Topic: Earth Abides

When a plague of unprecedented virulence sweeps the globe, the human race is all but wiped out. In the aftermath, as the great machine of civilization slowly and inexorably breaks down, only a few shattered survivors remain to struggle against the slide into barbarism ... or extinction.

Not sure about this one, predicable story but very slow. I will give it one more episode before deciding whether to continue with it.

Re: Earth Abides

I want it to be good! big_smile (Haven't had the time yet to check it out, but I like the premise.)

3

Re: Earth Abides

Enjoyed 1x1! smile No major complaints.

Spoiler

They didn't show him getting food on the road or how he was refilling his tank. That would have made it even more convincing for me.

Re: Earth Abides

I think it's going to be good but Ep 1 was a bit slow.

Re: Earth Abides

Episode 1 didn't impress me at all.
While storytelling and character development are OK, the story itself is not very good.

If this is supposed to be a "realistic" depiction of a "virulence sweeping the globe" than we all know from recent experiences that this is not how it works.
As for post-apocalyptic fantasy, I have seen better and more entertaining.

That being said, Alexander Ludwig does a good job here.

Shows that deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Company You Keep | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Please (use spoiler tags and) elaborate. smile What exactly felt off to you?

Don't know what you see here as a spoiler? hmm

Here the details:

Spoiler

No matter what kind of virus it is, three weeks and the world goes to hell? Not believable. This isn't even enough time for a virus to spread through the entirety of america.
And if it really happened that fast it should've looked a lot worse than what we have seen here.

Speaking of the the scene on the bridge, why did he freak out? - just walk across the bridge and get another car, plenty around...
He is a scientist, he could put a bit more thought into everything he does...a more than average intelligent person I assume....and then he goes looking for people....in Las Vegas?!
Cities are probably hot spots for dead people, not live people. If you hope that people have survived, go to remote places, military bases or harbours and look for ships / submarines who probably carry survivors....going into a city is just dumb.

You have valid arguments! I wasn't bothered because the less logical choices are still good entertainment. smile

That's easy to explain. His old car might not look like much, but it has two killer features: the "our favorite hits" CD that his first girlfriend burned for him was stuck in the radio, never to come out again, AND the car has a MiniDisc Changer installed in the trunk. (On it some ultra-rare audiobooks, each with a runtime of 38 minutes, and a great DJ mix.) Given that only about one in 500,000 cars still has a MD Changer (and because Spotify died along with society), he HAD TO KEEP that car! cool

And Vegas was probably only used so that a MGM+ show could show the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino... Free publicity and free set designs! big_smile

not watching after second episode, sloppy screenplay, simple characters, not waiting for more DEI bs either..

Re: Earth Abides

Not bothering with this any more after E2. Other shows have done it better in a more believable way.

Re: Earth Abides

I'm sure we've all kind of saw this series before and, on occasion it's been done rather well, say with the 1970's series Survivors... though the 2008 Survivors remake had its own unique flavor. And heck, I rather enjoyed Jeremiah.

In other words, I'm here for this premise! Annnnd so far, this series seems to have a different focus than such series as I've mentioned. I'm interested to see where this goes and hopefully even enjoy some different takes [fingers crossed].

Re: Earth Abides

Stopped watching (temporarily?) in the middle of 1x2. Massively disappointed.

15

Re: Earth Abides

Watched the trailer, so this is Walking Dead without the Walking Dead?

Man is all alone walking the planet
Man finds people
Man has a few scrapes
Man falls for black girl
Man finds an arch enemy
Both fight for leadership and power

Think I will pass unless I am convinced otherwise

Re: Earth Abides

I want to see how it develops and what's going to happen next. It has significantly time jumped/advanced a few times but it's ok.

Re: Earth Abides

Series is over. Not returning.

Re: Earth Abides

Earth Abides is neither canceled nor renewed for Season 2.

MGM+ has yet to decide on the future of Earth Abides, leaving fans in suspense about Season 2. As of now, there has been no official word from the production team regarding a renewal or cancellation. The fate of the second season hangs in the balance, largely influenced by the performance of the current episodes in terms of viewership. Nevertheless, the current season concludes the existing storyline, leaving little room for a continuation

I mean you'd think it's over having watched the final episode but maybe it's not necessarily.
