Actually, I'm waiting for the evening to watch it (my policy for Fringe & True Blood - only evening when it's dark). But just to know that TB is back on track makes me giggle.

True Blood (2001)was written 4 years before Twilight (2005)...incase you are wondering Vampire Diaries was published in 1991.
If you ask me (just from watching the movies/tv shows I havent read any of them) Twilght is more of a ripoff or Vamp Diaries.

i have to say that i personally have always credited a lot of this to white wolf, the publishers of the RPG Vampire the Masquerade, which was first released in 1991. i have no real basis for saying this besides my opinion, but as far as i know, vampire the masquerade was the first "universe" where the whole vampire vs werewolf thing was explored in depth and put into a system of sorts.... since then both trublood, vamp diaries, twilight and im sure others have used a similar "system" (or a variant thereof) when it comes to the whole vamp/werewolf/other supernatural thing
(btw my avatar is from the show kindred_the embraced... based on vampire the masquerade )
if the apocalypse comes.... beep me!

i'm comparing it because these are the first humanised vampire stories i've seen since interview with a vampire.to be more specific the first "love stories"(don't remember if interview had that).now i'm not familiar with vampire literature 
but i did know twighlight was based on a book.i even atempted to watch the first movie,thought it was a steaming pile and kind of a sick perverted idea as well.i admit i didn't stick through till the end of it,not even to the midle for that matter....then i saw true blood was all over the place,assumed it was because twighlight became so popular.needless to say i avoided it for a long time but in the end my curiosity got the best of me so i watched a trailer for the show and liked the hbo style so gave it a shot.since then i can tell the difference between the two are crystal clear,true blood at least has a dark sense of humor about itself,but my question/comparison of the two spawned from the core concept they both share.

Well, here you are speaking the truth, from what I saw, TB wasn't such a "hit" until Twilight started the big boom on vampires with feelings.
