Another question I was wondering about

▼Spoiler

Why didn't they kill Juliette when she went to Silo 17?
What was so special about that situation that she is the only one that was allowed to go beyond the mound?

I get that they couldn't take action when she was still in view of the screen for 18 but once she was no longer visible they could've taken her out.

Silo 1 also didn't say anything to Bernard at that point (S02E02).

I had the same question, but it was answered indirectly in the last episode. When they showed how they operate. They were killing her. They take out "fugitives" with drones. Either shoot them or deploy the "compound". So, in her case a drone high enough in the sky to not be heard dropped the surprise, but there was even a bigger surprise - that she went out in an actually sealed suit (modified from the original design of planted useless suits - "used the good tape").

An open question is why that suit even helps - I still think that it's not some simple poison, but that nanites stuff. But you need something to write a story, so, can squint a bit here.

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Checked that this is based not on one book, but 3 of them:

Wool (by Hugh Howey) (2011)
Shift (by Hugh Howey) (2013)
Dust (by Hugh Howey) (2013)

Maybe just need to read them instead of waiting a year till S04 big_smile

Never again!

Learned that if you start reading the books inbetween Seasons it completely ruins the show for you.
That happened to me with Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) and many anime (e.g. Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka).

Either read the books before or wait until the show is finished to read them smile

Started to read the first one, which is basically S01 before all flashbacks. It's good, way more detailed world building, interactions with IT etc., also how they make those suits and alike.

Stuff like from where and how popped up "the good tape" explained very well.

According to robot, the first book covers S01/S02 and parts of S03. 2nd and 3rd book is S03/S04.

The book describes Juliette Nichols exactly how Rebecca Ferguson looks like, a perfect fit.

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]

The first book + 1/3 of the second book covers events of all 3 seasons. TV show has creative freedoms and don't stick exactly to the books, but the general idea is the same. All is explained in details. Books story as expected is not with such high tech. For example, Silo 1 communicates with the rest over some landlines. Books also are more bloody, graphic. And a shocker - TV show has a pretty long list of "modern audiences" adaptations, haha. For example,

▼Spoiler

in books Walker is not a female, there are no lesbian love stories, in Silo 1 by design are just men etc. Also there is no evil billionaire who sponsors silos, instead they are funded by misappropriation of USA taxpayers money. And here come funny moments - Daniel Keene originally has name Donald Keene with a nickname Donny, Senator Thurman also is not a Rosalind, but is a corrupt ex-military guy carrier politician of.... Democratic Party and nukes (they indeed were nukes) went off during a big Democratic Party event smile

In books what, how, why all makes sense and is logical. Books also do the same jumping back and forth, but stuff is emphasized way more than can show in a few scenes of a TV series. Meaning, there at no point is a confusion what is happening.

P.S. The second book Introduction has massive spoilers.

In short, if you will read the 1st + 2nd book till the chapter of the big boom, you basically just will have a good explanation what happened S01-S03.

Re: Silo [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Rewatched S03. When you know the context, it's actually a quite good season and convulated parts are those which TV show writers butchered. A bunch of things in the original story are way better and are messed up by modern audiences sanitization.

For example,

▼Spoiler

in the original Helen is not a strong, independant journalist - and there is no "big news story" nonsense, "can you end homlessnes with all that money", "how about ending poverty wordlwide" lala virtue signaling; Keene has hands on involvement in silo development not just some clumsy drill fairy tale - and he was scammed to participate in it; Anna plays a way bigger role; there are no irrelevant Charlotte's personal stories; there is no Iran dirty bomb bs (which in S03 is totally randomly thrown in) - Iran angle is way more interesting - here they basically say that they are at an open war, but go around their lives as if nothing is happening, haha; the senator plays 10x bigger role and there are no cringy rich guys unicorn stories etc.

If S03 feels random, it's because it is and none of that is a fault of the original author. It's just a mild censorship and an artificial adjustment of the story which logically feels fake/out of place. They just put a condom on a good story and drew flowers on it which you are obliged to like.

And I think that in next seasons all this indeed will take some evil AI turn. Can extrapolate/calculate that from the rich guy direction and the bending of the story to USA current stuff.
