Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

Andor 2x10,11,12 - No where near as good as season 1 and it should've been a movie, for sure.  It just wasn't set up well, like it would've been better if they started the season already in the thick of it on Ghorman then went straight into the rescue of Mon Mothma out of Coruscant, and then gave Cassian missions (put the relationship in the background) and then unpacked the backstory of Luthan.  Looking back I just remember all those pointless scenes and wasted screen time of like, Niya and the password Kafrene, stealing the tie fighter, fighting bandits in the jungle forever for no reason, the wedding, the wedding dance, everything on the farming planet, and so on.  No call back and no point.

The message I got was that Cassian developed a healthy skepticism of the rebels and no one trusts each others word, even those who've risked their lives and helped the cause, so you could only trust yourself.  At least now we know it was a Ghorman who coined the line, "Rebellions are built on Hope." which Cassian quotes in Rogue One which I re-watched, so good, and ya, this season should've been a movie....if they wrote more of a story.

@merc - I'm proud of you for derailing this thread with curates egg, I prefer using, mixed bag, but well done, it applies quite nicely to Andor Season 2.

@paisley1. You assessment of the various time wasting events is correct. all  disconnected. I have yet to watch the last 3 eps 10-12 so dont know about them, I felt no one loved making season 2 and had to just do it get it over and done with, with good riddance

I suggest you watch them. They tie the drawn out lengthy bits together nicely and are the best of all of the other 9 episodes.

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

I have never been a fan of Star Wars films they always seemed kids fare with all the mumbo jumbo about The Force at every turn,  but generally find all those mini tv series spin offs quite enjoyable

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

Season 2, Episodes 10 - 12.

These episodes - plus the better parts of 07 - 09 - were almost everything I wanted from this Season and the ending of Andor.
I really like the "Unsung Heroes" and "Behind the Scenes" themes Star Wars has with Rebels, Rogue One and Andor. And just like with Rebels, this Season brought us right were we knew where it was going to end - just simply with now having a lot more heroes in the Star Wars universe to look up to.

Of course there was the mandatory "One Year Later" skip which is my biggest complain about this Season. But as little as I liked the already wasted time of the first three episodes of the Season, I still want to know everything that happened inbetween the mini-trilogies. Since we probably will never get that is the only reason I would give this Season a 4/5 instead of 5/5.

I barely remembered Kleya from Season 1 but in this Season she became one of my favorite characters of the show.

Spoiler

The "One Year Later" format is just sad to me.
- We only got a rough image of why Luthen and the Rebel Alliance went separate ways. It couldn't have been his ways and methods - after all they are in contact with Saw Guerrera as well, at least to a degree. But with Luthen they cut off every form of communication?
- They made it look like Willmon and Luthen had a deeper relationship than Andor & Luthen - why, what happened between those two?
- I really really wanted to see a Cameo from Rebels with Mon Mothma arriving together with Phoenix Squadron. I had hope for Episode 10...
...and many more things we probably missed out on.

But the best example for how bad this format is, is the conversation between Vel and Andor in Episode 12. They drink to fallen comrades and friends...and they only mention the people and places we got to see on screen - as if nothing happened in between.

It wouldn't have been complete without Luthen's backstory. While it wasn't exactly impactful, it was still good to see. Really wished they would've shown at the end of the episode how Bix + Luthen made first contact with each other.

Shows that deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Company You Keep | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

Finished it! While I agree that the last 3 episodes were great, I don't think the first x season 2 episodes were bad. I enjoyed the slow burn, leading up to the crescendo towards the end of the season. Worked for me!

P.S.: I also enjoyed Luthen's backstory. Nicely done with us only hearing lots of what was happening, not seeing it.

A slow burn may be cool when you have the old 20+ episodes per season. But when you only get 12 or less, it is simply wasted time. And you have to make each episode count. In the old days they might have had 1 or two filler episodes, but with the seasons shrinking down to 12 or less. You have to keep your fans entertained.

Especially considering the cost of each episode.

And you have to consider this was a prequel, so we knew what was coming up, who would die and who would survive.

Prequels are a lot harder to make in an entertaining way. Considering what the viewer already knows.

Re: Andor [Drama, Action, Adventure, Thriller, Sci-Fi]

well now finished 10-12. Nice that the show had a decent ending and glad to see that White-Coated-Bitch ended up in the slammer. Though why Luthen didnt waste her when he had the chance in his shop I dont know. Good to see that they still use morse-code across the galaxy. Shame they had to bring in that terrible "The Force be with you" or whatever, at the end, spolit it for me. I am surprised they didnt manage to biring in a light sabre or two

I was happy that we got 'so many' episodes! 12 instead of just 6 or 8, like with other shows! smile It felt like they saved money on the early episodes, thus allowing for 12 episodes. I prefer this over just 6 episodes for the season (of a quality like the last 3 episodes).

Since so many years have passed since Rogue One, I only remembered that the main character survives. big_smile

I meant survive this series, I remembered that he was in the movie. I have zero recollection of what happened in the movie. Gonna rewatch it now.

Yeah, watched Rogue One now... It's good, but it felt like a bit of a let-down compared to Andor. cool

Have to agree with Lighton on this one. I also rewatched Rogue One after last EP of Andor and a lot of things have changed this time around.

Since Rogue One is a few years old, I spare me the spoilers:
- Andor killing Tivik now felt way off. Now if Tivik would've betrayed Andor ok, but he was only slowing down the escape - I don't think the Andor we now know would've killed him.

- One of the reasons to bring Jyn into the mix was her relationship with Saw Gerrera. But now we have Willmon as well, who is a good friend of Cassian and knows not only Saw but maybe even some of his people. Would've made sense to bring him along.

- Killing Galen Erso is probably the most Luthen-like order they could've given. Since the Rebellion didn't like his tactics this feels way off now.

- With the last few episodes it was clear how newcomers and even rulebreakers were treated on Yavin, with a lot of suspicion - rightfully so. Now compare those scenes with the Council from Andor to Rogue One, when Jyn tries to convince them to go to Scarif - in the show "Andor" no one would've believed or followed Jyn - it should've been Andor making the argument.

- Seeing the group of people who follows them to Scarif and not seeing Kleya or Vel there just feels off now.

Still a good movie and I also still think they did a good job tying it together, but there are a few loose ends.
