Topic: Joan
Joan is inspired by the true story of notorious jewel thief, Joan Hannington.
Joan, a fiery and uncompromising woman in her twenties who is deeply scarred and vulnerable, is a devoted mother to her six-year-old daughter Kelly but is trapped in a disastrous marriage with a violent criminal named Gary. When Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the opportunity to create a new life for herself and her daughter.
Adopting new identities and making new acquaintances along the way, Joan becomes a masterful jewel thief - she embarks on a thrilling and highstakes journey that challenges her every limit while driven by her desire to care for her daughter and create a secure home for them both.
Good first episode.
I am always wary of shows based on a true story because oftentimes the creators think they have to beef them up to make them more interesting - this leads to doubt for me.
But the premise is already interesting on it's own, don't think they had to stray too much from the truth here. And so far it didn't feel like they did - "feel" being the operative word here because I don't have the slightest idea who the real Joan is/was.
Definitely gonna keep this one for now.
