I think I saw the guy who cut his own arm off on Oprah quite a few years ago. Nevertheless, i think he did faint a number of times whilst doing the cutting iirc.

Lets see what the writers intend with this. Yes a normal person faints when cutting own his limb but theres fucking zombies in this movie. Ive seen people lose limbs(not arms/leg but still) even break bones without fainting so basically I'm quite sure it's possible to be able to stay awake. I would probably faint by the idea of sawing off my hand but still.

like i said. no matter how tough guy/girl you are, you will faint. once you hit the nerves the pain will be just intolerable. plus when starting to cut thru bone your whole skeleton will amplify the sound of cutting the bone. trust me. i know it. i have once had quite a bad accident with my leg and when it was healing doctors messed up something. anyway i don't want to talk about it any more.

Overall it was a very good episode. It's good to see they're not focusing only on delivering zombie headshot action. wink

I saw an in depth interview with the guy that was caught in the canyon. He didn't "just" cut is arm off. After 3 days, he realized what he had to do but only had a blunt pocket knife. So first he had to sharpen the knife on the rock. He then had to break both the bones in his arm so he wouldn't have to cut through them with his crappy little knife. Then he cut through his arm where the bones were broken. I believe it was quite a long hike back to his car after that.

Humans are capable of insane things when really pushed if they have the will to survive.

In this situation however you have to laugh at the stupid redneck. While he probably couldn't cut through the handcuffs, why would you cut off your hand when the handcuffs were only attached to a slim rod of rusty looking metal...ROFL. Just carry the damn handcuff around your wrist till you can get it off at a later time!

agree with Godzi on the last one but I just can´t seem to figure out why you would cut of your whole hand. I´m pretty sure the thumb is enough to slide the handcuffs off or your pinky and a bit on that side. look at all comics everyone has 4 fingers and manages with that. smile

well the zombies could have got him, bite his hand off, he ran a few meters or so and then they catched up. I mean where could he have gone? no way out there except through the door. And even if he cut off his hand, still the same problem. There is only ONE exit from the roof. And this was cramped by zombies.....

Oh man - what a pointless discussion here. The cutting hand thingy is pretty much stupid indeed - in this case, cause he had enough time because the door was chain locked.
And for the drama of the scene - just not convincing because he is an underdeveloped unlikable character. Nobody cares if he cuts his hand, leg or just kills himself. It was too soon.

A cool dramatic scene with hand cuffs and a saw would be the Mad Max ending done in 1979 wink

Regarding TWD 1x03 - I have nothing to add to Rob's first post tongue
