The adventure is over but life goes on for an elf mage just beginning to learn what living is all about. Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. But Frieren will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to understand what life means to the people around her? Decades after their victory, the funeral of one her friends confronts Frieren with her own near immortality. Frieren sets out to fulfill the last wishes of her comrades and finds herself beginning a new adventure...

I'm not normally an anime fan. One Punch Man is probably my favorite because it parodies a lot of anime. But I'm a fan of DnD, fantasy, magic and the like and this is actually really good. The characters are charming, and the whole thing is both whimsical and very deep. Plus as a fan of elves and the immortality aspect this really nails on the head what it would be like for one after a long DnD campaign ended and the heroes went on their ways.

Anyways, anime most certainly is not normally my thing, but this one definitely wasn't bad at all.

Re: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

One of my favorite animes right now.

Every single character is well written and loveable.
The story is great and told in a humorous way.
The use of flashbacks for the past journey is done perfectly.
Animation is classic but beautiful.

The use of german words (not names) as names is genius and gives the names more individuality.
Adding (simple) titles like "the Mage" or "the Warrior" for everyone is also a nice touch.

Can't think of a single thing that bugs me about this show smile

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Agreed.  Most episodes are slow (in the best way) and relaxing
Beautiful visuals and great story.

Fight scenes are not over the top and well done.

If you are just starting with Anime, this is a good one to kick off with.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Re: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Yeah, this one is nice, and I really don't usually enjoy anime shows. Wish they'd stuck with the formula of the first few episodes. A lot of very anime-specific tropes started seeping in after that. Still very good though, and the calm pace usually helps.

Unless you do speak the language, then it takes some getting used to. Bit confusing when two characters in the same scene are called "Strong" and "Strength" as well. Names from dead languages do have their advantages...

Pretty much summed up all I love about the show too, I'd add that it captures the Tolkein-esque feel of the journey pretty well. As a backpacker though... a 10 year long journey is insane. People hike the Appalachian Trail or the Transcontinental Trail  (Mexico to Canada) in 4-6 months or 6-8 months respectively. I'm no crazy backpacker, but I can do 30miles a day easy. 10 years is insane. Himmel and the original party must've really really sucked at navigation. Or traveled for like a week then stopped for months.

What other anime are you into? If this is your favorite then I'm inclined to listen to your opinion on others. I seriously am not into the genre at all.
