Ghosts now? No explanations? Is this Sci-Fi or Horror? Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worldss04e02 - Star Trek cross Event Horizon But they did it well. In many ways it was a throw back to the TOS episode where something drove everyone on the starbase mad, some froze to death etc.
I've said it before, I'll say it again - Strange New worlds is an antholgy show. Might as well be "Black Mirror" just with the same characters in each episode but no story arc, no connection, there's no *season* to it: Just the next 8 episodes.

While it's customary for Star Trek to explain things in the end, that's not always the case. Sometimes the answer just isn't that easy to find, and I think it's respectable that they left it at that. ▼Spoiler SgtSaint wrote:
Oh that's what it was! Yes, that's it. They handled it well. If the entire season is just them borrowing movies that already exist, but keep it at this quality, then I am perfectly happy with it. SgtSaint wrote:

Can you stop misspelling canon? The point of the whole "delusion" thing is that it is usually not just adiovisual hallucinations. That's just the parts we, the viewer, see. It's typically an effect that is directly acting on the part of the brain that should be noticing the inconsistencies. It's like a dream, or like taking a hallucinogenic substance. Can't reason yourself out of that, at least not without training (which is what Spock used here) or luck. They barely messed with the canon either. The DW thing was just implied, and may as well have been an actual joke by the character (who is old enough to have seen that show originally air). There's still plenty of civilization buried under the Sahara here on Earth, from only thousands rather than millions of years ago, and Mars has plenty of dust storms. Oh also, I retract my comment about the Voth last week. Apparently those belong a few million years later. 356 2026-07-30 22:48:59 (edited by piraterepublic 2026-07-30 23:27:32)Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worldssome_one wrote:

Thank you! The best and brightest of Star Fleet and Kirk is ▼Spoiler But to be fair, once you are mentally compromised you don't know you're compromised. Like when scuba divers get a bad air tank mix: there's like 20 seconds where you know you're not thinking right... then because you can't think rationally you are incapable of rationally thinking you're no longer rational. Heck I'm a rational person most of the time - and even without being compromised I've been in some knock-down drag-out arguments, yelling and screaming like the most insane person you've seen on the street. Based on nothing more than anger and my own body chemistry working against me. I can rationally say after the fact that I should have been better - but yet *in the moment* something as simple as my own hormones can ride roughshod over my rational brain. And I bet more than a few of us have been there. Amplify that by external forces playing with your brain. I mostly saw it all not as ghosts but the area of space. Some kind of electro-magnetic field or radiation that affected the neural pathways of the brain. And the longer you're subjected to it, the worse it becomes. Tow the Griffin out of that space and the ship is no longer a problem because it never was the ship that was the problem. In addition to section 12 taking the ship, there should have been warning buoys placed making that area a quarantine zone. Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worldspiraterepublic wrote:

Yes. Half a brain. That is the point: you quite literally do not have even half of a functional brain which you could use to know that, in such a state. That's why I brought up dreaming. Are you an always-lucid dreamer? You'd be in quite the minority if so. Most people simply accept what the dream is showing them and only question it after they wake up. And no, people are not fully responsible for their actions in an intoxicated state if they did not knowingly or willingly bring that state about. If someone spikes your food with a mix of hallucinogenic and paranoia-inducing drugs, you are not fully liable for whatever happens after. Only for some of it. Because that is a form of induced psychosis, which, you already brought it up, is different. The effect they were suffering from in the episode would have been similar. 359 2026-07-31 01:54:12 (edited by piraterepublic 2026-07-31 03:59:33)Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worldssome_one wrote:

Given how negatively charged ions can be created, I believe this is a lazy method to have us swallow whatever. Just throw something fancy sounding at us and we shall eat it up and like it. Also, you people take this show or your replies way to bloody seriously. Writing complete essays to get your point across? When I searched what causes negatively charged ions the following came up. ---======--- You can increase your exposure to negative ions by spending time near flowing water, walking barefoot on the earth, and using indoor ionizers. These practices help absorb or generate the beneficial ions that improve well-being. Waterfalls and Oceans: Visit beaches, rivers, or waterfalls where crashing water breaks water molecules and releases high levels of negative ions. Forests and Parks: Walk among trees and plants, which naturally emit negative ions through photosynthesis and environmental interaction. Again: These are different types of brain malfunction. One is when the part of your brain that interprets what your eyes are seeing is messing up. Easy to reason your way out of. That's what this is. The other one, the one you hate, is when the problem is in the part of the brain that does the actual reasoning. The part that tells you what the things you are seeing actually mean. If an incorrect idea gets inserted there, it doesn't even matter whether or not you are actually "seeing" things. You simply "know" they are there. Every thought that disagrees with that is simply discarded, because it has a lower priority than that "knowledge". How would you reason yourself out of a situation where your brain is not actually capable of reasoning? Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worldssome_one wrote:

The old Trek Writers used to pump out 24-26 episodes a year across 3 different shows, TNG, DS9 and Voyager that were all pretty damn decent, if not great. If this is a joke, who is it played on? I do not think 10 episodes are funny. And usually when they pull this 10 episode crap the last season is like 6-8 episodes only. I have read that a lot of actors do not like this format. They don't get paid as much and they are tied to the show for a specific time. Bring back the 20+ episodes and good writers. Re: Star Trek: Strange New WorldsMy only comment on S04E03 is 'Cr*p' note it's with a capital C, I am so disappointed I was hoping for more aliens and boldly going etc...but no we had to have a party wtf Re: Star Trek: Strange New WorldsTotally agree with the 10 episode... no filler... bring back 24 episode seasons THAT START ON TIME IN SEPTEMBER. It used to be "summer break" then the new season started in the fall for 24 episodes. For that you accept a couple budget saving episodes. But we're 30+ years ahead on technology so it should be a wash. I don't want to hear one more person talk about how the quality of the effects is better - SO IS THE TECH TO MAKE THEM. If the current tech is 15x slower then go back to the old ways. And it would be great if Strange New Worlds would actual explore some of those new worlds. 1st contact situations. Study some new pre-warp society. Ya know-Explore. Instead of hop from known world to known world to space station. I felt nothing for the exhaustion level of the crew because we saw none of what they were going through to get there - and that would have been the episodes worth watching.
