still too much faffing around. and her super powers are BORING. And the bollywood music/dancing scene no thanks - confused focus

The whole thing comes across as sooo desperate to reach out to Muslims and that Bollywood dance routine at the wedding was the final straw for me.  Even my wife commented, and she was the one who made us watch another couple of episodes after the first one.

The scenes with the djin (I want to say "fight" scenes but fight is too strong a word) were just so badly done.  Such a weak storyline and...

No, just no.

2020.  Meh.

Re: Ms. Marvel

Like always, I skipped forward through the dancing. If I wanted to watch people dance I'd go watch the tictacs.

Re: Ms. Marvel

Well, at least they are accurate (to include the jinn):

[...] Across the Middle Eastern and North African nations surveyed, belief in jinn ranges from 86% in Morocco to 55% in Iraq. [...]

https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/20 … practices/

When I first read about wide-spread Muslim jinn belief years ago, I couldn't believe it!

But then forty percent of U.S. adults ascribe to a strictly creationist view of human origins, believing that God created them in their present form within roughly the past 10,000 years.

Well they are in the Quran, so it'd be analogous to Christians believing in demons.

Re: Ms. Marvel

what I find so objectionable about this show  5 minutes are wasted on closing credits , fine if this was a Marvel film but not a tv show. Compare, Stargirl Season 2 last eps just 20 or so SECONDS.

Oh by the way the new speak is "British occupied India" rather than "British India" not as if India was ever ruled by the "Indians" but part of the Mughal empire for centuries, the British just replaced them, so USA must now be called "European Occupied America" All  you lot go home to Europe where you belong & leave America to the indigenous peoples! You have overstayed your welcome!!!!!

Re: Ms. Marvel

I am starting to enjoy this show. just forget it is supposed to be Marvel superheror. Oh eps 4 is Marvels superhero version of James Bond - subtitle it Kamala Bond, shaken not stirred. eps 4 very atmospheric.

Haha... I don't know if I can feel that atmosphere, maybe Spy Kids at best tongue however I do share the sentiment. I too am starting to enjoy this series and the key really is to forget who it is supposed to be... not my favorite part of MCUing a comic character but such is life  hmm

Re: Ms. Marvel

well eps 5 was short? I get the impression Marvel needs to have more confidence in the show than they are showing. Only one eps left, there should be atleast 3 more.

62

Re: Ms. Marvel

And here I was wondering what they were going to do to fill ep 6.

Re: Ms. Marvel

Episode 5 brought a lot into focus for this iteration of Kamala Kahn, over all I apricated what they did and am interested in seeing how season one ends... then I guess we're on to the next MCU thingy, She-Hulk... another MARVEL property I have some love for and starting the ever amazing Tatiana Maslany! So, fingers crossed cool

Re: Ms. Marvel

Ended up being ok, at least much better than moon knight.

Spoiler

Was watching the end thinking ok, so mutation. Was a lot of speculation this was how they were going to get the X-men in. At least they're just leaving the bands for her powers and not doing the comic book thing with switching to the negative zone.... doh!

I much prefered Moon Knight. I thought Moon Knight started off well, then got worse as it went on, until I didn't like the last few episodes at all.  With Ms Marvel, it started off crap and just got worse.

I'll see where they take her in The Marvels, but if it's anything like this tripe I'm out.

2020.  Meh.

Agree, of the two I prefer Moon Knight and of the six Disney+ MARVEL series I'd personally say it goes Loki, WandaVision, Moon Knight, Hawkeye, Falcon & Winter Solider then Ms Marvel...

The thing is, judging this series against programing made for a more adult audience is doing the series a disservice... I love the comics (as I have mentioned many times, I know) but even that is aimed a younger audience than say Iron Man and Thor books... heck even Peter Parker Spider-Man books.

And YES that ending was so saccharine I had to take some insulin in order to make it through to the end but, for what it was, it was okay.

I would say there are lots of better tween superhero live-action series but really what are the contenders?

