Re: the FINALE - thoughts
Oh and I found this which seems to summarise the finale pretty well. Well as I thought it went about... http://theoriesonlost.blogspot.com/2010/05/for-those-who-didnt-get-it-quick.html wrote:In the final confrontation. Desmond was the only person who could go down into the light and unplug the cork. By unplugging the cork. The island lost all power. When the island lost all power ALL THE RULES COULD NOW BE BROKEN. Smokey/MIB lost all of his powers which made him mortal again but at the same time he could now kill the candidates directly. At the same time the island without its power was being destroyed…probably the whole world was being destroyed like “Mother” told her kids on what would happen if the light went out. So MIB was now mortal and after a confrontation with Jack, he was finally killed. But the island needed to be re-plugged. Jack did this and sacrificed himself for the island. Hurley was left to be the new Jacob and Ben was his new “Richard” It appears that they had a successful long future not unseen but as Hurley told Ben in the ALT (which I am going to get into) “you were a good number 2” Ben: you were a good number 1” As for the people on the plane it appears that they escaped the island and probably lived happy lives back in the main land. The ones probably back in the island lived happy lives, like Rose Bernard, Cindy and the kids. As for Desmond he probably was able to get back to his family as well thanks to Hurley and Ben. Jack’s dying body was thrown out of the cave (like MIB’s body In Across the sea). He laid there dying looking up when Vincent came over and as he looked up and saw that the Ajira plane had been able to leave. He closed his eye and died. Eventually like everyone does, they all died, from old age or however. (including Richard who started to finally age). Hurley probably died long after everyone else once he found his own candidate. When they finally died their “spirits” joined the others who had died before during the course of the series, they were in this type of “purgatory” which in season 6 was the ALT reality. Once in this purgatory, once they “woke up” or realized that they were in reality dead. They were able to “cross-over” probably to a type of heaven depending on your spiritual views. They lived happily ever after, in the great beyond.
As for any other unsolved mystery? How about Walt? Aaron? “Hurley bird“, the outrigger chase scene. Some answers may yet be solved in the extras during the DVD release. And a lot of answers are already answered. Aaron was never special, Walt’s story was over in season 5. All of the weird visions people (like Walt’s random apparitions) were probably just MIB’s turning into them, but that’s my other theory.
People might not like this purgatory ending but we have to realize that everything that happened season 1 - 6 on the island was VERY REAL. Everything happened. The only thing that was purgatory was the ALT reality, and I strongly believe this was a joke of sorts from the writers. People from all the way back in season 1 kept theorizing that it was Purgatory all along, well the writers played an ironic story on us, we wanted a purgatory storyline, they created it…..it was the flash sideways. Honestly this was the perfect ending cause we will be able to theorize for decades to come but more importantly our characters got closure and that’s what LOST was truly about it was about the characters finally finding redemption and in the end, even if it was in the ALT/purgatory world…they finally found it. ...Except for poor Micheal who is stuck for all eternity on the island as a whisper, for the sins he committed. But at least for the most part all the characters got a happy ending

Re: the FINALE - thoughts
Hmmmm the ending proved to me that the writers/producers diden't plan anything from the beginning, that they diden't knew where they were heading but invented the story ark while going along the show. When they started the show, they only knew the premise that there are stranded passengers who are lost on an mysterious island and they are all dead/dieing/in a coma or something. What i liked is that she show ended as it started. It started with jack opening his eyes and ended with him closing it, for me that ment he died the day they crashed on the island, that's maybe also why they showed the remaining parts of the plane in the end credits again. - but that would make most of the invented storyline redundant..

i was almost having a panic attack near the end when i realised that they actually werent going to answer anything. but hey. it was a really good show and the with so many compelling mysteries they were probably never going to be able to have a truly satisfying conclusion.

besides, the Light/The Source is the place where the baltar and 6 angels/deamons originally came from, which granted the cylons sentience in the first place. This was before they built the Destiny mind you

Re: the FINALE - thoughts
Good series finale but the show should have been at least 50% shorter so they wouldn't leave TONS of plots unsolved.

Re: the FINALE - thoughts
I'm really surprised by peoples reactions, the ENTIRE series was a mystery, that's what made it so awesome. Every week you got to discuss with friends or on the internet and debate WTF is going on...the show has ended and guess what, we still get to do that. Sure there are a lot of questions unanswered but the main ones were, well we might not know what the answers mean but that is what made LOST so enjoyable. I've already had a hour debate with a friend who I watched it with, he totally lost the point and thought they all died with the initial Oceanic flight crash and went beserk lol. Initially I wanted every question answered, but as the date drew closer all the interviews I read prepared me for this sort of ending. I really liked how they ended the show with the reverse of the opening scene focusing on jacks eye as it closed...really sad. Overall it wasn't as satisfying as it could have been but it was so LOSTesque. I still want to know the BSM's name grrr I think an old quote sums up the lost experience perfectly "It is the journey that is important, no the destination." Its still the best TV ride I have ever had, the most entertaining and though provoking and just plain mind fxxking show produced even if the finale was a bit weak. Reminds me a lot of the Stephen King Dark Tower series in that regard.

