Topic: 1x12 - Free
very good episode. glad to see Alex free and hot. but then again i feel that the Birkoff situation was solved very weakly. Maggie Q was sexy as usual, so 8/10.

good episode, still surprised she became an agent during season 1 you'd figure that be something that happens at the end of season 1.

Re: 1x12 - Free
What's the deal with Nikita trying to convince Alex at the end of the episode to quit? The whole point of re-routing Alex's signal is to mess with her whereabouts WITHOUT Division knowing about it. What's stopping Birkoff and others from breaking Nikita's encryption if Alex would run away? And of course from activating the kill switch?

It's not possible. The octave can't go higher than 255. An ipv4-address consists of 32 bits (4x8 bits). 255 in binary is 11111111. 255.255.255.255 is the highest theoretical ipv4-address possible.

I personally don't mind fiction in shows set in modern day, but if you call something exactly like in real life (in this case an IP address) then you should do proper research.

Re: 1x12 - Free
Displaying IP numbers in tv-shows or movies is always problematic. For telephone numbers you have the convenient 555 solution. But if you have to use a a IP address you can either use a private network like 10.0.0.0/8 or 192.168.0.0/16, but that would be rubbish if you want to communicate with an WAN server, so you have to do a mix of rubbish and nonsense, like 192.443... Every semi-geek recognizes these numbers: 192 - "hey that the IP I got at home on my laptop" 443 - "hey that's the number I use in the internet if I want it encrypted" -> "This guy is sooo cool and knows his stuff"

Oh... they use port 443... I totally misunderstood you in the beginning. I thought that you meant that they somehow encrypted IP-addresses, and the encryption could come out to look like 443. That's why it didn't make any sense to me... but now I'm with you
