Topic: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

Thought I would post a bit of trivia about episode 6 I found while cruisin' da web! It gives me hope that maybe from now we will get the quality of material we were used to having with whedon's shows.

Also the trailer doesn't look bad even though fox sucks at promos :

Joss Whedon : Dollhouse is about to Get "Stronger" and "Pretty intense"

Calling his latest creation's first episodes mere "baby steps," Joss Whedon is getting the word out that from Episode 6 on, Fox's Dollhouse will be an extra-compelling place to visit.

In a note to reporters (or "Newsly Types," as he puts it) accompanying a DVD of "Man on the Street" (airing March 20) and "Needs" (April 3), Whedon says, "These two episodes represent a much stronger vision of what I consider the show to be."

Thus far, Dollhouse has been met with a lukewarm reception, with Whedon loyalists in particular noting a lack of the author's trademark witty dialogue. The ratings have reflected such a frustration, dropping 25 percent from the premiere to barely 3.6 million heads at last count.

But since almost before Dollhouse opened its doors, the buzz has been that the structure of the first five hours was largely dictated by Fox, so as to drive home the unusual concept and morally gray characters. Episode 6, thus has been described as "game-changing," as Tahmoh Penikett's Agent Ballard comes face-to-face — and "fist-to-fist," teases Fox — with Echo (Eliza Dushku) for the very first time.

Says Whedon in his missive, "For me, the question isn't just whether a show is enjoyable, but whether it's more than the sum of its fun, whether it truly touches, surprises or connects with you. These [episodes] may do none of the above — I'm not the boss of your opinion — but I feel strongly that they, and the eps to follow, are pretty intense, and very much worth the watching."

What say you, Dollhouse and/or Whedon fans? Are you prepared to engage with Echo a bit more?

Well... I am. The last two episodes were rather that of what i expected of a Whedon show in the first place smile

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

The nest two episodes will have be be a much stronger vision of what [he considers]  the show to be or I'm out. The background story is interesting and I am curious to see it develop but the weekly "missions" are boring and uninspired.

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

I keep reading each episode is going to be better than the last - but all are falling flat so far.

1x06 will be the last episode for me unless there is something to keep my interest. I have only stuck with it this far because of the Joss Whedon reputation, if it was Sam Smith's show i never would have seen the 2nd episode.

So far there has been too much semi naked flesh and not enough story. I am not in the least interested in what Victor does with Ms Lonely Hearts, or that he has erections in the shower when staring at Sierra.

It is so far a little too much like a weak version of Alias with a little watered down VR-5 thrown in as a twist. Badly executed so far, which is why they keep putting out how much better the next couple of episodes will be - hopefully this time they are telling the truth and they are actually being modest and the rest of the season will be awesome.

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

I absolutely agree with you messianic! I want to believe that everything I read about the upcoming episode is true...

As a matter of fact, I stumbled upon another piece of info that's a bit spoilerish but renewed my interest in wanting to keep on watching Dollhouse.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

Just watched 1x06 - and i have to say i am sticking with it, for now - this episode was not as 'great' as the hype was suggesting - but it did have a little edge and bite to it - just enough to keep me around for another episode.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!

I am seriously hoping they never thought anyone was fooled with Mellie being a Doll - it was clear they were sending Hearn on a one way mission. As morally ambiguous as they are - sending someone on a rape and murder mission is obviously crossing the line clearly marked 'Do Not Cross.'

It is also pretty clear that Topher's assistant will be the 'inside man' i think, i hope i am wrong though. She conveniently was inserted in the remote wipe episode and it is obvious she knows as much as Topher at least.

This show is clearly schizophrenic - empty headed sex you don't consent to is wrong (rape) - sex with sad men you are programmed to think you want but can't remember ever having (rape) is perfectly fine, as long as it costs bundles of cash.

Either way sex in this show costs - some money - some with their lives - always the dignity of the dolls.

I did love this line - "if there is some giant conspiracy that's sucking the brains out of nice young people, this bit of tail you are chasing is, A, effectively dead and, B a whore. A mindless whore - just your type, no disrespect i'm sure she still has a heart of gold... arghh..."

No disrespect at all! Whatever that guys name is bring him back at least once an episode and have him and Helo going at it each time!

EDIT: I forgot about the Dude who wants to get with another Dude that can be wiped!

I just read the link - i am excited that Amy Acker is going to get a little more attention - that character is not even remotely interesting - best case scenario is she turns evil and blue - again!

I am not sold on this series yet - i am still waiting for the next episode and it falls flat - like the first five episodes - i am gone.

I think Joss and ALL the writers of Dollhouse should have spent less time writing about how in 5 episodes things get great - and concentrated on making EVERY episode as good as it can get. So far one out of six is pretty lame, and seriously 106 was not all good - it just wasn't as bad as what had went before it - the bar is clearly lowered with each episode.

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

Just saw episode 6 and I gotta say I loved it.

Helo (don't care what his name is in this... he will always be Helo ;D  ) Man he kicked some ass, and was actually a pretty cool fight between echo as well.

Finally we get a bit of Joss Whedon humour with the interviews Finally!!

Hope it continues more that that vein and I'll forgive the first 5 woeful episodes.

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

I agree - 1x06 felt very different from the last 5 eps. The intermission interviews got you thinking what if...

The story around Echo and 'Helo' is finally evolving and the weekly boring closed ciruit story telling is finally over - or even better - part of the bigger picture the whole Dollhouse story is trying to tell smile

Nice show - at last - and if goes on like this - a keeper big_smile

Tnx Joss wink

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

It has upped the ante certainly. Like someone said, it's a nice change that for once thre was no "engagement" like the other episodes!

Exactly.. if they would be doing engagements in every episode, it would become one of these boring "every episode is exactly the same"-show...
I really hope that we will keep this new story line going... smile

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

It was a good ep....Helo's woman being a doll was almost unexpected but it was cool to see.

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

also, I thought the whole "porn"-gag was pretty classic Joss-stuff. I lol'd.

That reminded me somewhat of the whole Giles and Buffy's mum getting it on in that episode where they all turn into adult kids. lol

Re: Dollhouse 1x06 "Man on the Street".

I don't like this show so much. And being 6 episodes in, I don't think i'm going to like it any more.
