Topic: Jury Duty (2023)

Jury Duty

The series chronicles the inner workings of an American jury trial through the eyes of one particular juror, Ronald Gladden. What Gladden doesn't know is that the entire case is fake, everyone except him is an actor, including James Marsden, and everything that happens - inside the courtroom and out - is carefully planned.

This is an absolute beautiful comedy.

It might feel a little bit slow and awkward at first, but it really grows on you.
The characters are all well written, well acted and overall just loveable.

The concept is basically a real life The Truman Show but in a (mostly) harmless environment. That being said you can see a bit of a risk in what they were doing, but they pulled it of perfectly.

And the last episode, damn - that one had me in (happy) tears. That ending was worth every second watching this show. It just felt wholesome.

Currently on Hiatus and not sure if with a concept like that you can actually make another Season, but I really hope it comes back at some point.

Spoiler

The only thing I could've wished for would've been interviews with all the crew as well, not just the cast - but the few bits we get to see behind the curtain were also very wholesome.

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Re: Jury Duty (2023)

Unfortunately, Season 2 of Jury Duty failed to recreate the magic of Season 1.

None of the characters felt really interesting to me.
The "situations" they created for him to react to were rather weak.

And also, the setting of a company retreat does not fit the concept of the show as well as the Jury did.
First of all, faking a whole company with products and everything is way to risky for him not to realize it's fake.
in a small company all people know each other to some degree...with the Jury, most characters didn't know each other at all which gave it a lot more situations to explore.
There are also too many characters - what made S1 work was the contained environment.

At times I even wondered if he wasn't actually in on it. Not that I believe that, but Season 1 never gave me that impression in the first place.

Overall I missed that "wholesome" feeling I got from Seson 1.

5/10 for Season 2.
