Topic: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

A "Librarian" from the past, time traveled to the present and now finds himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle, which is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent.

Anyone watching this? Is it worth it?

I just saw it and I'm drawn to the fantasy elements, plus first two episode reviews don't suck.

It's on my list - how does it compare to The Librarians?

2020.  Meh.

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Episode 1 definitely had the same feeling to it as the original.
The pace felt a bit too fast, especially with the character introduction. But other than that I liked it.

The characters themselves are a bit too..."normal" though. The two part-time librarians sure are intelligent and maybe excel in their fields, but other than that they have no distinguishing features - not like Jakob, Ezekiel and Cassandra had anyways.
Charlie seems a bit more interesting with the hints about her past.
Vikram is OK and I actually wouldn't mind if he was more of a screw-up Librarian.

Jessica Green's voice sounds off to me, sounds way different than in The Outpost. I don't see no reason why she can't use her normal accent.

I really hope we will get some more guest appearances.

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

yeah, characters feel too vanilla. Also, they haven't spent much time setting up or explaining the library. This would work for viewers returning from the main show but new audiences would be left confused.

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

the show is a solid 3 out of 10. It is pretty much like the original show. Over all we see mostly failed attempts at humor, not so witty dialogues and very very poor story telling. It is a little like Sesame Street. You have to have a particular mindset to find it entertaining. A pity really, because it was such a nice idea for a fantasy show.

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Uff, just watched Episode 3...I think most of all it misses a certain spark - the characters aren't fascinated enough by what is happening. And they are shallow, no depth whatsoever.

It is like the writers are following a strict formula and the writing appears wooden. I miss the original cast.

I am getting bored with it, its not holding my attention I will give it one more episode before I bin it.

Tend to agree while thumbing thru the 1st episode it looked interesting so i got and binge watched the 1st, 5 episodes.. there feels like theres something just wrong here, like somethings just off cue maybe new writers ? hate to see this scrapped over a couple bad apples in the bunch the writers are definitely missing the mark  ...

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Episode 4 unfortunately made no improvements. I really want to like this show but they make it very very hard.

Apart from the already mentioned missing "spark" the show is also too disconnected from it's predecessor. No Library, no mentioning of the established Lore, no other Librarians or Guardians so far.

At least in the original show they had a reason for why the Library was gone...here they just have no lore-wise explanation why they can't show it.

From a quote on IMDB it is pretty clear that we won't get any more cameo's or guest appearances from the original crew anymore:

CW entertainment president Brad Schwartz told TVLine that they were "100%" trying to get at least one original Librarians cast member to at least put in a cameo and pass the proverbial baton -- and they ended up securing Christian Kane, who will reprise his role as Jacob Stone in a guest-starring capacity.

I can only imagine that the OGs must have gotten one or two scripts and decided "No, Thank You!"

Talking about connections...
...there is Elaine, which at no point so far has mentioned any of the other Immortals (Judson, Charlene & Jenkins) which she should have at least known. Especially since she doesn't use a different name and is probably the Elaine of Astolat.

Even if they don't get anyone of the original crew on the show, they could've at least established the character who became Stone's guardian instead of Charlie and bring him/her on as a liason to the Library. That would've given the viewers something to look forward to (news from the current day Librarians and what they are up to).

I think four Episodes in we should've seen at least a little bit of that or something similar.

This show has been a disappointment since the first episode.

Bad acting, horrible scripts. Its a shit show.

Leverage Redemption has gone the same way. And they both have Devlin on board.

They should never have continued either show. It just drags all the good work the first shows have accomplished.

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

I was a fan of the original series, good cast, good plots. This has neither. Can't see this being renewed, it's awful, hence my 1 star review.

17

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

OMG this show is kinda bad.  Fortunately Jessica Green (Charlie) running around in leather pants is so friggin hot I'm watching it anyway, lol.  If MTV was still showing Hair Metal band videos she would certainly be in several!

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

I was a fan the original series. This series however is lacking in the exciting story plots, direction and acting.

Warm blessings smile

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Yep, it's crap, it's as simple as that.

2020.  Meh.

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Decided to finish the season.

It did get a little better towards the end, enough so that I think with a little bit of reflection and listening to reviews and critics they could pull off a good season 2 - and I would give it a chance.

To my surprise however, Season 2 was already greenlit and, according to Instagram, has already finished fimling. So not sure how much incorporation there will be.

Wow.  When you think of the shows that get cancelled and yet this tripe is renewed.  There really is no God.

2020.  Meh.

Re: The Librarians: The Next Chapter

This was somewhat disappointingly mediocre, but far from bad, especially for a show that was originally developed for The CW. They should have simply marketed it as a spinoff rather than a sequel.

Looks like they got another original cast member to show up in season 2 and the show as a whole moved back to TNT, so they might be headed in a good direction. We will see.

In their defense, I cannot imagine it was very expensive to produce so far. That does help with the return on investment.

Anyone else notice that the first show was very similar to Warehouse 13, and that this one borrowed ideas from Sleepy Hollow? The Librarian movies were basically just a silly Indiana Jones thing. This franchise sure does like to recycle.

The first show was based off of three movies which were made before 2009.

The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004)
The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines (2006)
The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008)

So if anything, Warehouse 13 was the show who recycled the idea smile

But loved both shows almost the equally - Warehouse 13 a bit more since it was in the Eureka universe smile

Well yeah, I did mention the movies. Only saw most of the first one, but it was clearly, uh, inspired by Indiana Jones. Warehouse 13 wasn't really that; pretty sure the original pitch there was "remember those 'top men' mentioned at the end of that movie? What if we made a show about those?". So Librarians (which started just when that show ended) might just have been "oh hey, there's an idea how we can make an ensemble show out of our movie franchise".

Not complaining. Both shows were good in their very own ways. With this show... we'll see. Sleepy Hollow was not very good in the end, but there aren't too many similarities beyond some of the premise.

Whoops, sorry - that last sentence went by me smile

Never really saw the connection to Indiana Jones. If I think about Indi and tv show adaptions only Relic Hunter ever comes to mind.

But yeah, I see your point.
