Veronica Mars fans have Jericho-like campaign

Veronica Mars fans inspired by the fan campaign-prompted resurrection of Jericho from the CBS scrapheap last week have embarked on a similar campaign in an attempt to save the show.

Mars was excluded from The CW's 2007-08 lineup announced last month, effectively cancelling it. However, creator Rob Thomas has pitched an idea for a continuation of the series set three years from the end of the last season, and it is understood that he and the show's star Kristen Bell are in talks with CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff about a project. However, it is unclear whether that project is Veronica Mars related.

Fans of the show are planning to deluge Ostroff with various forms of Mars bars and marshmallows in a similar fashion to the mass-sending of peanuts to CBS executives by Jericho fans. The fans plan to get the bars to Ostroff in time for June 15, the last possible date that Mars could be picked up.

Will it really help?  I think that Veonica Mars is pretty much gone.

Re: The Quest to Save Veronica Mars, Is On.

I wonder if it really should be resurrected. Maybe a few episodes, or just one longer ep, to round off the series. There were just too many loose ends. The series is pretty much rounded off, nothing really new or interesting was happening in the third season. I think a series should end, if it's just more of the same, slowly dying off. Better just end it with a blast. :-)

I really don't think that it would be a great idea to resurrect VM as it was. Although - as I said before - I could imagine a VM spin off with VM at the FBI with cool new characters and 'bigger' cases. Kirsten Bell gets too old and experienced as a high school or college PI wink

Re: The Quest to Save Veronica Mars, Is On.

The CW has officially pulled the plug on Veronica Mars. Series creator Rob Thomas confirmed the news for me via e-mail just moments ago.

"I'm afraid I have to report that Veronica Mars is officially dead," he wrote. "At least in TV show form. There's really no way that it can happen now. I'm not sure the CW should've given the glimmer of hope. I think Dawn Ostroff genuinely would have liked to have continued on with a version of the show, but there was too much resistance around her. At the end of the day, it would've been kinder had the band aid simply been ripped off rather peeled away in than this agonizingly slow manner."

Ironically, the news comes just as Veronica Mars fans — inspired by Jericho's 11th hour resurrection — are in the midst of bombarding The CW with thousands of Mars candy bars in advance of that June 15 deadline.

Re: The Quest to Save Veronica Mars, Is On.

Could you please write about the iTunes Tuesday we are promoting for Veronica Mars? Tomorrow we are asking fans to go online and purchase Veronica's final episode, "The Bitch Is Back," from iTunes to show our support. Thanks so much!
Fo' shizzle. I love the idea of iTunes Tuesday. I'll be downloading with the rest of you, since continued demonstrations of support for Veronica Mars could potentially influence the development of a movie.

Isn't Kristin Bell going off to do other things also?
