In the midst of an international crisis, a career diplomat lands in a high-profile job she's unsuited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future.

Re: The Diplomat

According to IMDb, people love it! Cast looks promising, but the trailer didn't resonate with me, so I'll probably skip this one. And the scene at 0:10 looked really fake to me, even before the explosion. Weird.

At least the trailer had the first armpit-smelling scene I ever saw in a trailer. big_smile

Re: The Diplomat

i added to watchlist just based on the cast but haven't started yet.

Re: The Diplomat

Yes the explosion looks very fake, it's the only let down tho.
Just two episodes in and I am enjoying it.

Re: The Diplomat

Rufus Sewell is great and Keri Russel is super in this intriguing insider look at foreign diplomacy in politics.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt17491088/

Do not get this series mixed up with another one of same title that stars Sophie Rundle and Laura Simmons. That one is written by Ben Richards. This one (all 8 episodes dropped) was created by Debora Cahn and very intelligently written. The graphics of that "explosion" are practically irrelevant. It's not an action or Sci-Fi production and the showing of that explosion really could/should have been omitted entirely. Special effects are in essence, immaterial to the story.
As far as optics go, if you got Keri Russel to wear just a wee bit more makeup in most of the scenes I'd have zero to "complain" about. big_smile
The ratings for this show are deservedly high just about everywhere. I gave it 9/10 on IMDb.

LOL. I couldn't figure out if I was gonna cringe or laugh when that nonsense started. Then, what he did immediately following the armpit sniff, confirmed I was going to laugh.  big_smile

Re: The Diplomat

I have just finished watching this series. I really enjoyed it. There are some funny bits like the armpit bit already mentioned. It has a bit of a 'West Wing' feel to it with all the politicking. One of the best series that I have watched in some time with some good story lines.

Re: The Diplomat

Yeah, really nice show. It was a fun ride to watch and they didn't really have slow episodes. Hopefully getting a season 2 of this.

Cast was really good. Usually they make everyone feel way too smart and heartless in these types of shows. These characters felt a little bit more plausible to me.

Also, it took me way too long to realize Foreign Secretary was Agreus from Carnival Row.

Re: The Diplomat

Liked the pilot. The armpit sniff seemed a bit superfluous given I could smell her hair through the screen the whole episode tongue

Re: The Diplomat

Wow! I almost skipped this. I am so glad I gave it a try. I binged the whole thing. It was fantastic!

Re: The Diplomat

Was into it but cried off after episode 2. All that rapid-fire geo-political jibber jabber just got me tuning out.

Keri Russell, no makeup, hair looks like shit, who cares, she's still gorgeous and she knows it.

Re: The Diplomat

Finished it. Really good, hope it gets a second season. Rapid-fire jibber jabber = I watched it at 1.7x rather than my baseline 2x, so more like normal human conversation speed big_smile

Yeah, same here.... Ep1 and Ep2 started off with a good scene setting but after that it went downhill quite fast. By Ep5 I am bored out and will probably skip the rest.

Re: The Diplomat

And happily it has been renewed for season 2.

Agreed.

Re: The Diplomat

"Keri Russell's tight ass and bed head", that's what they should call it, or, drink coffee, shot of scotch, shot of scotch, drink coffee.

Other than that, it's a good show, especially Hal.

While I enjoy seeing Keri Russel on screen... I really do not like her in this role. In my opinion, Hal is the only character in the whole show which is fun and interesting. And doesn't get enough screentime to keep me interested... Sad...

Re: The Diplomat

Great show!  Her often criticized earthiness (above) is gratifying as it identifies with her no BS character! Minor slumps in story and rhythm don't ruin a thing!  Love the banter and intrigue surrounding the cynical politics!  It would be great to give her husband more story!  Eager to watch the next season.

Excellent.

Re: The Diplomat

Just finished S2 and enjoyed it some good writing in places with some funny moments. It was good to see Allison Janney back in a political drama she certainly made her presence felt in the final episode. Hopefully there will be a S3.

Just checked S3 is already being filmed.
