Topic: The Pitt

The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today's America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.

A medical drama the likes of https://next-episode.net/er with Noah Wyle in the format of https://next-episode.net/24 (in-real-time)? sign me up smile

First three episodes look great. It's of course a bit different than ER but not in a bad way.

You get a bit overwhelmed with all the characters they introduce right in the first episode, but they do give each and everyone a little bit of screen time for background knowledge smile

Re: The Pitt

Totally agree! Loving this show. Noah has aged well, but not an ER clone.
So many characters, but they do a good job introducing us to their backgrounds, quirks, and personality disorders LOL.

Spoiler

Is anybody else really annoyed by the one girl that bullies everybody but is clueless that it might not be the best way to make friends? Hopefully they will reveal something about her that doesn't want to make me slap some sense into her!

Question about Episode 8

Spoiler

Is the honor-walk a real thing in the US?
Also that E.R. doctors attend the funerals as he said?

Still not watching the show, but I was curious and found this at https://www.adelaide.edu.au/news/news87942.html :

(430 Australian doctors)

The survey found that 57% of the doctors surveyed had attended at least one funeral of a patient – but the number varied greatly depending on which medical specialisation they had pursued. For example: 71% of GPs had attended a patient's funeral; 67% of oncologists; 67% of psychiatrists; 63% of palliative medicine specialists; 52% of surgeons and 22% of intensive care specialists.

Interesting... I never had any desire for a doctor to attend my funeral.

With those types of doctors I think it does make sense to some degree since they spent a lot more time with their patients than E.R. doctors.

Re: The Pitt

I was scoffing that an overworked ER would just stop everything for an honor walk. Nice, but impractical.

Episode 10
Overall great episode.

Spoiler

I did not expect her to be right at all about the drug abuse.
Surprising but also it feels kinda cheap.

Damn! they did Frank Langdon dirty in episode 10. I really liked the guy sad

Re: The Pitt

Damn, Episode 12 - very well done.

Don't know how realistic this it, but it any case it "feels" realistic.

Spoiler

Usually with an episode like this you would see at least one person struggle or loose there cool.
I think it was a very good decision to have neither of those here.

My guess is on the guy who punched Dana. The kid would be too simple a story.

Re: The Pitt

I watched 2 episodes. I like Noah he is a good actor but this feels like another medical soap. I have a partner who is a big fan of the medical soaps and all the FBI's, NCIS's and the franchises that never have an end, a beginning or a middle just manufactured drama. Not my thing. I love a good story. A story by definition has a beginning ,middle and end. And they have a point.

When we started getting British shows on American TV it was refreshing.  Yes I know they have their soaps as well but they showed us how to do a movie in 8 episodes. As you may have surmised I like movies because they can surprise.

This show covers one shift of an ER crew in one Season. And it's also in real time.
So trust me, the season will have a definite ending smile

About the middle, I think this is one of the unique things about working in an ER, at least in this show. There is no "typical" lunch break but rather you drink and eat when you have a minute to spare. So it makes sense that there is no real middle here.

Re: The Pitt

i watched season one.
it is very good. for what it is.
quite left of center in its politics
which is not unexpected

only slightly realistic
and very biased so far in failing to show
the medical profession failing to take responsibility
for its mistakes, or even show how many mistakes
happen in a hospital at all levels.
(this show is pretty over the top hero worship)

there should be a warning about the graphic content.
and this is coming from some one who does not blink
at the blood and guts of war movies or slasher flicks.

( i say it is slightly realistic since they packed ten years of
worst case ER admittance in one shift .with a sprinkling of boring cases.
a ER is 45% old people being kept alive 40% stupid people 10% 2 tylenol 5% serious
medical unknown risking death)

i wait for season two to come out next month.

Re: The Pitt

Really addictive show but it's a US hospital ffs, they need to show at least 1 person settling their bill at reception and paying $3,000 for 2 tiny stupid jars of ointment or something.

17

Re: The Pitt

Huh. Is it just me or does Sepideh Moafi (as Dr Baran Al-Hashimi) resemble Jami Gertz an awful lot? Not the eyebrows.

18

Re: The Pitt

I'm suspicious of the motorcycle theme that seems to be running so far. Is it heavy-handed foreshadowing? Or is it a red herring?

Wow, you might be onto something there. Well spotted.

This show is still top notch. It must be a hell of a skill to keep the cameras moving like that without it jolting you out of the narratives.

The motorcycle part I didn't like:

Spoiler

Accident victim comes in with crushed head because no helmet.
Old lady scolds Robby for riding a motorcycle at his age.
He says "But I always wear a helmet"
Only he doesn't because eps1 he's riding to work and passed the ambulance in a no passing zone, with his helmet locked to the bike not on his head.

As a motorcycle rider this bugged the living sh*t out of me!
