Topic: The Day of the Jackal

The Day of the Jackal is based on the Frederick Forsyth novel of the same name. Re-imagined into a contemporary political setting, it centers on a ruthless British assassin, known only as the "Jackal", and the intelligence officer tasked with capturing him.

First episode looks very promising.
Eddie Redmanye plays his role perfectly and the rest of the cast looks solid so far.
Directing is great, writing (dialogue) is ok.

Spoiler

That little smirk at the end of the episode - you know what's coming smile

Re: The Day of the Jackal

Interesting! smile

Is it really just "Drama, Thriller"? The trailer makes it look like it's also a good amount of action.

P.S.: I've updated the show info, for some reason it was about the 1973 TDotJ movie. cool

It started off with action, about the first 20 minutes, then it became pure "Drama, Thriller" - it looks like it's going to be a good mix inbetween.

Thanks for posting about this show! It is definitely one of my favorite new shows this fall.

Yes, 1x2 also was good. NO major issues. smile

Re: The Day of the Jackal

Five Episodes in and still liking it.

Not sure though what to think of Bianca...

Spoiler

She is the kind of character that I would usually like, hard and unforgiving.
But they manage to really draw on her worser character traits, making her almost completely unlikable.

But since the show is called "The Day of the Jackal" I don't feel bad rooting for the Assassin smile

Re: The Day of the Jackal

Love it so far! And yes, one of the few shows which make it easy to like the bad guy. And to be honest, do not care at least for the good guys.

Aaaaaaand.... for once... as a German by birth, finally a show where they managed to not gobble up the German. Some speakers have some - even heavy - accent, but all of them talking somewhat believable German.

Haha, yes, I always shudder when they use an American actor/ actress who had some European language in high school pretending to be from that country. Cringe! big_smile

Re: The Day of the Jackal

it is an awesome show. Would recomend.
The Jackal does exactly what you would expect the Jackal to do. I like that it has no innuendos and hidden agendas that are not part of the expected script.

Re: The Day of the Jackal

I just finished the show, and oh my god, I hope they make a second season. I LOVE THIS SHOW with all my heart!

Re: The Day of the Jackal

1x10, season finale. Pretty good.

What I didn't like: They didn't resolve the 1x9 ending at all!

Spoiler

And how he survived the hit on him also remained a secret... sad

But at least some good news:

Eddie Redmayne’s ‘The Day of the Jackal’ Renewed for Season 2:

Re: The Day of the Jackal

Indeed a great ending and perfect setup for Season 2.

Spoiler

The black hair at the end really looked weird smile

As little as I liked the character, I am still conflicted if Bianca should've really died or not. I know it's probably best for the story but also would've liked to see her coming back from near-death and giving another go at taking the Jackal in.

The best thing about the end of Episode 9 was that he did a test shot. I liked that a lot about the first episode and was worried when he didn't do it with the first guy he killed from the boat (maybe he did and they just didn't show it).

Regarding Bianca:

Yes, I had fully believed something ongoing like https://next-episode.net/killing-eve would happen here also! smile

Re: The Day of the Jackal

Pullman was unwatchable. Terrible casting. Seeing her character dispatched was a huge relief in the promise of a Season 2.

You know you've buggered up the casting when the biggest cheer of the season is when the GOODIE gets popped.

I fast forwarded past all her "family scenes". Excruciatingly shit and superflous.

Her ginormous pringles desk arse chasing after lethal assasin in the jungle then letting out a huge "FAAHHHHHK!" as if her wobble pudding butt was just about to run him down. Massive cringe.

Got to the point where I was questioning "why has this woman even decided she is a professional 'actor' at all? It's clearly not suited to her as a vocation..."

Not a fan of her then?  roll

Her acting capabilities were not the issue, her looks even less so.

The problem was that the character was written to be very unlikeable, why?, don't know.
Especially since her early demise was planned, the character had so much more potential.
If you know you don't have to look out for a possible Season 2 for this character, you should make the character extremely likeable, so fans of the show feel something when the character dies.

The moment of "Oh no!, she died" is so much more impactful than "thank god, she dead..."
If done well, this would've also put your feelings for the main character to a test. It's easy to like the bad guy if the good guy (girl) is an a$$hole.

PS: Didn't put any spoilers in since pdm kinda spilled the beans on that character (some people might not have watched it yet) smile