Sure there are plenty of movies; Ben 10, Zoom, Shark Boy & Lava Girl, Sky High, the Witch Mountains to start... however save for this series and Stargirl what do we have; Naomi lol, The Thundermans, Henry Danger, there's always the many incarnations of the Power Rangers or perhaps if we broaden the definition we can include The Sarah Jane Adventures... or add a deep cut like the classic My Secret Identity (I watched a lot of retro tv as a kid wink)

Seriously though I can't recall many other series in this niche that really was all that much better, so as this kind of thing goes... it was okay.

I wouldn't say it's anywhere near as well done as the source material but that's a lot of adaptations. In some ways it's also so very different it may even cause some confuse with new readers who convert from the Disney+ series (which makes me wonder if at some point, say after Secret Wars, she may end up with more comic book like powers).

As for

Spoiler

the mutation thing... it was totally crazy they played the X-Men theme as Bruno talked about it but I really think that's just going to be a throwaway line some kind of red herring to keep the internet conspiracist engaged in MARVEL goings on and shenanigans until the next MCU thing... But I could be wrong.

That post credit ending was wild and it does have me intrigued tongue

Re: Ms. Marvel

hmm bored, so her super powers are stepping stones and mega sized fists

Spoiler

so has the rather plump asian teen been replaced by a skinny blond white girl? or is this what she becomes when she does supe  stuff?  what ever seems a cop put, and a smack in the face to the Asian ethos of the show? couldnt they have found a skinny bodacious asian girl for the transformation? seems rather strange , to have changed her race, plump little asian girls are NOT super heros

well Stargirl  returns early September so not long to wait for the real thing

Re: Ms. Marvel

@merc

Spoiler

That was Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) from the movies. Presumably they're doing some version of how the nega bands worked in the comics - switching the wearers' bodies between the negative zone and the regular world. All this stuff in the comics was with the dude Captain Marvel, a Kree, and Rick Jones, a really annoying character they just refuse to ever get rid of. If you want the whole story I'm sure there's a yoobs video explaining it.

Re: Ms. Marvel

In season 1 there are 6 episodes.
But after the 6th episode the show is canceled, this is not good. Many people watched this show, so I dont understand why Disney canceled it. They say about 775 000 people watched each episode in US households, and those numbers are American watchers only. BUT Disney+ does not only run in the US, but how many watched it it Austria, Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bahrain, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Oman, Palestine Territories, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, U.K., Vatican City, Yemen, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, across Latin America, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. So I dont understand why they only use US Hoseholds to use their viewer ratings of 775 000.
So how many people watched Ms. Marvel world wide. That's a problem with US companies, they only use US data, to cancel shows, orders or shopping. Then let Norway only use Norwegian sales for military excitement, so we can cancel orders from other countries like the US. Just saying this because of its wrong that countries only use their own countries numbers.

You may know she will next appear with the Eternals. I think the show was intended only as an intro. Some thing similar happened with Hawkeye - the introduction of the new one? where will she next turn up? These shows are not like Stargirl which are standalone shows?

71

Re: Ms. Marvel

Yeah this wasn't cancelled, it was just a limited series. It was always going to be 6 episodes independent of viewer numbers.

72

Re: Ms. Marvel

seems like she has reappeared with Capt Marvel in her own film "The Marvels" came out this year. The review I saw said it was rubbish.

Re: Ms. Marvel

I rewatched this show last night  and rather enjoyed it bar the blaming the partition of India on the British who were oppressors which was a big yawn. One of the better  short run shows. They certainly went to lots of trouble over the last train scene, I suppose cgi, very convincing.

The only real good thing about the show was the main character.

Kamala Khan had the potential to be the next Spiderman in terms of a young and naive character who needs to learn the reality of being a superhero.
Unfortunately every single storyline in that show didn't suit her character.

She was also the only good thing about "The Marvels".

Shows that deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Company You Keep | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier
