within the first minute of this episode i was questioning if it was a soap opera or making fun of TOS and shatner's acting.
it could have been going either way. i would have preferred if everyone has been acting like shatner in tos. have i watched a soap opera? never an entire one.
but i have had to sit, while long minutes of my life drift away, while visiting elderly family members and they seem to watch nothing but soap operas.
at least most soap operas are bad because they cant do better, and not on purpose.
( i hear mexican tele novelas are even more over the top with crasy writers and crazy actors)

Not Trelane, the Soap... I never watched a soap opera and only have seen small clips of them - that is not something I would ever enjoy or associate with Star Trek. Story was ok and especially the last scene was good.
Yup, it proved Pinocchio was a real boy after all.

I made it through the first 10 minutes of this latest episode and gave up it was so painful. Binned it and now removed from my watch list.

Ya, I agree. 407 - Like Chronitons Through The Hourglass, this bad Q soap opera episode actually worked. I liked that Q made fun of everyone, hung a lantern on their own stupidity (I took it as the writers were making fun of their own writing), and unpacked how both humans and Q's stumble into truth through their own ineptitude. Pike's imagined backstory landed much like our enjoyment of TV, how stories can impress real emotion when they have a connection to our own life. Still not Star Trek though.

But season 5 is where we see how pike ends up in the blink once for yes twice for no chair. And the Kirk era begins. How can a true Trekkie not wish to see that?

Maybe they saw how poorly the last season was received, where they mostly tried to be all serious and dramatic, then remembered how popular the Lower Decks episode in season 2 had been and overcorrected in that direction? Why they decided to bring back the "don't mention he's obviously supposed to be a Q" guy is beyond me though. The episode was nowhere near as horrible as it should have been, mostly because they kept Pike sane. Would still be better if they hadn't made it at all.

I couldn't do it. I started this soap opera episode 3 times… made it maybe, MAYBE 5 minutes each time, and stopped it. I couldn't get out of sickbay. I know the OVER dramatic acting, side views to the camera all that was deliberate and part of the joke... but the cringe doubled with the Captain being aware of it... commenting on the lighting... hearing the accent music... the entire 'self aware' of it all. The first 10 mins of it all was enough for me to say "This is an hour of my life I'll never get back. I'd rather re-watch an episode of Halo... or some guy doing a 3d printer unboxing on YouTube"

preferably grimdark, but not warhammer
but other then stephen r donaldson
i am starved for good sci-fi
so i read fantasy, which has what i need right now. strange new worlds is the only game in town right now..
but it is making real hard to not abandon for now
and come back to when my brain is half cooked from old age
i may not mind then..

@SgtSaint I understand your problem, I just chose to look at it in a different way. To me the overacting, lighting etc made it more humorous. They pumped that up to 120. So I drank it in and enjoyed Anson Mounts hilarious take on looking confused, they guys is a terrific actor. @piraterepublic Sorry to hear you on the wrong side. I could see the appeal.
But I feel I could enjoy either, with no favouritism to either. Don't know grimdark but have heard of the Warhammer game. There is other game in town if you don't mind re-runs, or you could simply search for what you like, you could be pleasantly surprised. I have seen many good full length Docs on youtube, along with full length movies. I must have a plugin that voids ads, I have yet to see a single ad.

anything worth seeing, i pretty much have seen it or walked away before it could finish.
i pretty much have not seen an ad that was not on the news hour. i have access to most streaming services and fly the black flag when home or away from the famous bay.

Yeah, that's the actual problem - Is not supposed to be an extreme parody of itself. This is like watching an *actual* "Wormhole Extreme", and it not being the parody show within Stargate SG1

Oh man, I loved wormhole extreme. Stargate SG1 knew how to make funny episodes. But then they had a great cast. I also enjoyed "Window of Opportunity" from Season 4, Episode 6. Its the groundhog day of stargate. Funny as well.

now i feel i need to rewatch that series for the 30000th time.
its been 10 years or so, i may have forgotten a episode by now.
