The Dutton Ranch is a Yellowstone spin-off centered on fan-favorite couple Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).<br />

The series continues the modern-day Western saga by following the next chapter in the Dutton-Wheeler story. Created by Taylor Sheridan, this marks the first sequel in the Yellowstone universe.

Watched s01e01+02 - Liked it.  It was a strong start with a couple great characters that just want to live their lives and finally have some peace. (but you know outside forces aren't inclined to let that happen)

Watched the first episode don't think I will bother with the second, nothing new in the plot seen it all before I won't be bothering with the second or future ones.

Re: Dutton Ranch

Personal thought:
Its an hour: Take an hour to watch the second since it was a 2 episode premier; it was kinda meant to be seen as a whole.  I found the second episode resonated with me.  Some good scenes of people doing the right thing because it was the right thing, not because it was good on a profit/loss sheet.  People just wanting to be left alone to live their lives.

As for "we've seen this all before".  Well... If I cut shows out of viewing line up for that criteria there'd be nothing left.  Couldn't watch a cop show, fire show, doctor show, gov't agency acronym show, family comedy, group of friends comedy - They've all been done since the dawn of television.

That's me.  One man's two-cents worth.  Y'all do y'all

Re: Dutton Ranch

I was a bit scared for this one since the beginning of Marshalls did not look too good, at least not up to Sheridan writing standards imho. But apparently it was just the budget because Dutton Ranch is great. Familiar writing and a little bit of lifestyle preaching (just the way I like from Sheridan). I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

Re: Dutton Ranch

I'm really liking it so far but after s01e04 I'm a tad confused by something they seem to be keeping vague.

Spoiler

What is the size of their hurd?
Beth went to Dallas to secure a deal with a high-end steak house, based in large part by the legendary genetics the Edwards Ranch was known for.
Then they just put down about 100 head and are acting like they'd totally hosed.

100 head wouldn't be enough to satisfy even 30 days of a delivery deal with that one steak house. They've got to have at least 500 head total.  Right? 30 days of steaks to them, and the rest of the beef in various forms to other buyers for ribs, roasts, ground and so on.

Is this a cast of loosing 20% that were all at deliverable age and weight?  So they can't make good on that contract right now?

I'm thinking there's at least 400 head at various earlier stages of growth.  So they've lost their breeding bull, $10k for its purchase, and all the financial investment in the lost 100 head.  And now have to survive financially long enough for the next 100 head to come to butchering maturity while at the same time come up with another breeding bull.  Plus the costs for decontamination.

Does that sound about right?
