Re: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's KitchensYup! This looks promising! Re: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's KitchensI would rather see a new season of Terminator Re: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's KitchensMoze wrote:
Terminator is a great show, and I'm really sad to see it canceled... but based on the latest episode of Dollhouse, I don't think I would pick Terminator over it.... Re: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's Kitchensyou base that on one episode? I think the most of this serie was boring, didnt like ecco, didnt like her handler, didnt like the boss woman, didnt like the scientist or the doctor, but what i truly digg was Alpha ! Man what a plesent supprise! So i fear there is no hope for me, but i will continue to watch. Re: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's KitchensI think the "episode" he's referring to is Epitaph One, and yeah... it's really possible to gauge where the show is going, based on that ONE episode. Srsly. Not JUST because it's awesome, but because it shows the epic scope of the possible future of this show. Re: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's Kitchenscant seem to find that episode Re: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's KitchensRe: Fox Staying out of Dollhouse, Whedon's Kitchens
...where did I put that rat's ass I could give?
Daemons are benevolent or benign nature spirits, beings of the same nature as both mortals and gods, similar to ghosts, chthonic heroes, spirit guides, forces of nature or the gods themselves. I am gung-ho to blame Fox for anything anytime, but I would not be so hasty in blaming Dollhouse's first six episodes on them. It is true that the stand-alone episode format was a mandate from high above, but Joss himself admitted that the writers themselves didn't know where the show was going or what it was about. I have nothing but respect for Tim Minear ever since the second season of Angel and Out of Gas, but even his episodes of Dollhouse were rather lukewarm and both came well after the supposed 6th episode turn about. The problem with Dollhouse is that it's a very high-concept show. The main protagonist is basically character-less, wiped at the end of every show and the remainder of the cast are all unlikeable people. Moreover, the show is exploring some dark and deprived ideas coupled with heavy philosophy while trying to be "acceptable" for network TV and prime time airing. I think it just took time for Joss and his writing staff to find the tone of the show and the stories they wanted to tell, and to hit their stride. While this usually happens within the first two or three episodes it took much longer with Dollhouse. Luckily we are past this phase and the last two or three regular episodes knew very well what they were doing. I would just caution against too much optimism based on Epitaph One. Yes that episode was fraktastically awesome and elevated the whole show. But the fact is they cannot really continue the story where Epitaph One left off because that would cheapen the episode (and Joss said they wouldn't anyway) and make it less "special." I think there is greatness coming, just not of the Epitaph One kind, but more in line with episodes 10 to 11.
