Topic: MobLand
MobLand

Follows two warring families in London whose enterprises stretch all corners of the globe, and the fiercely loyal fixer charged with protecting one of them at all costs.
Ironically this show had an alternative name "The Donovans", since if I'd had to describe it, I would say it's basically Ray Donovan in the world of John Wick First episode was good. A lot of star power here, with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Hellen Mirren...which usually isn't an indicaton for a good show but in this case it could be a decisive factor. Directing, writing and the story all make a good first impression as well. Can't wait for episode 2

Re: MobLand
Not seen it yet, but it's not getting great reviews here. Cartoonish Cockney accents, poor Irish accents from actual Irish people(!) and generally a waste of all the acting talent involved.
2020. Meh.

Trailer makes it look like a less funny (but good!) alternative to https://next-episode.net/the-gentlemen I shall check it out if IMDb gives the green light in a few days.

Re: MobLand
Just watched the first episode and it is excellent plenty of action and intrigue Brosnan and Mirren are believable in their roles.

Re: MobLand
Well, sat through ep1 yesterday... not impressed. I mean, it is ok. But nothing more than that. The first episode did not build up any motivation to even start episode 2. Terrible accents put aside, it just feels like "haven't we seen all of this before, but much more interesting?". Feels more like a soap opera, like Irish crime "Dynasty". Maybe, if I am REALLY bored, I might go to epi2, but probabkly won't happen as I have enough other stuff on my watch list including rewatching actual good shows. sorry, but no... this show doesn't deserve the praise and hype it gets.

Re: MobLand
Just watched the season finally. Overall it was OK. The story became weaker by the episode and the grand conclusion to it all fell flat at the end. I don't like cliffhangars that much, but this show could've used one - with how they left it, utterly forgettable. But for all it's flaws the biggest one is that we never get to see the full scope of either family, Harrigans and Stevensons. I still have no idea how many soldiers or workers or different branches these two crime operations have and what influence they wield...
▼Spoiler ...especially that last scene with Conrad made it looked like everyone in the prison was part of the Harrigan family or supported them somehow....well that was the first time we get to see more than 10 people working for one side. And Stevensons...so those 10-15 guys were all they had (left)? As for Harry, there was no real surprise with him. He kept his cool from the beginning to the end...no expectations made and no expectations failed. Cat was the second person to threaten his family...if he had at least put a bullet in here that would've been somewhat unexpected. I was hoping for some grand payback from Kevin but no, all bark no bite (at least none we have seen). Eddie just disappeared at the end, no idea what happened to him (and nobody seems to care).

Re: MobLand
Well, the legend of Tom Hardy continues... https://www.standard.co.uk/showbiz/tom- … 83327.html Apparently he won't be back for S3 due to being tardy and difficult to work with. Maybe Jason Statham would fit nicely into this character.

Re: MobLand
“Hardy was apparently late to set a bunch, constantly asked to give notes on scripts, attempted to change dialogue, and expressed his displeasure that a series initially built around him was increasingly becoming an ensemble showcase for Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and other co-stars.”
And he was right. Also I did not watch this show for Helen Mirren or even Pierce Brosnan who is trying way too hard in this show.

MobLand | Season 2 Teaser | Paramount+ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SCegP4s3n0 I'd say this looks like an improvement over Season 1

Re: MobLand
Brutal season 2 opener. From the looks of it Guy Ritchie is turning up the heat. I am so glad they resolved the Tom Hardy issue. Without him I don't think I would have watched this. I am stoked about this seasons and the episodes to come. Love Guy Ritchie stuff. And Tom Hardy and the rest of the cast are brilliant. Nobody does mob shows better than the British.

Just finished S0202, and the good vibes continue. Brilliant episode. Its getting harder and harder to keep track of who is screwing who. I need a score card.

