The last of what I consider the big three "Star" shows, with Star Trek and Star Wars.
From the first movie with James Spader to the last Episode of Universe, this franchise has never let me down.
Let's hope they can succeed where the other two failed.

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Have you heard about Scrubs (2026) and Malcolm in the Middle (2025)? smile

Both apparently with original cast members as well.

Really big problem this..

I have to find the time re-watch all the original episodes !!!  big_smile

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

I guess it's the nostalgia era for my age kicking in. The guys who really loved that stuff are now old enough to make the big decisions and they're reviving all the stuff they loved.

And yes, heard about Scrubs and MITM, Definitely gonna watch those as well.

MITM without Dewy? Sacrilege.

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

Does anyone think Hollywood is even capable of producing a good SciFi series refresh without injecting identity politics and destroying the legacy franchise?

I'm highly skeptical this will be any different to Dr Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, Terminator, LOTR, Willow, Marvel etc etc

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

I was a huge fan back in the day.  I look forward to finding out what setting/story they have in mind.  Will it be a continuation of SG1? Atlantis? Universe? Will it be light hearted or dark? Too many questions and few answers at this point.

So, 2027 at the earliest?  More like 2028?  Either seems like forever.

Yea, the other two "Star" shows have really gone off the rails IMO.  Bled to death.

For me, Universe was somewhat a let down, but not of the magnitude that Wars and Trek have.

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

It sounds like a Stargate reboot — or more of a revival, a continuation of the original — is now closer than ever to happening at Amazon, reportedly due to the exit of Jennifer Salke, who blocked its development and kept it from moving forward.

I posted this so all here know why this reboot is so long in coming.

Good riddance Jennifer.

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

So thrilled that this being done as a continuation.  Not a "re-imagining".  Not a "reboot".  But a proper continuation by the same people that brought the original shows.  Gives me hope it will be done correctly, keeping canon, keeping the same magic, keeping respectful.

I saw the announcement on Gateworld where they had the Zoom video conference and the creators seems genuinely excited - like little kids - like us - and the one saying

I'm so thrilled to have todays technology and no longer having to be the guy that say "no" because now we can do everything we ever hoped to do.

The only thing I don't like in this article is this:

Jennifer Salke’s boss, Mike Hopkins, the #2 at Amazon only behind Jeff Bezos, wanted new Stargate projects. It’s said he wanted to build a Stargate universe similar to the MCU.

I don't think I want "something similar to the MCU" from Stargate. Even though it is a continuation I think they should start small, with only one show. If that goes well you can expand, but I wouldn't go further as what we had back then.

Pretty sure they start with one show.  But if they do it right, I wouldn't mind at all for them to continue all three original series.

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

In a press release today, Amazon described its fresh show as a "new original series" rather than a direct continuation of anything that has come before, in order to tell "a bold new chapter" of the dormant sci-fi franchise.

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

Finally. Really looking forward to this. Also glad to know that the showrunner was a writer on the original batch of series, and that Wright and Mallozzi are still involved. Stuff like Origins is basically fanfiction, and rarely the good kind.

You will probably have to put up with some characters being gay there at some point. What really "destroys" franchises is new writing teams coming in and wanting to do their own thing without giving any care to how their predecessors worked or thought, and why it worked. Even if they reject all of it, they need to understand it. Also, a story needs to be interesting without being attached to what came before it before attaching it to it, otherwise it will only be, again, crappy fanfiction.

Example Star Trek: Deep Space Nine worked for many people because it actively rejected being the same as TNG, at the expense of not being very interesting at first, whereas TNG had some rough first two seasons while figuring out how to not be TOS. Strange New Worlds is at its worst when it tries to treat its preexisting lore as a joke (Vulkans usually being a good example). Discovery got a lot better when it got (temporal) distance from TOS, it just never got over its other core problems.

Very excited for this one.

Re: Stargate is greenlit!

Oh for... dammit, Amazon.

https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/starga … 236765061/

The new “Stargate” TV series has been axed at Amazon, Variety has learned exclusively.

The show was first announced with a series order in November 2025. It hailed from writer, executive producer, and showrunner Martin Gero, who was a writer on “Stargate SG-1” and “Stargate: Atlantis” early in his career.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase.

If they did not even have a pilot, how would they know who it would interest? Something else is going on here.

What is so bad about that?
Dedicated Fans can and do cause a show to become extremely popular.
Plus, if the show is any good at all, those dedicated fans also lead to the popularity to create new dedicated fans.

What this quote is telling me is Amazon execs have NO Faith in Gero.
BUT how many Amazon execs are 'dedicated fans'?

That last sentence pisses me off so much...it describes everything that is wrong with Hollywood.
If not for dedicated fanbases they would not be able to milk any existing franchise these days and couldn't make their remakes, reboots and whatnot...and from what is obvious, they desperately need those.

Dedicated fanbases are also what's keeping long-running shows like Law & Order SUV or NCIS alive.

If you don't do it for the fans, why do it at all? (I know the answer)

Amazon is still exploring new ways to further the franchise.

This also sounds very worrisome
