Willis Wu, a background actor in a procedural cop show called Black & White goes through the motions of his on-screen job, waiting tables and dreaming about a whole world beyond Chinatown. When he inadvertently becomes a witness to a crime, Willis begins to unravel a criminal web in Chinatown, and in the process discovers what it feels like to be in the spotlight.

Just finished this one. While this show was "only" decent storywise and the premise does imho not properly describe what it is actually about, I think it deserves praise for what it was trying to be.
The closest comparisions would probably be The Truman Show and The Matrix.

It just had too many sidestorys that were not very interesting and some of the supporting characters had too little screen time. I could also see it being better in a serious setting.

That being said, the ending sets it up for a second season which I really hope will come, with some minor improvements would smile

Shows that deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Company You Keep | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Chloe Bennet, there you are! big_smile

Fun trailer, adding this to my list. smile

I wonder why Comedy isn't listed as a genre. Is the show (way?) less funny than the trailer?

Re: Interior Chinatown

I quite liked it, an interesting concept.

DRM "manages access" in the same way that Prison "manages freedom".

Tough question to answer. Comedy is definitely there, especially with the two stand-up comedians Jimmy Yang and Ronnie Chieng, but it is not one of it's core elements. Especially in the later episodes the Comedy is pushed into the background.

The biggest focus would be Drama, since that is the driving force behind the story. Crime is more like a tool used for storytelling rather than a genre for the show.
