Re: Matt Smith is already leaving Dr. Who?

I dont like him either.
But I think it has just as much to do with the writing as with the actor.
(Yes last few episodes where good), but come on, its a big loss from season 1-4.

Maybe things get better, we will see

Re: Matt Smith is already leaving Dr. Who?

Wow, I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but ... wow. Really? Even if you didn't think season 5 was all that great, you cannot be serious when saying it was worse?!? Farting aliens, Love and Monsters, Daleks in Manhattan, ... Those were some seriously bad elements or episodes and nothing in season 5 was ever that bad. If nothing else the worst episodes of season 5 were about where the mediocre ones from past seasons were. You might be fooled by your pink glasses of nostalgia ...

Re: Matt Smith is already leaving Dr. Who?

Good riddance! Matt Smith royally sucks as The Doctor and the whole 5th season is barely watchable.

^ Camel Toe tongue

TBH i thought he was the best Doctor who. All the the doctors were boring in comparison this one was way more comedic and he suits the role alot better that the previous guys, who were playing the role alot more serously trying to make Doctor who seem more intense when in the reality he was fighting a Large dustbin screaming EXTERMINATE!

(I watch it for the fun/comedic moments rather than the serious parts)

Re: Matt Smith is already leaving Dr. Who?

While he isn't my favourite Doctor by a long shot, he did grow on me. I have to say the writing as a whole for the last series was sub-par and didn't help him at all.

Re: Matt Smith is already leaving Dr. Who?

can they kill the doctor again? dosen`t he have zero "lives" left or?

Unfortunately - and yes, I mean unfortunately - they didn't. And they addressed it. In the worst possible way. On The Sarah Jane Adventures:

http://blastr.com/2010/10/its-official-doctor-who-i.php

Through a throw-away line during Matt Smith's guest starring stint, they basically said, without explanation, that there is no limit for the Doctor's regenerations and he's, for all intents and purposes, immortal.

I love it! I mean, we already know that they would have to get around this problem in some way... why not just ignore it? If they would make a serious deal about it, and create some super duper situation which unlimits the doctors regenerations, we would still find it ridiculous and a "terrible excuse".
I think that this is the best way they could have done it big_smile

Re: Matt Smith is already leaving Dr. Who?

I too didn't like Matt Smith and I think the BBC are idiots for just glossing over the set limit.
I thought they already passed it with Matt anyway, isn't he number 13.  But according to Wikipedia he is number 11.

Yes, we would. My problem doesn't really lie with how they did it, more with what that implies. You see, if they actually put some thought into it, no matter how far-fetched and cliche it would have been, it would be an explanation. Not just that, they probably would have only extended his life by, and this is key, a specific amount. Say, just resetting the counter and giving the Doctor another 13 regenerations would have been fine. Yes, it would again just postpone the problem, but 11 regenerations lasted them 40 years so I wouldn't have a problem with that.

The real issue here is very well summarized in this article. If you're too lazy to read that short and well-written article, it makes a point that the Doctor is now basically immortal. Yes, he can "die," but it will take a very special set of circumstances for him not to be able to regenerate (about as far-fetched as whatever reason the writers would find to extend the regeneration limit, had they actually bothered). A character that is immortal has no fear of repercussions and all his heroism ceases to be heroic. Like my mum used to say, a hero isn't somebody who has no fear, it is whoever is afraid yet goes on in spite of the fear. They basically destroyed all of the Doctor's urgency and purpose. (Yes, I am one of the people who believe that death gives our lives purpose - not the act of dying itself, but the fear of dying and the limit on our time here is what forces us to do something meaningful with our lives.)

The Article I Linked Above wrote:

The Doctor had his ending elegantly hard-wired into his very biology—at some point, he would run out of Get Out of Death Free cards and be forced to stare down his own mortality and decide, ultimately, what he'd choose to spend his last life on.  [..] a hero doesn't become a legend unless he's given his life for something greater than he is.

Re: Matt Smith is already leaving Dr. Who?

I see your point, but he still always have friends a loved ones who is not immortal, so he will always have fear of them to die.

Yet again Marco shows that he is the person in the world it is hardest to agree with. Pure nonsense. Rather comedic actually. That he keeps going that is