Re: MobLand
Yep. I liked s02e02 except for ▼Spoiler What t.f. is with weird foot-fetish wanna-be gangster as a choice to elevate into a position of running the entire crime world of London - so Kat can then run him? Its like trying to take some low-iq corner boy slinging crack and make them the head mobster of the city. There's miles apart from who this nutter is from being the ruthless type to take control. With other mob shows on the air like Tulsa or even Mayor of Kingstown you can see a much better depiction of the type of thinker it takes to head a crime syndicate. Someone that is playing 4d chess while everyone around is playing checkers. Honestly - I was hoping for someone on par with Harry. If you can turn and own Harry, then you find another contender cut from the same cloth. Then you can make a season with two equals, one defending the current family in charge, and one trying to replace them. This guy is just some wanker going on about germs under your fingernails - not someone threatening to burn down your empire.

2x02 Hot damn those last few minutes were awesome. First episode was a bit mellow but this hit the right spot ▼Spoiler Can't wait for Harry and track-suit guy to face off. I really hope someone ends Maeve in this season, I know the show needs her - but I need that bitter sweet victory for everyone else

Not wrong - Maeve with the grandson is getting creepy to the point of grooming. That season 1 exchange: > You're my grandma >> No I'm not. Oh wait, you really don't know do you? I'm waiting for the old broad to try to shag the grandson - its that creepy.

She must die. But enjoy it while she is alive. Her death will be celebrated like Joffrey Baratheon's death. Damn that woman can play a cold hardened killer, I think if I met her in real Life I would be fearful of her, and crap my pants. This show just gets better with every episode. I don't know if I can survive till the end. My heart cant take it. Best episodic show ever. For me. It is not often you go up from episode 1 and keep climbing. I mean shit, look at Star Trek. @SgtSaint you have no idea how close she got to shagging her grandson. I thought they would have done it this last episode. But at the last minute it went the other way.

Yeah - saw that coming from a mile away. The grandson was scared shytless laying there too. His eyes as big as Gowron's (Klingon leader). s02e02 didn't grab me. Nice to see "Bunny" from Mayor of Kingstown. That was a nice surprise. What I don't get though was:
▼Spoiler They got Kevin's wife back and still had the blond jackass with the bowl haircut like he's trying to be Nathan Fillion in Green Lantern. Why not just shoot this fkr in the face and be done with him? Then take his correctly laid out plan that had them all in charge as the continued face of the family - and be the face of the family - but without him? It was just one of those dumb plot devices that exist only to further the story but in no way would happen with these characters in this universe.

I questioned that part as well. But I think he knew too much about them abd their business model, had they offed him, there would have been some serious repercussions. And the minute he put his bike helmet down I knew it was ▼Spoiler a bomb. But I fail to see how it could have been that huge of an explosion.

Yeah. That was nonsense. ▼Spoiler That big - Nonsense Second floor explosion triggering first floor, outdoor welding cylinders and car fuel tanks within 5 seconds - nonsense

Re: MobLand
2x03 Damn that one scene was awkward, I had to close my eyes and cover my ears And damn that end was awesome... I didn't think of the bike helmet at all. This episode made me wanna binge watch it so badly but waiting and not watching the next episode? Not. An. Option. ▼Spoiler That look Harry gave Seraphina, uff gave me shivers. If she didn't realize he is on to her, she ain't as smart as everyone thinks If Zosia is really working for Frankie now that would be disappointing. I don't care if he is threatening her with something - I would have imagined she and Harry would have some kind of code for a situation like that. Can't decide which fight I wanna see more: Harry vs. Frankie Cooper or Harry vs. Donnie/Jamie They have to give us Donnie - that's a must. But Frankie Cooper would be also kinda cool for Kevin to finish.

2x04 A big disappointed with the beginning. The fallout of 2x03 should've been more on display. But they turned it around at the end - looks like Harry's going to finally let loose

So true! One of my fav things about Taboo was the detail they went to in order to show small details about life at that time and the tools/conveniences that they had. Case in point, I never knew they had urinals behind a pub back then or the incredible danger of making black powder for rifles.
