Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

I think they kind of ruined the Toclafane attack scene with that music...

Rumour has it they were going to do that with the Daleks too, in S1 (with the emperor!Dalek) but they were afraid the threat wouldn't be as serious if they did.

Silly, silly Master! smile

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

well, my post from last week kinda makes me look like an idiot. What was it 5 seconds untill they used Jacks teleporter? :banghead:

Even I thought it would take minutes until "Use Screwdriver with Teleporter".
But hey there was no time to hang around at the end of the universe and time. The Master had a lot to show this time. John Simm did a great show and I enjoyed every scene.

Too bad this season concludes next week with "Last of the Timelords".

@unfettered one: tnx for the Easter Egg links. Those sites are hilarious big_smile

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

yeah, THAT music... my boss was giving me a lift home from work the night I watched this episode, and it came on the radio, and he asked me what it was... all i could say was that it was the most annoying song I had ever heard...

funnily enough, I thought it suited the scene fine...

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

Any guesses to the real identity of the Toclafane?

I've got a few, but I figure that I'll go back through this the last couple of series, looking for more clues before sharing them.

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

The song's Voodoo Child by Rogue Traders, and it's sung by Iggy (I think) out of Neighbours (the Australian soap...). Surprised you hadn't heard it before Conundrum tongue

But are we supposed to know what the Toclafane really are? I mean it's a bit of a big stretch that they've been shown before...

yikes

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

oh i knew what it was [my last partner used to listen to it incessantly], i just felt the boss was better off not knowing...

and given the reference to it being a childhood boogeyman, i have to go with them being a perverted resurrection of the Time Lords...

destroy enough of the population so there is equal parts Toclafane and humans.... so the humans can be used as hosts?

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

11

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

Hmm, resurrection, could be Timelords from the "Bad Times"

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

and being that I was having dinner and trying to subdue two unruly children, my last post was rather vague...

methinks, using the paradox machine, the Master has captured the essence of the fallen Time Lords, and disguised them as the Toclafane... and in order to give them physical form, sent them to destroy all but enough of the human population to provide hosts, thus making Earth "New Galifrey"...

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

does anybody know of a timeline for the new series... the Master has been back for 18 months... were there any stories in the new episodes that fall in that time period....???

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

But why would the Master bring the Timelords back? Surely he'd get into "trouble" for running away when they resurrected him to fight in the Timewar? And he's done various thing int he past to annoy the Timelords i'm sure...

And in respect to the timeline, there was the first episode of the series (i forget the creatures name), The Lazarus Experiment (which has already been mentioned) and finally Blink (though it's not stated when this actually was).

valid questions... ones I also asked myself... after lengthy discussions via IM with a few different people, I have this theory to put forth...

the paradox machine.... the vortex the Time Lord children stared into... the Toclafane sounding like children... couple that with previous theories about the Toclafane creating New Galifrey...

I don' think the resurrected Time Lord children would be in a position to punish the Master...

[in case I wasn't vague enough... the Master created the vortex [using the paradox machine] to steal the Time Lords essence as children, imbued the essence into the Toclafane, and set them loose on Earth...]

It is a stretch, I know, but otherwise, I got nothing...

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

Believe it or not, references to Saxon (and what he was secretly doing) go all the way back to the middle of last season.

They've done a spectacular job this time out, hiding all the clues sublimely in plain sight. It really makes you want to go back over the entire series to date, and see if there is anything else they hid in there they intend to spring on us next season. Plenty more classic Who villains to dredge up from the old series. They have not even scratched the surface yet.

I'm just hoping that at least one episode in the coming season focuses itself inside the TARDIS. A lot of fans of the new series have no clue to simply how huge the TARDIS interior is (it's possible to literally get lost in the place for days); or the fact that the TARDIS has multiple control rooms (it was never meant to be piloted by a single person), each with it's own distinctive look and feel. Some of the best Doctor Who adventures from the past, had sizable chunks of them taking place in the TARDIS, with our hero using the labyrinthine  passageways to confuse enemies who had been unfortunate enough to cross the threshold of the TARDIS door in pursuit of the Doctor. It would certainly be nice to have another such rump within the confines of the Doctor's time capsule.

yeah, this I did, in retrospect, catch onto...clever b**s*ards...

for the record, my question about the time line was directed at the series as a whole, not the latest "season".. [which is exactly why the English vs American definition of series/season annoys the hell out of me... ]

so the Master has been on earth for 18 months, but given the time jumping nature of the show, does that preclude anything before the middle of last season, or have they cleverly been able to pull [at the time unintentional] threads from before that...

all that aside, it was a perfect excuse to spend a day sitting down and watching the first two series again to try and shed some light on who the Toclafane may be...

piecing together a timeline at the moment to [hopefully]help shed some light on the whole thing..., and also because, I couldn't find one online, which I find odd...

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

Hmm, and here I was just thinking the Toclafane were new / temporary  forms for the Daleks

.... still secretly hoping I'm right though ;D

Re: 03x12 - The Sound of Drums

yeah, that was my first thought, given their design, but once i started thinking about that vortex....
