know, the crew that "died" may have been sent back in time themselves. He would've anticipated that everyone would have to go through once the ship (seemingly) was about to be destroyed!
It's just a theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually so.
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Okay, I've only just got round to watching this episode, and granted I was cooking at the same time so maybe I missed something, but I don't get why there is a Telford on Earth.
When they first tried to get back, only Telford made it, and then Rush went back in time. By doing that he stops Telford from going through the gate, so there should be no Telford back on Earth.
What did I miss?
Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
The reason why Roush couldn't have planned it is because the whole ship (Destiny I) went back in time, not the people travelling through the wormhole. Roush I never went through the Stargate yet he ended up back in time. That was, as far as anyone is concerned, a new occurrence that nobody predicted.
When they first tried to get back, only Telford made it, and then Rush went back in time. By doing that he stops Telford from going through the gate, so there should be no Telford back on Earth.
I think the whole crew and the ship of Destiny I went back in time the moment a Stargate-connection was established. So Telford I went to Earth from the past. Admittedly, your logic still holds though: if Roush I prevent Destiny II from ever dialing the Stargate in a sun, nobody went back in time and Telford I didn't go back to Earth.
But you are also applying logic to time travel, which is a big no-no. It's like thinking about why the newest Red Nose Day Doctor Who special works ... Just enjoy the ride and don't think about it too much.

Re: 2x12 - Twin Destinies
Is there a specific reason why some spell it dr. ROush? To my knowledge, it's just Rush.
No, we just didn't bother to look it up and I thought the writers wouldn't be so obvious as to spell a main character's name exactly like a word in the English language.
