Re: The Chicago Code
Not sure. Yet another cop show. How many is that now currently on TV? Might have some promise, but not as good as Southland or Dark Blue (before it was cancelled) EDIT: Also what are they going to do one this bad guy has gone? He was said to be the most powerful man after the mayor. Are they going for the second most powerful.?

You can't say that after just 1 episode . Edit : Maybe the mayor is not corrupt .

Re: The Chicago Code
I like it as well. While I am unsure about Shawn Ryan - The Shield was phenomenal and he worked on Angel (but only as a producer), but Lie to Me once he took over as show runner in the second season was uneven and I never watched The Unit - it seems that the dynamic duo of him and Tim Minear (whom I am very sure of since he was writer on The X-Files, Angel, Firefly, Wonderfalls, The Inside, Drive, and Dollhouse) have a knack for producing good TV. Before this they wrote / produced Terriers and even though - as most of Minear's stuff - it was cancelled too early, it was still among the best new TV shows this season. So I am very excited for The Chicago Code and if they curb the voice overs it might be great.

The two main characters (Wysocki, Colvin) are just too annoying. Bye-bye.

Re: The Chicago Code
First episode was great, but the second was very boring. I almost thought I was too generous with my appraisal of this show's future. Luckily episode three saved it again - it was great. Hopefully the second episode was just the exception that confirms the rule.

Great interaction between Jannick and the Super, long may the Code continue.

Re: The Chicago Code
Luckily after the hiccup of the second episode the following two were excellent, so my hope in this series is restored. I still dislike the voice-overs though. A voice-over done by a narrator or a character is fine, even though most times it tells me that the writers weren't capable enough to express what they wanted through (realistic) dialog and scenography. The problem is that The Chicago Code uses multiple characters for the voice-overs, making them jarring every time. The audience is not expecting the narrator to be always someone different and it destroys the universality of narration (i.e. the same point of view for the narrator, since it's usually just one person). I would even argue that during narration most characters lose their own voice and speak "their" words but in a neutered, clean narrative style common to all of them, thus negating the reason to be narrated in the character's voice in the first place. What I did like was the use of narration in the closing moments of the pilot, where the young driver's narration was cut short by him being killed. That was very meta, breaking-the-4th-wall-line, but it remains the only saving grace of the narration so far. Also the end of the fourth episode had a The Wire-like vibe to it. The Chicago Code is of course nowhere near that pinnacle of excellence, but it is nice to be reminded of The Wire once in a while

Re: The Chicago Code
The multiple voice overs still creep me out. But at least Gibbons is a really interesting bad guy so I hope it gets a second season too.
