Topic: Select genre to ignore

Hey santah,

It was mentioned by @littlemonkey during the implementation of the new feature "Select languages to ignore" that this would also be great for genres.

Just wondering if you've seen the comment and if this is something you are working on or could work on?

Thanks!

Deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Yes I've seen the comment, but not planning on doing it, for now.

If you are collecting votes for it, have mine. I use the charts etc to find new movies and shows, and if I could filter out certain genres that never interest me (e.g., reality, game shows) it would be much easier :-) And yes, should be a site-wide setting (I don't want really want to set it up for every visit again, already bothers me that I constantly have to select "exclude my own shows").

Thanks for considering!!!

It's an interesting idea, but it could get messy or cause dissatisfaction. Let's assume the genres are taken from the TVDB just like a series description and order. You love action, adventure, and anime, but not sci-fi or drama. Star Wars: The Clone Wars counts as all 5 per the TVDB. Does it show? Or does it get filtered out?

This is true also for the feature of filtering the languages. Of course, some responsibility lies upon yourself to know where to draw the line.

For example, I set my filter to only English and Japanese. Japanese for anime. With this I take the risk of missing out on some anime from China and Korea. Since (imho) very good anime from these countries are still rare, I accept that risk.
For that, I sometimes just delete all filters and browse leisurely through the database.

And besides, you don't have to use the feature if you are afraid of missing out on something.

I presonally would use it to just filter out anything reality based: Reality TV, Documentary, Game Show, Garden/Landscape, News, Variety, etc. which do not interest me at all.

Re: Select genre to ignore

Some warning could be added, including notice on search results that "x shows were filtered out by your settings", if deemed helpful. For language I'd say that unless all languages are filtered out, the show should show. But here, definitely filter out if any of the tags match. E.g., if I don't want to see reality shows, I don't care about comedy and reality; or drama and reality. It's still a reality show.
