Spoiler

This is what irks the living sh.t out of me.  A show with 20-something episode seasons, moves to a streaming platform.  Suddenly its a 6-10 episode season.
Then of course the producers still tout it as running 5 or 10 or whatever *seasons* which is misleading and misrepresentative.  A show that runs 4 years on 6 episodes is only 24 eps which is basically 1 **real** season.

Re: Law & Order: Organized Crime

I first noticed this pattern starting with Battlestar Galactica 2005.  Around season 3 they had to split to "part 1" and "part 2" because of the writer's strike.  Only people accepted it.  They sold the DVD's like that etc.  It proved people would go for it.

Then... "Defiance" on SyFi channel started doing it with over the air and only 13 eps per 3 seasons.  Well, that's only 39eps... so... a season and a half.  But they like to brag it was 3.

Now everyone is doing it.  10 eps for 5 seasons is now the streaming norm.  Streamers say its to hook new subscribers and once a show goes 5 years it doesn't bring *new* audience because those people don't feel they can catch up: Its too far along to start from s01e01

Sad.

Ok - One I was happy to go to a streamer: SEAL Team
Because now they could swear and show real combat, bloody body parts and all.  Hard to do a combat show with "Tip of the spear, tier 1 operators" and the harshest language is "oh shoot, darn, they blew off my leg"

To be fair, TV shows have come a long way, and with exploding budgets and quality, I can live with 10 episodes per season. When they do only 6 episodes though... sad

Eh... some.. yeah... others... well, not so much.

I'll agree about exploding budgets for things like SEAL Team or Lioness when they get filmed on foreign location, exotic motor pool of Humvees and Zodiac's boarding a submarine.

But Law & Order franchise?  Suits and offices and houses in today's times.  These shows aren't "The Expanse" with a massive post production budget.  They aren't even building sets: They use real structures 90% of the time, and the sets they do have were built and paid off years ago.

Basically if NCIS still runs a 22 episode season there is no reason Law & Order can't.  Maybe chop it from 22 to 18 if you want to say they have higher costs in New York or whatever.  But not 22 to 10.
