Does the forum profile use the same password as the main site user password?
You can't ask to start over just because you're losing the game.

Because the password that works to log me onto the site does not work when I enter it in the forum request for my password. For example, I want to update my email address in the forum profile and the password that I use to log on the site doesn't work in the forum

Yeah normally, the forum doesn't ask for a password, but changing the forum email address is the one place where this is needed.
I'll make it so changing the email address on the website changes it in the forums as well, but until that happens - let me know what you want it changed to and I'll do it for you.

If possible, I'd like to update my email address for everything on the site (if there is other places other than forum post subscription emails) to myupaya at gmail dot com 👍🤝

But the two big remaining questions are:
1. why doesn't my site-wide password work in the forum?
2. why don't I get any emails (to either the new or old email address) when someone replies to a forum post that I have subscribed to?

1. Because you're not supposed to use/need password in the forum at all (since it's kinda integrated with the website login)
2. You do. I just checked and you've been sent 3 mails from the forum in the last 20 days @ your yahoo account (and they were delivered).

Ha, you are correct about #2, I can also now confirm that I have been receiving those emails. This was, embarrassing to say, my user error. I had some bizarre filter active on my yahoo inbox. Now I see that I did receive all of those new post alert emails.
But, strangely, I didn't see one for your most recent reply that should have been received by my gmail account. And I did check my spam box just in case. Strange.
