A series about a mysteriously cursed New England island and its superstitious citizens, led by a mayor who refuses to believe their warnings.

Re: Widow's Bay
Two episodes in and I'm really enjoying it. A quirky recognizable cast of islanders lead by a mayor who serves as the straight man in this comedy about a foundering fishing village that's struggling financially. The mayor attempts to attract tourists to the charming remote town only to have the island "wake up". Maybe there really is something to the local superstitions regarding the odd deaths over the decades.

I also liked the first episodes, the right kind of humor.

I'm enjoying it, but to call it a comedy is wrong.

It definitely is drama-horror-comedy.

I don't agree. It's got some funny-ish moments, but nothing laugh out loud funny like I'd expect in a "comedy". Is it a black comedy? I think that's even stretching it. Drama and horror for sure, but comedy? Nah.

Not all comedies are the same, here comedy is non stop, if you can see it. Subtle, smart and funny. ▼Spoiler Stuff like the guy kicking suitcase into the room to not enter while bullshitting that all is fine etc. etc. Or the mayor sending away that women, because he thinks she is haunting him. There is not 5 min without comedy elements. Drama and horror here is in the second plane, even "horror" is basically a comedy like that murder clown or in the last episode death by snu snu

Well, I'm invested now. I guess Loftis missed the part about the mayor being the "protector". Let's see what he does when he realizes this. As for comedy, that's what his staff is for. Geez, those people. And Stephen Root is always worth watching.

Re: Widow's Bay
Neither the poster, the description or the trailer gives any indication of how funny this is. Only the comments here convinced me to give this a shot - thanks y'all I also agree that this is a comedy - it made me laugh more then many actual "30min comedies" did in the last few years.

▼Spoiler I assumed he was just some one more magical creature of the cursed island.

I had to conclude that, too, since they never showed them even trying

Re: Widow's Bay
This show just keeps on crackin' me up E08
▼Spoiler "He's alive" "Welcome back, bud" As if the overall, mask and knive wouldn't give any clue
But on a more serious note
▼Spoiler From the moment the killer got hit, a lot of plot holes opened up, hopefully those will still get explained: - Who hit the masked murderer with the truck, was it Wyck? And where was he afterwards? - He jumped out of the window, got hit by the truck and they waited for an ambulance to arrive...who called the ambulance, why wasn't the sheriff called and what is the book club doing? - sheriff and gas station dude...how stupid do you have to be? - and yes, why tf did nobody take off his mask and why did he go straight into the cremator with any authophsy or investigation...?

It has very funny moments in it that are at times better than many comedies. But I would not call it a comedy. The goal of the show is not to make people laugh - that is only a (very good) byproduct. This is a "mystery" and mysteries need to be solved. So imho the story has to be comprehensive and understandable.

Re: Widow's Bay
▼Spoiler He was hit by a car so that she could ask for the keys to run him over again, he was cremated to show hilarious continuous guarding with a shotgun - purely for comedy purposes. They cared so little about mystery that did not even bother to elaborate who the mysterious killer fella is and where he came from.
This basically is a higher quality/more sophisticated Scary Movie.
