Hmmm... I was wondering if anyone was watching Kings besides me. It's an interesting concept , taking a biblical story and setting it in the future.

Is it really set in the future? I was sort of thinking more like a parallel universe or something.... Or perhaps more fantasy, like The Shire and Mordor..... big_smile

I guess either is possible, but I was picturing it maybe a hundred years into our future. Probably after a global war with nearly total breakdown of society. Then a rebuilding under a powerful king.

Re: Best new show of the past season?

Well, there are shows where you see the first 1 or 2 episodes and just HATE it.
For me, Dullhouse and Leverage did that.

Some shows you just LOVE from first episode,
i highly recommend "The No1. Ladies Detective Agency",
and "Better Off Ted"

Between those two extremes (i.e. cool, but kind of average) are shows
like Fringe, Lie to Me, Castle, Mentalist. True Blood, Elenventh Hour.

I DO have a thing for UK shows, so i might add Crusoe, Merlin, Being Human, No Heroics AND
"Kröd Mändoon" ;-)

cheers

this i must agree with... just watched all available episodes over the last few days...instantly likable... and "Kröd Mändoon"... my god, what can you say... nearly peed myself, i did... big_smile

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: Best new show of the past season?

I don't get how people can like the Mentalist more than Lie to Me...the Mentalist started strong, but now he's pretty much stopped acting like a Mentalist...he's just some arrogant guy...
...in Lie to Me, every episode has has something that gets your mind involved. Way better.

Re: Best new show of the past season?

...was Legend of the Seeker new this season? yeah, it's in season one....
...it's fantastic. It's basically like a Smallville meets Lord of the Rings drama...romance and adventure and a hero, set in a fantasy world. I've enjoyed every single episode so far.

On a scale of 1 to 10 where BSG is a 10, how good is The Legend of the Seeker?

5?

I watch it, that would have my vote, but it's still far from perfect.
It's like Heracles kinda...
maybe if you are read the original story, then you would hate the show, but i'm not and i like it.
Actually it's even more like Merlin. Kinda same style..

i'd put it at a 5 also... it's not essential viewing, but it's pretty hard to fault it [so far]... and sheesh... bruce spence... bruce fucking spence, buddy... uhuh...

i'm going to eat your brains and gain your memories...

Re: Best new show of the past season?

I only watched 2 or 3 episodes of BSG season 1 and just didn't get into it, so I'm not qualified to make that comparison. Like tC said though, it's really hard to fault Legend of the Seeker....
....I might even agree with giving it just a 5, but honestly it's the show I look forward to most, week by week.

As for Lie to Me vs. The Mentalist, how does the Mentalist keep you on your toes lately? And how are the characters (aside from Jane) anything but flat? Lisbon is so bland, it would take an ocean of salt to make me give a damn about her. I think the only thing that could keep me watching the Mentalist for another season would be if they picked up on Red John's trail...leaving that out of episodes makes a lot of the episodes just seem like filler.

Oh No, a Belgian........:D......WELCOME...........no we don't play prog rock or jazz in the background for you, but everyone has a healthy sense of sarcasm about themselves here.........no new TV, what's that about?  Some great stuff has come out this last season, pick from this list:

Generation Kill
Crash
Raising the Bar
Gary Unmarried
The Mentalist
Dollhouse
Lie To Me
Fringe
Penguins of Madagascar

....which are the only ones worth mentioning.....everything else is shite.

Screw that last statement though...

Re: Best new show of the past season?

I'm not sure which is the best because I like many of them; I voted True Blood because it seems a bit different from most tv shows... I hope second season is as good as the first one.

I love Fringe - sci-fi, conspiracy & humor - a good combination smile
I watch Dollhouse and I like it, I hope it will get even better
I Like The Mentalist - it is almost never boring but I agree that some characters need more development
Castle is sweet but I'd welcome some new twists to this story (like ex-lover from FBI in the last ep) otherwise it will get boring
I watch Lie to Me hoping that something will move forward... otherwise I'll stop watching
The Legend of the Seeker is fun - it made me read the book... I like both the show and the book even though there are significant differences (but it is a good thing)
Kings - I watch but it seems less exciting than I hoped wink

Harper's Island and The Listener aren't worth the bandwidth... tongue

Re: Best new show of the past season?

How about The Unusuals? the cast is fantastic...I think there's room for improvement, but it's pretty damn unique as far as cop shows go. It's a great dramedy.

Re: Best new show of the past season?

oh, and one day I might retry BSG...but given that I don't have time to watch X number of seasons all at once, I'm content to say we're 'friendship-pending', if that's okay with you, P1. lol. One day when I've got more time...
...I'm not against it per se, I just never got into it when I watched the first few eps.

and i'd welcome some insight as to why i dig this show so much... i mean, like you say, there is room for improvement, and overall the plots aren't that great... but damn i do like it a lot... it's kinda quirky without being too gratuitous about it...

Re: Best new show of the past season?

It's the characters...they're a fantastic mix...perfectly cast...and the show is as advertised: unusual.
