Kaos is a darkly comedic and contemporary re-imagining of Greek mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld.

First episode was great. Can't wait to see where this is going.
The premise is awesome and so far it looks and feels very promising.

Jeff Goldblum is perfect for the role of Zeus in this setting. Overall good cast + characters so far.

Spoiler

The concept is so good that it's almost sad they probably will only focus on the greek pantheon (based on the name of the show).
I could've already seen each season focusing on "What if [name of pantheon] would've survived as the primary gods".
A bit similar as to what Miracle Workers did.

Shows that deserved more runtime:
Abbys | Dead Like Me | Devs | Firefly | Gangsta. | Jack of all Trades | Kevin (probably) saves the World | Lodge 49 | Mrs. Davis | NYC 22 | Powerless | Roadkill | Special Unit 2 | Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi | Stumptown | Surface | The Brave | The Company You Keep | The Crazy Ones | The Finder | The Middleman | Truth Seekers | Two Weeks to Live | Whiskey Cavalier

Re: Kaos

1x1 had a surprisingly hard time pulling me in (fully). But it was good enough to keep going with 1x2 in the near future. smile

Re: Kaos

It's the best thing on my current watchlist by far.

2020.  Meh.

Sh*t got so real with Episode 2, very good & very heavy stuff.
They definitely don't screw around with old-testament kinda behaviour.

Yes, 1x2 was better. smile

Couldn't agree more. Now Sad that I finished it.

Spoiler

Loved the fact that the Gods stealing souls was actually given away in the first episode by Cassandra in a throwaway comment during her ravings. As of course she was cursed so that her true prophecies would never be believed - or in this case even noticed LOL.

Re: Kaos

Found out about this show yesterday.
Watched it all.
Now I am sad. I want season 2.

Still savoring it smile Just watched Episode 3.

It was great, but I am thinking of refreshing some of my greek history & mythology knowledge before continuing.
In my opinion that's advantageous to really appreciate the meaning behind some of the character's and their behavior and decision-making.
Episodes 1+2 were history/mythology 101 but with 3 it gets deeper into the not-so-common-knowledge.

I read Stephen Fry's Greek mythology trilogy very recently, and that helped somewhat with Kaos.

2020.  Meh.

I saw him at the Edinburgh Festival back in 2019 doing his talks on those books which were Brilliant and helped here too. So far the only reference I found I missed was that in the first episode

Spoiler

Eurydice is run over by a Truck with "Serpent Solutions" on it - in the Myth she stepped on a Snake and was bitten and died. But to be fair the truck was on screen for a no time at all (took me several attempts to even manage to pause it there) so not surprised I missed it

Re: Kaos

Well. Not sure how this ended up getting made, but glad it did.

Notes:

  • It's nice to see an interpretation of those gods for once where their respective domains are really just their jobs/personalities, not the theme their abilities are based on. They're gods, not superheroes.

  • They had an interesting take on Hades. "Bored, slightly frustrated custodian" is not one I can recall seeing before. Works surprisingly well with his characterization.

  • Using Prometheus as a narrator like that is a pretty neat idea on how to use that particular character.

Spoiler
  • Having most of the olympians be absent was perfectly fine (or even for the best) for most of the story, but shouldn't more (all) of them have been there for that bottle talk?

  • Anyone else notice how the entire evil plot here was basically taken as-is from His Dark Materials but with greek gods instead of angels?

Re: Kaos

Really enjoyed this show, was done pretty well and i liked the way it was narrated. The storyline was great and they brought it all together at the end really well.

Spoiler

Did Zeus lose his powers because Caeneus brought the dead back to life?

Shame that the woke agenda has to always raise its head again and make things political.

Spoiler

They used the greek mythology where Poseidon turns her into a man in order to push their woke agenda.
The way that entire story line was purely there to plug in their agenda. To have her displayed without a tshirt just to show that she cut off her boobs was entirely pointless and was another attempt at indoctrinating young children/teens.

Well, the show is about Greek mythology ... so if not in this show, where else?

Do a show about staff in McDonalds or Disney or Congress or some other religious domain for Americans, don't destroy other culture's old pantheons.

Finished. Amazing show. One of the best shows of the year in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more on point one with the bottle talk.

Spoiler

It would've been OK if they hadn't specifically named most of the other children in EP02.

I disagree. I did not feel anything in the story was in any way forcefull or tried to tell me things that were woke.

Just fyi this is a british show, not american. Would you have watched it, if it were created and produced in greek and by a greek studio? Tbh don't think we would've gotten the same quality of television.

How exactly did they "destroy" it? I think, considering old pantheons, it was one of the better adaptions. On the level of American Gods even.

+1

Other cultures can depict my culture however they want, I don't have to get offended by that.

American money produced it, American publisher published it, draw is Jeff Goldblum who is Jewish/American. Key theme is an issue that is overwhelmingly American that fills a lot in American media and very little elsewhere in comparison. What you think of to make it "British" is just the filler around the fact that it's basically American.

I rest my case. Hollywood and its tentacles takes mythology and it shits allover it, every single case. From Disney/Marvel to something like this.

You have no respect for your forefathers, you don't use tradition as a framework to bind you to reason which even someone like Hannah Arendt would say is necessary. By freely allowing tradition to be destroyed in comedy, absurdity and for political purposes you will drift into 1984-style joy over an increase in chocolate rations.

I have lots of respect for my forefathers. (How can you not, seeing all that humanity has achieved? [I substract a bit of respect for everything that humanity has screwed up.])

But that doesn't mean I think we should continue to do everything the same way they did, just because it's tradition. And comedy can be a good way to question tradition.

So reduce artistic freedom to what?, documentaries and reality tv? - Because if you go down that rabbit hole, not much will be left.
Of course, respect has to be given to the origin of the stories adapted...but I didn't see anything in this show that looked "purposefully" disrespectfull or provoking.

Re: Kaos

Okay, then let's agree to disagree. cool

I finished the first season: loved the last 15 minutes or so, but can 'only' give the show a 7.5/10. Something was missing for me. Wouldn't mind another season, but won't be too sad if they don't renew it.
