Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand
It's very sad... I actually just watched it two weeks ago (the entire first season) and I was impressed - it's too bad for us but I wish him all the best.

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand
And don't forget the second season is a prequel - so changing the character wouldn't be noticed that much. But it's sad nonetheless

But it's not the second season of Spartacus: Blood & Sand. It's a stand alone show.

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand
Indeed , As I understood , second season should have started now (September) and Gods of The Arena is scheduled for January , no?

Well, if it wasn't for the cancer, there wouldn't be a prequel.

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand
OK - my bad:
The Futon Critic wrote:renewed through the 2010-11 season (the show's second of 13 episodes) on 12/21/09; six-episode prequel ordered on 5/11/10 While Whitfield's exit places season two, originally targeted for September 2011, in limbo, the show's six-episode prequel "Gods of the Arena" is still on track for a January premiere. "Right now, we just want to extend our concern and support to Andy and his family," said Starz's Carmi Zlotnik in the network's portion of the statement. "We will address our programming plans at some later date."

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand
It's official: 'Spartacus' moving forward with recast That this was inevitable doesn’t make it any less sad: Starz has officially started looking for an actor to replace Andy Whitfield on Spartacus. According to the just-released casting notice, producers are searching for a Caucasian male in his mid to late 30s to play the “smart, intense, passionate” title role. Interested parties must have an authentic British accent and be prepared to sign a three-year contract. Whitfield was forced to bow out of the show’s second season after doctors advised him to resume “aggressive treatment” for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Last week, exec producer Steven S. DeKnight told me that the production would either “close up shop or recast.” It looks like they’re moving forward with the latter. My two cents: No one can replace Andy Whitfield. But the person who probably comes closest is Grant Bowler.

So that means they will act like nothing ever happend to spartacus even though he has a new look? Not trying to smooth it in atleast?

well this has happened in the 90's in quite a few series. probably they will just notify why the change was made and that's all.
