Where are we going?  Higher!!

I had a look at the original Pike and thats where the hair comes from as the original Star Trek is ancient and many looks are so dated now. SO just a continuation of that era.

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

BAHAHAHAHAAA! lol

@Merc, resist the quiff, and Lighton, I just knew you'd chime in on this, and I think you're right, it almost seems intentional at this point, like hair and makeup are reading our posts, and going up and up, just for merc. tongue

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Its funny, the Orville has toned down the comedy and Star Trek turned it up. Love it.

@lighton  you made me spew, thank god it was water and not pop. And now for our guest @Merc

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

I'm wondering if this season is going to be another 'anthology' season like the last.

  • One comedy
    One musical
    One horror
    One horrible
    One ruining the Klingon legacy
    One actual decent sci-fi

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

LOL! This looks like it will be funny.

We must have very different definitions of "funny".

2020.  Meh.

Wasn't sure if it was ever going to show up.

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

So glad it is finally coming back. Now if they could just figure out what they are going to do with The Orville

According to https://next-episode.net/the-orville  the 4th season has been green-lit but its been one heck of a long wait.

Out of all the science fiction tv series, I love Star Trek New Worlds and the Orville the best.

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Four episodes in and Season 3 has been hit and miss for me. I really did not enjoy that last episode with the Holodeck (Space Adventure Hour). That bored the hell out of me where I usually enjoy holodeck based episodes in the other series. I honestly just don't think the writers of SNW are up to the task.

Christina Chong's character isn't strong enough to carry the whole episode, she works better in a supporting role imo.

Also, I'm really sick and tired of them trying to force emotions onto Spock, he has another love interest now...let me guess, love triangle episode incoming....

While overall I've enjoyed the series up to now, it seems the more we get to know the crew, the less I like them individually, except Pike. He's not annoying me yet.

the "Cluedo" eps. I agree. The only good bit was the first and closing credits of the make-believe tv show

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

I agree. 2 out of the 4 shows were outside just being in space. I like the space stories, hence why I watch Star Trek. It's like they are trying to get in all the whacking stuff in because they have only 2 more seasons & the number of episodes is less. The surprise wasn't a surprise as I knew as soon as I saw them when they 1st showed up. I'm hoping the rest of the season will be better.

s03e05: finally a real Star Trek episode

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

305 felt like The Last Crusade, I literally said, "She chose wisely." at the end of the episode, lolz:

The quiff is not high enough for me but I am enjoying this season regardless. big_smile

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

@merc, great to hear your complaints, it's one of my favorite times of year when you comment on Star Trek, and I like the old lady having foreknowledge, she's added comedic relief the show needs, like SG1 vibes.

....lolz, entertaining, yes, original, no, because it was straight out of Stargate:SG1 and Indiana Jones and the last Crusade....

Spoiler

The set looks just like lower mainland BC where they filmed SG1, and the second I saw the ancient building, I said, it's gotta be a labyrinth and they'll probably get trapped in there, lolz, yep, and then the demons jailed in the building reminded me of the Goa'uld and they behave much the same, hell bent parasitic hosts, and then to get out of the labyrinth that's phasing (not a new idea) she had to step in faith just like the Last Crusade, gong! big_smile

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

eps 5 titled "The gobbledygook episode " or "How we discovered "The Pit" where Satan resides"

272

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Just caught up on Season 3. Quality seems consistent with Season 1 + 2.
If they only could manage without all the relationship-stuff this could be well above just being "ok".

Spock gets farther and farther away from the Legend...shouldn't it be the opposite? That he growth into the character we know and love?
Ethan Peck tries his best, but to me it looks like he always has to prevent himself from smiling.

And what is going on with Una...apart from sitting and giving commands she hasn't done anything at all in all 5 episodes?

Episodes 1, 4 and 5 were good with 2+3 just being "meh".

Spoiler

Episode 1...pretty decent sci-fi episode, but...
How they "defeated" the Gorn was way too easy.
They can't have it both ways, either the Gorn are a highly advanced predatory species or they are animals who regularly go into hibernation.
Even if you accept the Hibernation cycle, I don't think they should've been able to trick them so easily.

Episode 2...for better or worse it was a funny episode...
I get that Spock didn't have any contact with Nurse Chappel but what about everyone else on board?
Surely she would've told some of her friends that she has a new boyfriend, right? And maybe even Ltd. Singh...but no that would be inconvient for the plot...

Episode 3...did not like premise of the episode...
Did they even try to consult other doctors before throwing a hail mary with a plant from a zombie-planet?
It's not like they are in the Delta quadrant and have no other option than to depend on themselves...maybe there is an allied race with more advanced medical capabilites?
Overall the idea that Batel was treated on the ship for three months is also stupid.

Episode 4...pretty decent Star Trek Episode...
Whenever there is an episode about Holodeck, something must go wrong smile Of course that makes it predictable but I still liked it.
They could've addressed a little bit that it's weird to see people you know in a realistic simulation as completely diffent characters, but there was no reaction at all from Singh.
Uhura inside the simulation talking about the influence of a show like "The Final Frontier" on kids was well done - paying homage to the fans.
As much as I liked the episode, the end credits were my favorite part smile

Episode 5...An homage to Sci-Fi smile
Yep, the first scene we get from the planet looks straight out of SG1. Even the gear and boxes reminded me of it smile
The temple and the rooms reminded me in a sense of "Cube" which coincidentally also featured David Hewlett (Stargate Atlantis).
Gamble vs. Bartel or "Alien vs. Predator"
And yes, of course, Indi with only in a leap from the lions head shall he prove his worth
The problem is, Indi didn't really have the option of anyone safeguarding him - here they had plenty of people who could grab hold onto Chapel before she took that first step...

Before you shift back in phase, shouldn't you make sure no one stands in the same spot? Guess they got lucky...

poor old Nurse Chappel confirms the stereotype of blonds?.

Spoiler

And what is this Pikes girgfriend who had the infestation  going for the newbie medical  guy who got his eyes removed in eps 5

274

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Episode 6 The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail or "How to ruin an otherwise decent episode in the last 5 minutes"...what an awful conclusion.

Spoiler

Making them human descendants of a 200year old mission gone wrong opens up thousands of questions which should take the rest of the season to answer - but knowing this show, by the next epsiode all will be forgotten...meh.

And they couldn't safe anyone? Even without transporters they still have shuttles...but guess they actually would've had to write some of the backstory then...meh.
But no, they rather throw in a reminder of the current environmental crisis - no thanks, I can read the news myself...

I don't think any other episode managed to make it look like a starship crew consists of only 10 people more than this one.

Re: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

@WDM - As per your spoiler....

Spoiler

The message definitely felt preachy and the premise of going to space to look for a solution to environmental catastrophe is ridiculous, and it seemed as though the crew of this mission completely lost their humanity because of the cause of environmental protection, like a warning not to live in fear, hate, and anger, (like many people involved in causes) but to work with and trust your fellow man, because in the end, technology ended up saving humanity (engineers) proving this environmental mission was completely unnecessary, even though that wasn't the sentiment of the episode, it is what we can logically conclude, other than that, 306 was just a classic escape from danger episode which I really enjoyed.