Lol i like how every1 rationalises the Finale as good becuase they figured out that the flashes were a sort of limbo and the island was real. *Heres your Cookie* (Which is flawed becuase it didnt even make sense on how it came about) But the point is that all the questions we actually cared about wernt anwsered. OR even hinted at What was the island? What was the light? How did people get powers? HTF did they teleport an island? Lolz @ the guy who tried to Sue.

Why was the light worth dying for...you say that is a main questions? We didn't find out about the light until half way through this season..how can it be a main question? The light was what made the Island special, it was it heart, the light goes out, the Island dies...they all agreed that the Island was special so to save something special the light had to be saved...pretty simple. Its LOST, you arent going to get definitive answers, that's the whole point of the show....if you cant enjoy the journey of the past 6 years just because it didn't end the way you wanted it to, I feel sorry for you.

It wasn't mentioned in an ep, but it was a part of the Online Viral Lost marketing campaign. A lot of info came out on the internet, JJ and crew like that sorta thing.

Lolz @ the guy who tried to Sue.
We do have answers to all these even if we don't understand them all. Ok, apart from the first one. What was the light? It was the heart of the Island and the source of its "power" its electro magnetic force etc. How did people get powers? From the light How did they teleport the island (I'm guess you mean how did it travel through time)..by activating the machine powered by the light. Did you want some person to come on a narrate and say, well the light is actually xyz and it works by influencing 123? I think a lot of people missed the whole point of the show. Throughout the entire show we were put in the same position as the characters in that they really didn't know where they were or what was going on, they still didn't "understand" everything at the end, neither did we but we were given explanations to what made things happen even if we didn't understand why or how. We understand that the light made the island special but now how it worked or exactly what it was.

Re: the FINALE - thoughts
Yea i get what ur saying, i think alot of these things could have been explained alot better in a flashback or somthing. OR maybe they could have found some scriptures talking about the old cilvilisation that lived on the island and stuff. We were told the Light was the heart of the island and that if it went out somthing bad would happen to every1 around the world. But that didnt explain what it was, how it got there or why moving a rock affects it. ( And The Light was Random, one minute releasing it causes time travel and the next secound its poisonous and even gives u powers.......) Really i just wanted more story line and less randomness.

Re: the FINALE - thoughts
It kind of saddens me to see so many people wanting everything explained in detail, and every answer seemingly spoon fed to them, and tied up into a neat little bow. Real life doesn't work like that, so why should the dramatised television equivalent do so? Someone I know summed it up best when he said: "Don't people remember what happens when things are over explained? We go from having a mysterious all powerful Force to effing midichlorians." Is that really what people wanted here? What was The Island? It simply was what it was. Nobody knew for sure, because nobody could know. It was simply The Island. Why would Jack sacrifice himself for The Island? Because of faith. And faith is never logical, or rational, or explainable, or definable. Things that are done in the name of faith are done because we believe in the importance of it, not because we know and not because we have proof. If proof existed there would be no need of faith. Jack did what he believed had to be done. My view anyway.
Every breath you take, every move you make...I'll be watching you. That's police talk.

Re: the FINALE - thoughts
Compared to the ending of Alias where JJ REALLY didn't know what was going on, this was not bad. Minimal amount of clones and double-double agents and bringing people back from the dead, and did not completely turn into a relationship show. At least this complete final season was actually comprehensively put together with a plan that all ties together. Agree with Sledge Hammer, if they really have some explanation regarding the science of the island spoon-fed to you will just be more dissatisfied with a scientific explanation. For those that do want to be spoon-fed: Island=magical power source. Humans have a little light but always want more. Jacob made an oopsie and created smoke monster out of his brother, but since he's in charge he gets to make the crazy Rule (because he's got a non-traditional upbringing). He and MiB use and manipulate human minions do his bidding for their own struggle over the island. Losties eventually help Jacob restore order by killing MiB but most die along the way. Losties spend time in Purgatory in a collective consciousness to gain closure that time on the island was not Hell, but the most worthwhile thing in their lives, and see that their alternate reality where they never crashed is not as satisfying a life (similar when a bunch of them came back the first time). Once they come to grips with this and gain closure that it was worthwhile, they ascend/get 'sheperd'-ed or what have you.. Again look at JJ's Alias, the crap that is the Rambaldi "end-game" explained is the most dissatisfying ending ever. JJ should've solved Rambaldi by the end of season1, then moved onto the next mysterious prophet, rather then dragging out the single mystery for 7seasons and digressing into who loves who. Granted, the Lost ending does tie a lot of things up neatly and waves over some of the discontinuities, but it's not terrible. Like it's gonna be awkward for Sayid when he meets up with his wife with Shannon right there. Or guy who got sucked into the engine a few minutes into the pilot probably isn't going to think HIS time on the island was worthwhile, guess that's why he's not invited to the funeral.

Re: the FINALE - thoughts
Can't really blame JJ for the ending, seeing as he wasn't exactly involved much after the show got up and running... There was no way they could have ended it that pleased everyone. I'm glad they actually put some effort into it, instead of some stupid quick ending where its all a dream or they all died when the plane crashed or some shit like that.
