Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...
It's already appealed... But what interest me is that now they have set a price on a downloaded copy of anything. So IPRED should not be able to sue for more than that price!
Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...
it amazes me that they were convicted...
Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...
Yeah this is stupid.... you can't blame a group of guys for a fault in the system that's happening worldwide. In the article it states that even after they were raided the sites were still operational only thru certain "individuals." Moving a torrent site around wouldn't be very difficult at all.
Yes corporations lose money for each mp3 and movie and whathaveyou that's shared on the internet but the only way to fix something as big as this is to regulate the internet. Have everyone log into AOL and have all the sites that are regulated and disgustingly happy out their for people to surf through. If the same people had their way they would take down Next-Episode.net just for telling people when they could have torrents downloaded.
Sadly this is just a modern day witch hunt and where they would rather spend millions on finding people to blame rather then focus'n on securing their own media.
Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...

It's just the first court... the judges are politicians, with no education what so ever... and this trial didn't matter anyway.. we all knew that it would get appealed, whatever the outcome..
This trial was nothing but a media spectacle..

Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...
They are loosing money because they produce rubbish. They also make up numbers to say how much money they are loosing. A few years ago (2 i think) they said music sales were down that year compared to the year before. What they didn't tell you was that they produced and release less albums that the year before. Nope, they blamed P2P.
I download music. Not much, just a few albums here and there. However, I would never consider buying those albums in the first place as I would only want one or two songs.
Films: I only go the cinema once in a blue-moon because most of the crap Hollywood produces is the same unwatchable stuff they have remade over and over again, or a crap remake of a good foreign film.
90% if the the stuff I download are TV series.

Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...
Yep. In Can ahh da ya it's illegal to upload but legal to download, but not for long.
That was the law here.... a few years ago.... but still... does recording something on a vhs-tape and lending it to your neighbour, count as the same thing as uploading and downloading?

I assume it is considered more of a crime - you are making a physical reproduction and distributing it.
Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...
Right from the first day that creative product was first considered intellectual 'property' our pirating days have been numbered.
Much as I love downloading stuff for free, it feels like I'd be a drug addict defending the need to keep crystal meth and crack cocaine available.

Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...

Same in Poland
In Belgium it is both illegal but they don't check individuals.
They just raid lan parties when the politicians start to ask questions why no action is being take against downloading.
And even then ... first time you get caught you have to sign a paper where you state that you "won't do it again". Only the second time they try to charge you for it.
Re: Terrible News everyone: The Pirate Bay...
Not much will change....
They will probably win in the higher courts becuse the higher you get in the swedish court system the more fair it gets.
"But as in all good movies, the heroes lose in the beginning but have an epic victory in the end anyhow. That's the only thing hollywood ever taught us."

I think that tpb will win in HD (Highest court in Sweden), but if it goes all the way to EG (joint court in the European union), they might actually lose...
