What's to get. He's a push over who likes people who need him.
Re: 6x09 Wilson
Yeah, but out of all the people who could need him he chose to be a doormat for the guy that will corrupt and destroy him completely...

Yeah, that doesn't sound at all like something that 50% of the human population (just about every young woman) does or anything. Eyeroll.
All it means is that the Wilson character is the female side of the House-Wilson relationship. He takes abuse because (a) he knows House needs someone who will take the abuse and not leave him, and (b) he has his own self esteem/abandonment issues as a result of his failed marriages and his profession, which has him losing patients to cancer on a regular basis. So while unhealthy by most standards, the relationship provides an otherwise-absent stability for both characters (which is why the Amber romance was so threatening for House).
Of course, the relationship is not really mutualism, but more like non-lethal parasitism. Wilson does not really get as much out of it as House does. But in many ways Wilson is just as alone as House, and maybe even more so because he retains his empathy in a highly depressing specialty. House loses patients too, but distances himself from the human side of his mysteries and thus has more defenses than Wilson. But even so, he does blame himself for his occasional failures to diagnose, and usually tells terminal patients in person when there is nothing left to be done. The casefile that he kept for a decade because he had not solved it in time to save the patient implies that he is more emotionally involved with his cases than he lets on, and as his friend Wilson understands that and tolerates a lot in the relationship knowing that House needs someone who will not abandon him.
[Although his specialty is not oncology, diagnostics of bizarre cases would probably carry a much higher than normal rate of mortality, since if the cases were easily solved they would not get to House's team. So the refusal to get to know his patients is a defense mechanism to avoid pain rather than the rational choice to increase objectivity that he claims it to be. He doesn't hate patients, he hates losing patients.]
It would be a very interesting storyline if House had a serious relationship and abandoned Wilson for a while. What would Wilson do? How would he react?
Re: 6x09 Wilson
Agreed! I definitely agree that the proposed storyline would be interesting.

Aren't you exagerrating a bit?

And the questions are: why Wilson can't find more satisfying relationship? is House really "non-lethal parasite"?
Maybe without House Wilson could deal with it all much better?

Maybe he would donate another organ...
Anyway, I'm glad that the show changed a little from its usual routine - I hope they won't return to the old pattern.
