Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

I started off worried about this show but they're doing a decent adaption of the books with many divergent paths that seem to work well enough as a series so I'm more than happy with the results.

I'm sorta wondering if they plan to stuff both parts of Second Foundation into this season as Preem Palver is on the cast list possibly merging both parts of the book into 10 episodes.

If so then maybe Season 4 is Foundation's Edge based? Which would mean Season 5 was Foundation and Earth. The problem there though is that the series was supposed to be seven series long which leaves two seasons without original novels to adapt (or butcher if you don't like it)

Yeah, there are two more novels but they're prequals....

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

So hyped! Man it looks good I was concerned with news of budget cuts and filming delays that season 3 would have issues, but it looks like those fears were unwarranted!

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

The anticipation is killing me... one more day to the new season!

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Really enjoyed 3x1! smile

Spoiler

The spaceship's 'sun deck' was a nice touch, standing there without a suit, basically in space, looking at the sun... smile

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Spoiler

Going by the episode titles of season 3 it looks like we're getting the first half of Second Foundation which would mean that Preem Palver would have to go into Stasis if they keep him in the second part of the book

Or like most things taken from book to screen, they change a crap load of stuff. Will see if you are right.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

The last episode of Foundation was a killer.

Before I was aware of the time I was looking at the end credits.

I re-watched it caught a few things I missed and must admit, that this so far was the best episode of season 3. If this continues, season 3 could very well be the best yet.

Right from the beginning of season 1. Foundation has improved immensely. Each episode and season getting better.

I seriously hope there is a season 4 and 5.

The Scenery, CGI, plot development and characters are truly outstanding.

Cannot wait for the 4th episode.

Hope you are all enjoying this show as much as I have.

Is it just me that thinks this show is meh?  I really don't get what all the gushy fuss is about.

2020.  Meh.

Taste is very subjective. Shame you cant see or like what we do.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Graybags is right about 3x3, it's a bottle episode, exposition, stuff we already know, blah blah blah...meh, then again, Graybags is very very British, so it might be a great episode, I dunno, I should re-watch it.  lolz.

FYI - A "bottle episode" in television is a lower-budget episode produced with limited sets, characters, and often taking place in one primary location, typically to save money.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

season 3 feels a bit fragmented

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

This show is kind of a slow burn show. If you like that in a story then this is definitely for you.

The issue really is on the payouts of a slow burn show, are the things we're being shown now are predictions of future events. I'm hoping they show the full 8 crisis which would mean 8 seasons 1 crisis per season. Right now I love Foundation, but if they payout down the line is unsatisfying then I may hate it. So far I've really enjoyed the season, this was definitely a bridge episode though.

218

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

I wouldn't say this show is a slow burn, it's more like trying to set fire to something very, very damp.

I honestly don't know why I stick with it, I just hate giving up on shows.

2020.  Meh.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

Well, it's a show about history being made, how it reduces entire people and their complex lives to one or two of the highlights, if that, and how not even the people who literally know what is going to happen don't really know what is actually going to happen.

Interesting image. Maybe part of your problem is that you have it backwards? Isn't it basically a show about people struggling to keep something damp while it is constantly trying to set itself on fire?

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

ehhh... I don't think it reduces anyone except those that have an inflated self of self and their impact on society.

PsycoHistory treats civiization like a gas cloud.  You don't try to predict the movements of a single molecule of methane in the breeze, but you can model and predict with a fair amount of accuracy how the entire cloud will move.  That doesn't reduce the importance of any particular molecule.  It just properly reframes the perspective make to a realistic view.

Its kinda like how first time astronauts say that being in orbit changes their perspective to realize how insignificant an individual is.  That doesn't reduce the person.  It does re-orient their perspective with a grander view of their place in the cosmos.

Totally and in my personal opinion has NO PLACE in modern streaming landscape when you only have 10 episodes to begin with.  I get it up until the 2010's or so, when most shows were broadcast season of 24 episodes.  But now - no - not when it takes 3 of these streaming seasons to make 1 broadcast season of content.

Re: Foundation [Drama, Sci-Fi]

3x4 - The Stress of Her Regard, was great, wow, a lot has changed with the Cleons, and they revealed a lot of interesting backstory.  Jane Espenson wrote this episode, I remember her from BSG, great writer.

@SgtSaint, regarding bottle episodes, I exaggerate, a better word to describe 3x3 would be an expensive exposition episode, and it's needed in serialized stories to create context and establish motives so future episodes make sense, it's just 3x3 was mostly exposition and little action, which was a bit meh, but it's a far cry from Cooperative Caligraphy, the ultimate bottle episode:

Sorry, was trying to keep it short there. Yes, exactly that. It's a show about how at any given point in time, there is so much going on that, when looking at the big picture, it is barely possible to see what any one person's effect on it actually is. About how the historical record will reduce most people it does mention by name to one or two of the things they ever did. It's best seen with the Cleons here, with offhanded remarks about "there was one who did <thing>"; we, as the viewer usually know what the context for it was, but it rarely ever matters to the speaker.

Basically, it's a show about how the big picture is made of an infinite amount of unique tiny dots.

3x5 was another solid episode!

Damn, wiping out that fleet along with the planet... Gaal has become quite ruthless!

I know right, so good!  This season's been great!  Every scene feels so expensive.

Anyone else notice how Synnøve Karlsen looks a lot like Martine McCutcheon?  I can't be the only one who's asked, who does she remind me of?
